ANDY HESSENTHALER GOOD AFTERNOON AND WELCOME TO THE SILVERLAKE FOR OUR FIRST HOME GAME OF THE SEASON AGAINST SOLIHULL MOORS

F

irst and foremost I would like to welcome Tim Flowers and everybody who has travelled down South from Solihull Moors – I hope everybody had a safe and pleasant journey down South. I also hope that everybody has enjoyed the fantastic weather we have had so far and that we can provide you with a spectacular game of football. This summer Eastleigh has undergone a lot of changes on the pitch and the boardroom. Most notably we waved goodbye to former Chairman Stewart Donald who left to become the new chairman of Sunderland. We also bidded a fond farewell to the likes of Gavin Hoyte, Ayo Obileye, Harvey Read and Sam Togwell. We wish them all well in their future endeavours. While we say goodbye to some, we must also welcome Joey Jones, Oscar Gobern, Josh Hare, Alex Wynter and George Dowling to the Eastleigh Town family. The boys from last season have been fantastic and have welcomed the new signings into the squad and made them feel at home. One of my main intentions of the preseason was to bring down the age of the squad and add some more young players to the team. I feel that this has been reflected in our transfer business this summer and I also believe that we now have the perfect balance between youth and experience, which is vital. In addition to the new signings, we also have some promising talents coming through our own development system. These young

eastleighfc.com

lads are training with us on a daily basis and I feel that many of them could potentially make a big contribution to our season. Some players will be loaned out, but we will be closely monitoring their progress throughout the season. Everyone reported back for pre-season a lot earlier than usual, due to the league fixtures commencing a lot sooner than that of last season. Pre-season preparations are extremely important as it is the time to raise fitness and performance levels. The boys have worked themselves into the ground in order to be ready for today. I could not have asked for any more. I feel that we are physically and mentally prepared for the challenges that lie ahead this season. We are expecting a very tough contest against Solihull Moors this afternoon. Like us, they have also undergone many changes this season with Tim Flowers taking over the reigns as manager. They have also had a very good pre-season but I am very confident with the home advantage we can start the season well and get the allimportant three-points. Finally I want to thank everybody for their renewed and passionate support this season. I hope to build on last year and bring joy to everybody in the Eastleigh family. For the first time this season enjoy the game.

WE BELIEVE WE CAN GET INTO THE TOP 7. WITH THE NEW ADDITIONS WE HAVE IN THE SQUAD, I FEEL WE CAN HAVE A REALLY GOOD GO FOR THE NEW SEASON 5

MARK JEWELL HERE WE GO AGAIN EVERYONE, I CAN’T BELIEVE ITS THAT TIME ALREADY. SO, THE TIME FOR TALKING ABOUT IT AND PLANNING HAS NOW ENDING AND IT IS TIME TO DELIVER.

W

elcome back all you Spitfires, thank you all for your continued support and the faith you have invested in the club by purchasing your Executive Club memberships, your season tickets and to those more casual attendees, who simply turn up and pay as you go. Without you there is no Club to worry about and that fact is at the forefront of our minds and always will be.

new board. With Kenny, Jo, Tom and myself having a combined controlling interest in the business, which has now been agreed and sanctioned by the footballing governing bodies. This process was slightly elongated and complex as Stewart was moving to another football club and certain financial questions needed detailed answers. Anyway, that was a matter for the Summer and now we move forward and look to concentrate on the new season and all that has to offer.

This is the first time I have officially written the programme notes in my capacity as Club Chairman, it is a real honour and a privilege to do so and I would like to thank all of you who have gone out of your way to wish me well in this new role, as well as those who were very supportive towards me during my period of ill health back at the end of last season. It really makes a difference, when you know that people do care about you and it makes you focus on the fact that Eastleigh Football Club is huge family extension and has numerous decent and caring people amongst its number.

I cannot move on though without taking the chance to acknowledge the fantastic legacy that Stewart and his family have left this club with. The time, effort and shear hard work that Stewart invested in this Club and its Community (not to mention the finance!) has elevated this” little club down the Lane” to one that is known across the Country as a serious Football Club that exists at the highest level possible out side of the English Football League. Also, people are aware of our ambitions to join the dizzy heights of footballs elite. That ambition has not changed due to Stewarts departure and remains the primary focus of everyone within the business. We also have a responsibility to do our upmost to uphold the principles and vision of “making football affordable” and to engaging as much as possible with the wider Eastleigh Community. Stewart’s view was

The events of the summer have been well documented in the local and indeed national press with Stewart Donald departing the Silverlake for the Stadium of Light. That event created an opportunity for Kenny Amor (CEO), Tom Coffey (Operations Director) and Joanne Sprigg (Financial Director) to join me and the existing Directors on the

that a Towns football club should be its hub and the whole board, both new and existing will keep that vision close to its core.

It doesn’t matter who you follow, this time of year football fans always ask the question, is it our year, this year? All I know is that if we all come together and create an environment of positive energy, combined with a can do attitude, forward looking belief then we have all the ingredience within these Ten Acres, on the pitch, within the walls of the buildings and the support base (ever growing) to make anything possible!

There’s only one Stewart Donald! Thank you for everything and good luck at Sunderland AFC. So, today I would like to welcome the Directors, Management, players and supporters of Solihull Moors. I hope you have a great experience with us today. On the field Andy Hessenthaler and his management team have brought in five new players as he starts to freshen up the squad. I have been impressed with the players that have joined us, they have invigorated the whole squad with their energy and ambition. All the lads have worked very hard in extreme conditions, pre-season, which has been very encouraging. I thank them for their attitude thus far and believe we have a great platform to build on.

Enjoy the game, enjoy the season. Get behind the boys and get behind your club!

Mark

The whole club is currently a very positive place and that extends from the players and football management through the entire staff. I truly hope that this positivity will continue to spread through the fan base as we strive to improve in all areas of the business, both on and off the field.

A

youthful Eastleigh side ended pre-season with a defeat after losing 2-0 away to Winchester City.

Andy Hessenthaler sent a mixture of first and second year pros along with some experienced pro’s to The Simply Health Stadium. Both teams struggled to deal with the swirling wind, however it was the home team who managed to break the dead lock first from the penalty spot. With 35-minutes on the clock the home team doubled their advantage after a long ball over the top caught out The Spitfires defence. The Spitfires enjoyed more of the ball in the second half but were unable to break down a resilient Winchester Defence.
