This program is intended for students who want to prepare for an exciting, challenging and rewarding career in healthcare. This program will train students to assist physicians by performing functions related to the clinical responsibilities of a medical office. Instruction includes among other things preparing patients for examination and treatment, routine laboratory procedures, diagnostic testing, technical aspects of phlebotomy and the cardiac life cycle. Students will review important topics including phlebotomy, pharmacology, the proper use and administration of medications, taking and documenting vital signs, cardiology including proper lead placements, a professional workplace behavior, ethics and the legal aspects of healthcare. This program includes 140 hours of classroom lecture and hands on labs and a clinical externship opportunity at a local healthcare provider. g Advanced Art (Grades 3-6) This class will explore Artists, Art Movements, and the elements of Design. We will use a variety of materials; painting, drawing and collage to further develop skills. You will leave with a better understanding in color theory, value, texture, form and shape. These techniques are taught while we look at various artists and the major movements in art. The final project will be a 10x10 inch piece created over the last 4 sessions. No experience necessary, however previous drawing classes or art are helpful. This program offers students options for earning credits towards a high school diploma. In addition to granting credit for classroom courses and distance learning, students (17 and older) may be awarded credits for a variety of life experiences, such as military service and various vocational trainings. An EASTCONN High School Diploma is granted upon successful completion of the program.
• GED (General Educational Development) The CT State Diploma
This classroom-based course prepares students to pass the State of Connecticut-administered General Educational Development (GED) exam. Writing, math, science, social studies, and reading are covered in the curriculum. The course is designed to offer students, ages 17 or older, an alternative route to earn a Connecticut State High School Diploma. Students must be 17 or older to take the GED exam. Individuals, ages 17 or 18, must submit documentation that they have been withdrawn from school for at least six months prior to the exam, or that the class they entered ninth-grade with has graduated. Program):
This program provides an alternative for adults who have gained skills through life experiences and demonstrated competency in a certain area. The NEDP is a portfolio assessment program that offers weekly one-on-one meetings with staff, but no classroom instruction. This classroom-based program provides free preparation and instruction to foreign-born adults who wish to become American Citizens.
g ESL (English-as-a-Second-Language) Instruction is designed for adults who have limited pro-
ficiency in the English language. Instructional emphasis is on listening and speaking, but reading and writing are also included. The classes are small to allow for active participation.
g Family Literacy
EASTCONN partners with Head Start to provide a family literacy program. Windham parents and families with English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) needs will benefit from this program.
g Adult Basic Education – Reading
Adult Basic Education classes are offered for students to work individually with the classroom teacher on basic language skills. Instructional levels range from beginning literacy to pre-GED readiness.
g Get with the BEAT (Out-of-School Youth)
This high school completion/employment program for eligible out-of-school youth between the ages of 17 and 21, is funded by the Eastern Connecticut Workforce Investment Board. The program is designed to assist eligible out-of-school youth who want to move from high school drop-out to high school graduate, to advance from unemployed to gainfully employed, and to enter post-secondary programs. A case manager will work with participants to help them overcome barriers that prevent them from being successful in school and in the workplace.

All you country lovers, come ride with us to see Blake Shelton, Easton Corbin and Jana Kramar at the Comcast Theatre in Hartford on Fri., Sept. 6, 2013. The Phantom of the Opera
Join us for a spectacular performance of The Phantom of the Opera on Sun., Dec. 1, 2013, at the Providence Performing Arts Center. This show has been hailed as “Stunning, intense and spectacular” by the Sunday Express, this production features a brilliant new design by Paul Brown, costumes by the much missed Maria Björnson, a new staging by Laurence Connor – director of the recent acclaimed 25th anniversary celebration at the Royal Albert Hall – and new choreography by Scott Ambler. The production is overseen by Matthew Bourne and Cameron Mackintosh. Bus will leave Willimantic at 3 p.m., Hampton at 3:15 p.m., and Danielson at 3:30 p.m. The bus will drop off at Federal Hill for dining prior to the show. The bus will reload at approximately 6 p.m. to get to the show for 6:30 p.m. Ticket price includes coach bus transportation to and from, and 1st Dress Balcony seating, at the show. Bus departs immediately after the show.
