Roan Scholars Leadership Program

Where can the Roan take you?

The Roan Will CHALLENGE You

Go Beyond a Scholarship

As a premier scholarship opportunity at ETSU for students from the region, the Roan offers much more than an ordinary scholarship. The “Roan Experience” helps students learn, grow, and develop—as individuals and as exceptional leaders, positively impacting our region and the world.

The Roan Scholarship includes:

4 years of unique, out-of-the-classroom experiences

Full undergraduate tuition and fees

Housing and meal plan allowance

An allowance for books and supplies

10 students in each cohort

Choose any major and pursue any profession

~100 Roan alumni

Countless ways Roan Scholars are making a positive impact

“The Roan helps students become more confident in their ability to identify problems and opportunities, and to offer realworld solutions.”
- Nathan Farnor ’18
The Roan helps students realize their potential to impact our world.

Roan Impact Focus projects present opportunities to solve problems through collaboration, teamwork, and service.

The Outdoor Leadership Challenge is a weeklong adventure through the Appalachian Mountains for first-year students in which you’ll build lifelong bonds, create lasting memories, and learn to thrive outside your comfort zone.

Roan Scholars attend regional and national conferences and engage directly with leaders at all levels, gaining valuable experience in diverse professional settings.

Study abroad and other global experiences broaden Roan Scholars’ perspectives and build valuable leadership skills.

The program provides funding for Roan Scholars pursuing extraordinary summer opportunities that support their professional and/or personal development.
