One Firm One May Starting Point groups engaged in a brilliant mentoring session with Price Waterhouse Cooper (PWC) on the 23rd May 2013. It was an excellent opportunity for groups to discuss their project and get expert advice in improving their business ideas and structure. Groups were encouraged to comment upon any challenges or issues that they are already encountering or will encounter. Expert advice was given to the groups in order to overcome this. The groups managed to make some excellent links that can help them and we look forward to working in conjunction with PWC in the near future.

Award Success!

Starting Point was proud to attend The Barking & Dagenham Business Awards 2013. The red carpet event took place at The Broadway theatre on 2nd July 2013. Starting Point groups had a fantastic three nominations in three different categories.

A special congratulation goes to Arinola Araba from Teach Forex who achieved a highly commended award in the Innovation category. Teach Forex aims to raise the level of financial literacy amongst young parents in Barking and Dagenham.

Our winner on the night was Seun Oshinaike from Brighter Steppings.

Brighter Steppings won The Supporting Education Training or Development Award and achieved a Highly Commended Award in the Community Involvement including Social Enterprise category.

New MySI Project at the Barking and Dagenham Foyer My Social Innovation is a micro franchise program which will run over five consecutive days starting on 19th August 2013. The aim of the project is to provide 16-24 year old East Thames Foyer residents with training and expertise to set up their own fair trade

business. The young entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to sell products by day 5 of the project, and we are encouraging all foyer residents to get involved. For more information or to register your interest please contact Nicola directly on 020 3288 2100.

Starting Point Packages Please be aware Starting Point will be introducing fantastic cost effective packages for our permanent users.

We understand the tough economic hardship group’s are facing and also

recognise the importance of flexibility.

These packages will come into effect from September 2013, please speak to Starting Point staff for more information.

One of our aims is to always keep improving and maintaining the facilities at Starting Point. We feel it is our duty to help sustain a professional and proficient environment.

Taking the feedback from our recent customer satisfaction survey into consideration we have decided to make the following improvements • •

Replace all computers used in the centre by September 2013 Replace our existing photocopier with a new, top of the range model, which has already been completed!
