From portraits of pets to wildlife paintings, learn techniques to help you create lifelike and expressive images of animals that go beyond traditional animal portraits. This course will cover some basics of animal anatomy and techniques for sketching animals from life, using background elements, light and color. Learn tips on photographing pets and livestock, choosing and working with reference photos, and composing a finished painting or drawing. Learn how to safely and legally operate a boat or personal watercraft on Connecticut waters. At the conclusion of the course, you will take a proctored examination, which you must pass in order to operate a boat on Connecticut waters. The exam meets the requirements of the National Association of Safe Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) and Connecticut state law. In nearly all cultures throughout history, masks have been worn for various reasons—as celebration, as disguise, as performance. 3 Diploma Options One is right for you! 1. The CT State Diploma—General Educational Development (GED):
This classroom-based course prepares students to pass the State of Connecticut-administered General Educational Development (GED) exam. Writing, math, science, social studies, and reading are covered in the curriculum. The course is designed to offer students, ages 17 or older, an alternative route to earn a Connecticut State High School Diploma. Students must be 17 or older to take the GED exam. Individuals, ages 17 or 18, must submit documentation that they have been withdrawn from school for at least six months prior to the exam, or that the class they entered ninth-grade with has graduated. Preparation and testing is available in English or Spanish. La preparación y la prueba de GED está disponibles en inglés o español. NOTICE: The GED test is changing! Beginning January 2014, a new GED test will be launched. All previous testing will no longer be valid. Call now to finish before December 2013.
2. Adult High School Credit Diploma:
This program offers students options for earning credits towards a high school diploma. In addition to granting credit for classroom courses and distance learning, students (17 and older) may be awarded credits for a variety of life experiences, such as military service and various vocational trainings. An EASTCONN High School Diploma is granted upon successful completion of the program.
3. National External Diploma Program (NEDP):
This program provides an alternative for adults who have gained skills through life experiences and demonstrated competency in a certain area. The NEDP is a portfolio assessment program that offers weekly one-on-one meetings with staff, but no classroom instruction. An EASTCONN High School Diploma is granted upon successful completion of the program. Math Skills Workshop (CTWorks East) EASTCONN’s Math Skills Workshop will help workers develop the math skills needed to enter training programs and/or pass employer entrance exams. OTHER ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAMS g Get with the BEAT
(Out-of-School Youth)
This high school completion/employment program for eligible out-of-school youth between the ages of 17 and 21, is funded by the Eastern Connecticut Workforce Investment Board. The program is designed to assist eligible outof-school youth who want to move from high school drop-out to high school graduate, to advance from unemployed to gainfully employed, and to enter post-secondary programs. A case manager will work with participants to help them overcome barriers that prevent them from being successful in school and in the workplace. g EASTCONN Transitions to

This program will help EASTCONN Adult Education students navigate the post-secondary maze and successfully enter college or training programs that will increase their earning potential. Students will also have the opportunity to prepare for college courses with computer skills and academic college readiness courses.
g Citizenship Classes This classroom-based program provides free preparation and instruction to foreign-born adults who wish to become American citizens. g Adult Basic Education Classes Adult Basic Education classes are offered for students to work individually with the classroom teacher on basic math and language skills. Instructional levels range from beginning literacy to pre-GED readiness. g Family Literacy EASTCONN partners with Head Start to provide a family literacy program. Windham parents and families with English-as-a-SecondLanguage (ESL) needs will benefit from this program. g Workplace Education This is a partnership between EASTCONN Adult Education and local employers to create curricula that will improve the English, reading, math and/or language skills of their employees. Customized programs can be created for specific employers. Train-the-trainer programs are also available. Call to find out how we can bring our programs to your place of employment. g Volunteer Tutoring Program Volunteer tutors work with adult learners on basic reading, writing, math or English-as-aSecond-Language (ESL) skills.

FUN CLASSES FOR KIDS • MIND & BODY FUN CLASSES FOR KIDS g Cartooning I
Cartooning I, invites its students to get funny, silly or scary as they get serious about creating their own cartoon characters. It’s a fun way to learn the design process. Creating new cartoon characters, which live in real space and have real emotions, is a blast. Cartooning is often the entry point for creative youngsters who later pursue careers in visual arts. MIND & BODY g Body Blast
A total body workout for those looking for strength -training, balance and cardiovascular workout. During the class you will do a 20-minute segment of hi-low aerobics and utilize various equipment including free weights,resistance bands, (resistaballs, and steps, if available at our location). The class finishes with cardio sculpt, balance work, cool down, 10-15 minutes of butts and guts and a 10-minute refreshing stretch. Psychic medium, Joanne Gerber returns to EASTCONN on Friday, April 26. Bring a group and enjoy a variety of finger appetizers and desserts at EASTCONN’s Conference Center in Hampton. The evening will begin with a social hour followed by Joanne’s presentation and conclude with an informal question-and-answer session as Joanne mingles with the audience. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and she will begin promptly at 7 p.m. Anyone arriving after 7 p.m. will not be allowed to enter so as to not disturb Mrs. Gerber’s spirit communication.

Music will include the theme from “Gone With the Wind,” “Moon River,” “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend,” and many other cinematic favorites. Bus will depart EASTCONN CLC in Willimantic at 3:45 p.m.; EASTCONN in Hampton at 4 p.m.; and EASTCONN NLC in Danielson at 4:15 p.m. Grab a bite to eat before the show or shop the local shops. The show starts at 8 p.m. The bus will reload after the show and return at approximately 11 p.m. Fee includes coach bus transportation to and from and 1st Balcony seating at the show.
