he Reece Museum and Mary B. Martin School of the Arts at East Tennessee State University, community supporters Bravissima! Women Sponsoring the Arts!, and others joined in an initiative to purchase artwork created in 2019 or 2020 by artists from Tennessee’s First Congressional District for a Local Art in the Age of the 2020 Global Pandemic special collection to be housed in the Reece Museum’s permanent collection. This special collection serves as a visual, collective memory of the 2020 pandemic in northeast Tennessee. The benefactors, jurors, and community supporters appreciate the efforts of all those who had a hand in bringing this very special collection to the Reece Museum. The jurors issued

the following statement meant for all artists who entered the Local Art in the Age of the 2020 Global Pandemic initiative: In these challenging times, we appreciate all entrants who added their artistic voices for our consideration. Given there was a finite amount of money to be equally dispersed among the artists we juried into the pandemic special collection, we accepted our responsibility to posterity with humility and a collective critical eye. Over one hundred artists from eleven of the twelve counties that wholly or partially comprise the congressional district submitted artworks for the jurors’ consideration. Artist names and addresses were redacted for jurying purposes.

NOTE: Artists juried into the collection are listed in alphabetical order by their last name. Each artist received the same monetary compensation. Artwork dimensions are listed in inches as height x width x depth.
