After The Avengers movie Marvel has its work cut out to top the sheer amount of explosions and outrageous action in its next film. However Iron Man 3 may be well set to do this. With Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr) once again donning the iron suit supported by the likes of Guy Pierce and the giant that is Ben Kingsley as Iron Man’s nemesis The Mandarin, the cast proves to be fierce. It is set to be another Marvel epic, in which we see Tony Stark’s private world obliterated and in an effort to find who is responsible he faces question about his own legacy as Iron Man. The next instalment from Marvel will pave the way forward for our beloved superheroes, and with another Avengers film scheduled for 2015, it may be a long time before Iron Man starts to rust.
Film Monsters University
This year will see the prequel to the popular children’s film, Monsters Inc. However, I am sure there will be a large amount of reminiscing teenagers in the cinema to revisit the adventures of Sulley and Mike – at university! The first film was fantastic so I am sure this one is well worth checking out when it is released this summer.
Book Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire) With the TV adaptation now beginning its third series this fantasy book series has blown up in popularity over the last few years. Though a meaty read this series will definitely have you hooked from the off with violence, corruption and the unfolding saga of kingly politics. There are a lot of individuals who want to be King, but who will rule the kingdom in the end?
Book Warm Bodies
Warm Bodies is a fantastically written book which is based around a zombie named R and a human named Julie, struggling to make their relationship work despite the zombie apocalypse! It has some touching moments not normally found in a zombie story, it’s also quite funny in parts and is now a hugely successful film. This book is a great read, check it out!
TV Top Gear Having just watched the latest special (in which they seek to find the source of the Nile River) it is clear to see they are still on top form after so many years! While some may watch it for the cars I can say without hesitation I watch it for the three “buffoons” in case they really do end up killing themselves, if they try to top this latest special I really wouldn’t be surprised if they succeeded…

One of the best sit-coms around, How I Met Your Mother explores the pre-marital life of Ted Mosby, an architect, and his friends Marshall, Lily, Barney and Robin. This could be the spiritual successor to the classic sitcom Friends and certainty fills the void. Shown on E4 every day, it’s legend- wait for it -dary!
A new app that is taking the world by storm, 4 pics 1 word presents you with four related images and a selection of letters with which you have to create a word that connects them all. It is available for free on IOS and android devices so there is no excuse for not checking it out. However it is highly addictive – you have been warned!
Think Contra is a new online blog, centring on new artists, photographers, designers and illustrators. This blog explores contemporary urban culture and is a great thing to look at if you want to go into creative industries, check it out! You can also follow Think Contra on Twitter, @thinkcontra.
Game PS4 What else could there be to recommend, not just a game but a whole next gen console to boot. The PS3 has been a fantastic console since its release 7 years ago but its now time to welcome the PS4, a console that will bring incredible power, faster downloads, huge social connectivity and exciting new games to your living room. A few that have been announced include Killzone, Destiny, Assassins Creed 4 and Watchdogs though expect all the new titles at E3 to be jumping on the PS4 bandwagon too, and for all the right reasons. Microsoft better have something good up their sleeves to try and compete with this new console!

Music Les Miserables With the recent success of the film adaptation of Les Miserables, the soundtrack has also seen success, reaching number one in both the U.S and U.K album charts. Filled with the much loved hits from the film like I Dreamed a Dream and sung remarkably well by the actors in the film this is definitely an essential buy if you are a music lover.
Music Mumford & Sons This ukulele-strumming fourpiece band from West London has taken the world by storm with their folk-rock style. Taking home the Best British Band award at this year’s Brit awards and with two Grammys under their belt, they are worth checking out!

Get a job! One
of the key issues that young people say is important to them is their future; more specifically getting a job and the skills that they need to get their dream job. So one member of the East Hampshire Youth Council went to interview a local business person to ask them what sort of skills young people need to be more employable. The interview was with Howard Clarke of Morgan Innovation & technology Ltd, Petersfield. The company research, develop and sell medical equipment and have being doing so since 1987.
What are some of the best skills a young employee can have and why? Schools are not teaching interview skills but they are important. Skills such as the handshake and how to give a good first impression are vital. It is important to have a wide range of skills which can be gained through out-of-school activities. These skills and activities need to be shown to an employer which is why being able to write a good CV is important.
Is it important to have a second language on your CV, if so which language would be most useful and how might you use them? A language can be quite useful. Some of the best ones would be Chinese, Spanish, Japanese, French, and German. The most useful probably being Spanish and Chinese. You would use them when trading with foreign countries and expanding your business.
What extra circular clubs or activates would make a young person a more employable. Any activities can be useful because it shows you are trying to be a more rounded person plus this adds to what’s on your CV. It also makes you stand out from other people who don’t do these activities. Do you support further study? All further study is useful because work has changed and you now have to keep on learning and evolving throughout your working life. Jobs change, so it is important to have new skills that can be used in different job roles.

