2012 University of Scouting University of Scouting is one of the most important functions offered by the Los Angeles Area Council. It is a single-day training event designed to supplement any Scouter or Youth's training. Leaders, Volunteers, & Youth from every facet of Scouting are encouraged to attend (and do!) There is something for everyone! From the Scouter in the first year of leadership to the Scouter with many years of experience, University of Scouting is designed for YOU! Everyone is welcome.
Each year the leadership of the University reviews the participant and faculty evaluations of the preceding year in an effort to make University of Scouting more relevant and user friendly. Your input is valued and appreciated. University of Scouting provides a wide range of unique adult leader training courses where: • Cub Scout leaders, parents & committee members can pick up tips on "Putting Core Values into Your Pack Program,” “Blue & Gold Celebrations,” “Basic Leader Training” or “BALOO”. • Boy Scout leaders & committee members can take a variety of classes like “Advancement Basics” , “On-Line Advancement”, The 12th Point & “Leader Specific Training” or learn about BSA's high-adventure programs by taking classes such as “Climb on Safely” or Comfort Backbacking” and many more! • Venturing advisors & youth can spend the day on Venturing-specific topics like "How to run a successful & fun Crew Meeting" or "What is Venturing" and Adult Leaders can take Venturing Adult Traioning. • Leaders and parents can take other general studies topics which span a variety of scouting programs such as “Effective Use of Social Media” or "Geo-Scouting” or "Unit Trainer", “CPR & First Aid” • Youth can take a variety of classes such as “ILST”, "COPE", Eagle Scout Prep", “Leave No Trace” or “Been There, Done That, Now What?” to mention a few… Fees: $22 - Early Bird registration (registration must be received at the Service Center by November 25th) $32 - Registration after November 25th $10 - Registration for 2012 University of Scouting Staff/Instructors Only $15 - Child Care Registration, per youth (Ages 3-10) lunch and activities included $10 - Rangemaster Material Fee $25 - CPR and/or Basic First Aid Material Fee $10 - Den Chief Book (If signing up for Den chief Training) $ 5 - Cooking with Cubs Material Fee (NOTE: all fees include lunch) Online registration available at www.boyscoutsla.org

Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO). Yes, it is required training prior to any Cub Scout outdoor adventure, but also take it because it's FUN! Learn how to plan a great, Cub appropriate camping event including location selection, camping equipment, setting up camp, campfire safety (and fun), Cub Scout cooking methods, use of stoves & lanterns, first aid, nature hikes and games (and did we mention FUN?) and various other health and safety issues. Learn Boy Scout basic knots and lashings.
