Clinical Medical Assistant Program
g Pharmacy Technician Program This comprehensive 50-hour course will prepare students to enter the pharmacy field and take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s PTCB exam. Technicians work in hospitals, home infusion pharmacies, community pharmacies and other health care settings – working under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. Course content includes medical terminology specific to the pharmacy, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names. Students will learn dosage calculations, I.V. flow rates, drug compounding, dose conversions, dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control and billing and reimbursement. This program is intended for students who want to prepare for an exciting, challenging and rewarding career in healthcare. This program will train students to assist physicians by performing functions related to the clinical responsibilities of a medical office. Instruction includes among other things preparing patients for examination and treatment, routine laboratory procedures, diagnostic testing, technical aspects of phlebotomy and the cardiac life cycle. Students will review important topics including phlebotomy, pharmacology, the proper use and administration of medications, taking and documenting vital signs, cardiology including proper lead placements, a professional workplace behavior, ethics and the legal aspects of healthcare. This program includes 140 hours of classroom lecture and hands on labs and a clinical externship opportunity at a local healthcare provider. To be eligible for the clinical rotation, students must successfully complete the 140-hour program, submit to a thorough background check, drug screening and meet other requirements. Note: Upon successful completion of this program, students would be eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national examination. g Surgical Technician Program This comprehensive 50-hour Surgical Technician Program will cover the surgical technician’s role beginning from pre-op preparation, during the operative procedure and finish with post-operative room break down. This course covers the following key areas and topics: history of surgery; introduction to the operating room; the legal aspects of surgery and the surgical technician; policies and guidelines: introduction to human anatomy, surgical instruments, operating room equipment, operation, and maintenance; introduction to patient preparation; as well as other key concepts. g Histology Technician Program This comprehensive 96-hour Histology Technician Certification Program will introduce students to the professional requirements of a Histology Assistant. Histology Assistants typically work in hospitals, clinics, and laboratories assisting histologists and pathologists to prepare and analyze tissue specimens from patients in order to diagnose and treat diseases. This program will review human anatomy emphasizing the recognition, composition, and function of organ systems including skeletal, nervous, circulatory, endocrine and reproductive system tissues. Students will also review histotechniques such as tissue processing and an introduction to basic theories and practices of histotechnology including laboratory safety, fixation, routine staining and operation and maintenance of lab equipment. ARTS, CRAFTS & HOBBIES g Cyanotype Create beautiful prints using an alternative photographic method. Students can create images many different ways including contact printing with objects (such as sea shells, flowers, roots, etc.) or using digital negatives to produce more “true” photographic prints. g The Digital World, Computers & You This entry-level computer course will help those who are facing an increasingly digital world. Students will become comfortable with essential computer operating skills in addition to using the latest Windows operating system. Students will have an overview of programs within Microsoft Office. The fear and confusion associated with computers, will be a thing of the past! FUN CLASSES FOR KIDS g Cloth, Paper & the Smart Pencil (Grades 5-8) We will start out with the importance and classical reason/tradition for a drawing using a variety of materials with inspiration from master artists. We also look at patterns and duplication doing transfers and making collages to make your very own work of art. g Science Adventure Camp Science Adventure Camp is a science day camp led by certified teachers for students age 7 - 12. This is a one week, Monday through Friday, summer camp. This camp features hands-on activities that will allow each child to engage in exciting science concepts in water, chemical reactions, space, nature, and weather. With the understanding of the basics the course will review landscape, still life, portraiture, and photojournalism. Garden for Wildlife: Attract Butterflies and Songbirds to Your Yard
Master Gardener Pam will walk participants through the easy steps that will turn your yard or patio into a National Wildlife Federation Certified Habitat. She will help you identify the particular flowers and plants that will attract the most birds and butterflies to thrive in your own yard. Pam will review the role of the habitat movement in preserving “the web of life” and the value of the NWF Habitat Certification Program. Participants will also have the opportunity to complete the NWF certification application during class. g Nature Photography Made Easy! This course is designed to teach you how to develop your photographic eye in order to pursue and capture various themes in nature. This 3-hour hands-on fieldtrip is designed to teach you the basics on how to “see” your subjects, learn how to maximize your photographic tools and discipline yourself in order to become a better nature photographer. We will cover topics such as good light, scouting your site and best angles, proper techniques in the field, do’s and don’ts, tips and tricks, lens selection, filters, SLR camera techniques, composition, and much more.
