ANDY HESSENTHALER GOOD EVENING ALL AND WELCOME BACK TO THE SILVERLAKE STADIUM, FOR THE VISIT OF BROMLEY IN TONIGHT’S NATIONAL LEAGUE FIXTURE.

I

would like to begin by welcoming the fans and everybody associated with Bromley to The Silverlake Stadium. I hope you have all had a pleasant journey and that the boys on the pitch will give everybody an entertaining and competitive contest. It was great to get our first win of the season at the weekend. Barnet, as expected, gave us a very good game and even threatened an equaliser in the closing stages of the match, but I think our performance and attitude warranted the 3 points. We are going into our second home match on the back of two defeats and one victory but I feel our performances have been good enough to get more than that. We created lots of chances against Solihull Moors and Sutton’s winning goal came from a very dubious penalty. With a bit more luck we could have gone into this match unbeaten or even with a 100% win record. However, this is football and it usually has a way of levelling itself out.

eastleighfc.com

Bromley are a very good side and they had a fantastic season last year. There are a lot of quality players in their side so we will have to be at our best. I played with Bromley manager Neil Smith when we were both at Gillingham and he is a fantastic manager and a very good friend of mine. Win, lose or draw we will probably have a drink with each other after the match. I would like to close my message by thanking the supporters who have been fantastic so far. You are our 12th man on the pitch and we will always be grateful for your passion, dedication and support. Enjoy the game and I hope that we can get the victory. All the best.

Hessy

MARK JEWELL GOOD EVENING ALL AND WELCOME BACK TO THE SILVERLAKE STADIUM, FOR THE VISIT OF BROMLEY IN TONIGHT’S NATIONAL LEAGUE FIXTURE.

O

n behalf of the Board of Directors and everyone at Eastleigh FC, I welcome everybody connected with Bromley Football Club and trust you have an enjoyable experience here tonight, as well as a safe journey home.

With the change of ownership this summer, I am asking all our supporters to have faith in me, along with the general management and board of directors of the club. We are going to be changing things around a little, here and there, to try and improve the way the club runs for the good of the majority.

The programme is very busy at the start of the season and I am fully aware that many of you are currently experiencing one of the most expensive times of the year, with holidays and family commitments this month. I am therefore very grateful that you have decided to prioritise a visit to Stoneham Lane tonight, to come and watch the Spitfires in action for the fourth time in eleven days!

So, if there are changes to the way transport is organised, for example, or the way the bars operate on a match day or whatever the change might be, all I ask of you is to try and understand that we are doing these things for operational reasons to try and improve the result for the business, so that there is an Eastleigh Football Club not just this year or next year but for many years to come.

Normally, I am not one to make comment on the football performances, I leave that to the football people at the club. However, it would be remiss of me not to air my views about how unlucky we have been, in this opening week, not to have gathered in a grand total of seven points!

I enjoyed an excellent display from the lads on Saturday at The Hive in London along with the best part of a hundred other Spitfires fans. Thank you to everyone who made the commitment to travel. I know that it has a hugely positive effect on the team, when you are singing and cheering them on.

I truly believe that things balance themselves out over the course of the football year, so I feel we are owed four points already as the boys have done more than enough to gain that total in the games so far.

Let’s continue to be positive and get behind the boys this evening.

This season will have a lot to do with your faith, if you have any!

Mark Jewell Chairman Eastleigh Football Club.

Thanks for your support. See you all soon.

I have total faith in Andy, Ben, Ross and all the football management who, I know, have faith in the squad to deliver this term!

BARNET 1 EASTLEIGH 2

E

astleigh secured their first win of the season, with a 2-1 victory over Barnet at The Hive.

Michael Green scored his first league goal in three and a half years with an audacious strike from 30 yards before McCallum doubled the Spitfire’s advantage with a second half header. Barnet grabbed one back in the 90th minute through Charlee Adams, but it’s the Spitfires who soared to their first victory of the campaign. Andy Hessenthaler drafted Cav Miley and Chris Zebroski into the starting line-up at the Hive against his former club- who he appeared for 40 times in the league.

TSSC: EASTLEIGH v BROMLEY

W

e give a warm welcome to the players, staff, officials and most importantly the supporters of our visitors Bromley this evening. We wish them a safe journey back home after we’ve taken the three points off of them naturally.

AWAY DAY TRAVEL As of this season, the TSSC is taking over the organising of the travel for away games. In recent seasons the football club has run the away travel at heavily subsidised prices and as such the TSSC will be fundraising throughout the season to try to reduce the cost of travel for our fans. We have also changed our official coach supplier from this season from Wheelers to Luckett’s travel. The Fareham based company are one of the leading coach companies in the whole of the south of England.

NEW MOWER/DEFIBRILLATOR As agreed at the AGM in May, the TSSC has bought the club a brand-new mower called a ‘hoover’ which will be used before and after the games to give an even better cut to the grass. Head groundsman Dan Barnes gave an explanation of how it works to the AGM and everyone present gave their full support. And so it was agreed that the TSSC would purchase this piece of equipment and the football club kindly paid the VAT. It was also agreed that we would donate a substantial amount towards a second defibrillator.

NEXT THREE AWAY GAMES The details of the cost of the next three away games have been released. Although you don’t have to be a member of the TSSC to travel, you will get a slightly reduced cost if you are. The cost can be found on the TSSC website.

ENJOY THE GAME AND UP THE SPITFIRES.

ur Pan Disability section goes from strength to strength and we will be entering another season in the Saints Foundation League with our U12s, U16s and Adult teams. To attract more children and adults with disabilities, we will be running a ‘Try it’ session on Sunday 19th August on the 3G behind the Silverlake. This relaxed, informal session is designed to allow those who are interested to come along and try it out, with a view, hopefully, to joining us next season!

GUARD OF HONOUR

O

ur Guard of Honour and Ball Boys tonight are from the Eastleigh FC Under 14 boys. They play in Division 1 of the Southampton Tyro League and won the league and cup double last season! The team have represented Eastleigh FC since they were under 8s. A number of the players are also in the Eastleigh FC Academy which enhances their training. The boys have also represented the club in national grass roots tournaments and an international tournament in Calais. They are coached by Andy Kimble and Nick Perry and sponsored by Decorus, a Basingstoke headquartered technology provider.

e are still running our Sporting Memories Network sessions at the Velmore Centre on a Monday afternoon from 4pm-6pm. This is an ideal opportunity for members of the community to get together and reminisce about sporting events of yesteryear. The first half of the session is a group chat talking about a specific year, which also includes a quiz. The Half Time interval includes a cup of tea or coffee with a snack. Into the second half, we get involved with a physical activity (indoor bowls, darts, skittles etc.) which can become very competitive. For more information please email gazz@eastleighfc.com or call the club during office hours.
