T

hailand is the largest food exporter in South East Asia, leading in many areas especially frozen shrimps and canned pineapples, and the country is also lauded for its world-class quality and food safety. With the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) that is set to be implemented in 2015, the country is in a strong position to benefit from closer ASEAN trading ties. Its economic growth and urbanisation have fuelled domestic food and drink consumption as manufacturers are investing significantly in production capacity and store expansion. This bolsters demand for more and higher value processing and packaging for the food and drink industries. ProPak Asia 2013 is the biggest edition of the show since its launch in Thailand in 1989. The show occupies over 40,000 sq m, filling all six halls at BITEC, and features over 1,800 participants from 41 countries who are present to showcase over 3,500 machines.

This year sees the launch of the Asia Drink Conference, a premium event for senior managers in the beverage manufacturing industry, and the debut of Spain at the show, joining 11 other international pavilions which include China, France, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, UK and the US. Exhibitors have been grouped into five dedicated zones—DrinkTech Asia, Lab & Test Asia, PharmaTech Asia, PlasTech Asia and PrintTech Asia—to create easy access for visitors. At the same time, two new feature areas have been introduced, Warehousing & Logistics and Packaging Materials, based on the demands from these growing markets. A series of leading industry conferences, seminars and workshops by relevant national agencies, industry organisations and exhibitors will be held concurrently with the show. These include the ‘Thai Star and Asia Star Packaging Award’ organised by the Department of Industrial

Promotion (DIP), ‘TPC & TISTR Conference’ by the Thailand Institute o f S ci en ti fi c a nd Tec hn ol og ic al Research (TISTR) and Thai Packaging Centre, ‘The 6th Plastics in Packaging Conference’ by Asian Plastics News ( A P N ) , ‘ P h a r m a Te c h S e m i n a r ’ by the Pharmaceutical Industry Association (Thailand), ‘Technology Promotion Association (ThailandJapan) Seminar’ by the Technology Promotion Association (ThailandJapan), and the ‘VDMA Conference’ by Verband Deutscher Maschinen-und Anlagenbau (VDMA), the German Engineering Federation. In addition, the Food Science and Technology Association of Thailand (FoSTAT) will be holding the ‘Food Innovation Asia Conference’, ‘Food Innovation Contest’ and ‘FoSTAT— Nestle Quiz Bowl’. ProPak Asia 2013 will be held from June 12-15, 2013, and will be opened from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm daily at Halls 101-106 of BITEC.