How much emphasis do you put on exam results compared to how a person comes across in an interview? We don’t put too much emphasis on exam results because some people may be better at exams than others. What we are looking for is an overall rounded person not just someone who is good at exams. Would you interview someone if they did not meet the minimum requirements? If so what might make you take them to the interview stage? We look at the person more compared to just results and qualifications but they do play a role in it. Do you value GCSEs more than practical courses? The practical courses are about as important as the GCSEs. However, it does depend on the job you want as to which qualifications you need.

As an employer are you looking for an applicant who has studied a broad range of subjects or someone who specialises in your area? A broad range of subjects is important because you need to do a wide range of activities and jobs. It is important to have lots of different skills, which come from studying different subjects. In your assessment of an applicant do you value membership of voluntary organisations such as East Hants Youth Council, young sports leader and CAT mark? Yes it is important because it shows you are willing to go the extra mile, which is what you want from an employee.
How important is the physical presentation of the applicant at the interview? It is quite important because they will meet customers so they must be presentable and approachable. There are exceptions but depending on what job you do you must wear the appropriate clothes.

Let’s talk about politics.
Now don’t flinch away or turn this page as you are doing now, bear with me and read on because there is a method to my madness here. Let’s start at the beginning. 2010, a general election that left us all a bit worse for wear. For the first time in a long time we had a conservative as Prime Minister (David Cameron) and despite having to make a deal to form a coalition with the Liberal Democrats this current government has managed to again remind us as to why voting is important, more so than ever, for young people.
What did this government have in store for us? Tuition fees Scrapping EMA (education maintenance allowance) Reforming GCSE’s and A levels Failing young people in the job market
It all seems pretty dire when you look at how young people have been affected as a whole. However, it’s not all bad news. Let’s consider the recent discussions on lowering the voting age to 16. Perhaps surprisingly, MPs from across the country have agreed to consider the possibility of introducing a bill which would allow the majority of you to vote when you turn 16, as opposed to 18. This doesn’t mean that you will HAVE to vote, there is of course the option of opting out, although we wouldn’t
recommend it. In the UK there has been a recent increase in ‘voter apathy’ which, put simply, means that the people who can vote just... don’t. They may not know enough about the political parties to determine who will benefit them and the country most, or perhaps they ‘just can’t be bothered’. This was one of the causes of the need for a coalition government - not enough people voted to be able to produce a majority for one party or the other. We don’t know for sure that a higher voting turnout would have given us a different government to what we have today, but it would tell us that more people are interested in politics. This is where you come in. As the next generation, there are a significant amount of changes

heading your way and you’re caught up in one of the most interesting times in the UK’s political history. There’s so much you can do - join your local youth council, or take a look at the Youth Parliament, and find out how you can make a difference. When your time comes to vote, don’t pass it up. Every vote counts and could be the difference between one candidate and another winning. Your contribution could help hundreds of thousands of young people across the UK to get involved in current affairs, such as the topics of equal marriage and the EU debate. Soon you’re going to want to make your voice be heard - make that day today.
However when it comes down to it, I cannot make you care about what happens in politics, I can do my best to show you the effects of what “not caring” is having for youth everywhere but it is you who has to tick the box on the voting slip. Just how much more can you take of out of touch politicians taking away provisions put in place to help you succeed? Because that is what is happening. It is time we had our voice heard to remind the politicians in Westminster it is not their god given right to rule the country but rather one they are given by us.

Shipwrights Way walk My name is Katie and I am a member of the East Hampshire Youth Council. On Sunday 24 March 9 members of EHYC, EHDC staff, parents and two dogs (Ruby and Rory) walked from Liss to Liphook to celebrate the opening of a section of the Shipwrights Way walk. It was freezing, trying to snow and very muddy but we had brilliant fun. Towards the end of the walk we stopped at the Deer’s Hut, where they very kindly gave us (and all the other walkers) free warm drinks and let us use their toilets. It took us 3 ½ hours and we were very muddy and tired when we got home but we felt really good. We were also being sponsored to do the walk to help raise money for the Buriton Village to Village charity, helping to raise money for improved water supplies and sanitation for community of Dominase in Ghana. Once we have collected all our sponsorship money we will post how much we raised on our Twitter and Facebook. As members of the EHYC we do lots of fun activities like the walk and we cant wait until the next one!
