HISTORY Camouflage is in somewhat of an interesting position in modern times. Following the conflict in Afghanistan, a large contingent of NATO forces all switched to either Multicam, or a multicam-like pattern such as the British Multi-Terrain Pattern (MTP). Due to this, very few camouflage patterns have seen use within military units. However, that is not to say that there are not a plethora of effective camouflage patterns on the market – some of which has seen use within the world of Law Enforcement. One such camouflage is the German-made CONCAMO. CONCAMO® is a camouflage system based on perceptual psychology. Its unsurpassed performance is based on naturally occurring shapes, which were catalogued and evaluated meticulously over the course of many years, and are now included in abstract forms in the CONCAMO pattern. CONCAMO® consists of 25 superimposed layers that combined create a chaotic illusion. The subconscious is overwhelmed by the camouflage pattern and begins to discern natural shapes in it. Through this overload, the relay of relevant information to the conscious mind is either stopped or delayed.

The development of CONCAMO®‘s proto-patterns already began in 1992, where the owner of CONCAMO, who at the time was just a young boy, spent his time creating a range of custom camouflage patterns by painting olive army uniforms with fabric paint. By 1995, the owner of CONCAMO enlisted into the German Army, where he served in the elite Fallschirmjager paratrooper unit. During this time he was able to further hone his knowledge regarding camouflage. During his active duty there, he perfected his approach to concealment, recognized possibilities for improvement and applied all into the development of CONCAMO®, so professionals would have a no-compromise solution. Following his time in the German Army, he began working on a new range of camouflage patterns; initially doing so as a hobby. However, as the time and effort exerted began to grow, a decision had to be made – “Back in the closet, or out the world”. The camouflage patterns he began to design were constantly refined until 2017, where he was confident that the current stage presented the desired solution. The final breakthrough was achieved through the application of modern scientific approaches derived from perceptual psychology.

PATTERNS With more than 30 years of experience in the field of camouflage patterns and the CONCAMO® system, the developer of CONCAMO® is able to create new designs of fully functional camouflage patterns for large customers and government users, matching their specific needs and requirements. These designs are guaranteed to perform excellent in the visual as well as the infrared range and that they can be patented by the client. In addition to new designs, already existing customer-specific patterns can be improved and performance-enhanced by CONCAMO®. This approach offers the opportunity to maintain a distinctive and familiar appearance while significantly increasing camouflage effectiveness. CONCAMO works in a rather interesting way. Designed taking into account the idea of perceptual psychology – a branch of cognitive psychology which deals with the pre-conscious innate aspects of the human cognitive system known as perception. The pattern is designed to confuse the brain, leading it to only recognise natural shapes, meaning the brain requires more time to process the information. To do this, CONCAMO utilises twenty-five different camouflage layers to create an illusion of chaos. CONCAMO plan to release eight different variants of the CONCAMO pattern, with two currently available which are green and brown variants of the pattern.

GREEN

CONCAMO CONCAMO® Green is the universal camouflage pattern of the CONCAMO® pattern family. This variation achieves a very good to excellent camouflage effect in a wide range of green-brown areas. A good camouflage pattern is always a compromise and an “universal” pattern an even bigger one. CONCAMO® Green has solved the task and “IT WORKS”.

BROWN

CONCAMO CONCAMO® Brown was specifically developed for the European and North American fall and winter forest, as well as for drylands with a higher red content in their natural environment. The contour of the user is effectively blurred out by the pattern, even on low-growing, dry meadows, achieving a level of stealth previously known only through the use of ghillie suits.

Hazard 4® was launched by their parent company, Civilian Lab® in an effort to provide their clientele with a number of tactical variants of their already hugely popular civilian range of products. Civilian Lab has a number of years experience manufacturing top quality outdoor adventure, extreme sport, and travel gear in innovative configurations and form factors, which led to members of the Armed Forces and Law Enforcement worlds to customise the civilian range, removing the iconic orange Civilian Lab tags to make the product appear more clandestine.

The Ventrapack from Hazard 4 is testament to the lengths Hazard 4 go to provide the end-user with unrivalled innovation. In essence, the Ventrapack is fairly simple. It features a 12.2” x 10.4” x 1.2” (L/W/D) chest-pack that opens up via a two-way zip to reveal a large organiser with room for a number of items including a 10” tablet and various items of stationary. COBRA BELT RANGE

Wear them tight or wear them loose, hang your guns, knives or pouches off them. Some are fastened through cast buckles, some you just weave through, and others make use of the super-durable AustriAlpin Cobra buckles. Some are manufactured from an old school fabric or classic nylon, while others are laser cut modular belts. With such a wide range of products on offer from Helikon-Tex, why are we so sold on the ‘Cobra’ range of belts compared to the other options offered by Helikon? Helikon-Tex are somewhat of an oddity in the tactical gear market. By that we mean that their journey to becoming one of the biggest manufacturers in Europe is rather different to a lot of their competitors. MODI 15 The MODI 15 is the smallest of four rucksacks within Karrimor SF’s Nordic Range; a range of rucksacks which takes its inspiration from the various

Norse gods of Viking myth. Karrimor SF designed the MODI 15 to fulfil the need for a smaller sized patrol pack for use within the Armed Forces. The MODI 15 is a 15 litre rucksack comprised of two main sections: a large main compartment and a smaller top pocket; both of which offer a two-way zip opening. The large main compartment opens to reveal a whole range of storage options, with two pockets located on one side of the opened rucksack and a organiser on the other. Behind the organiser Karrimor SF have also allowed room for either a laptop or hydration bladder. In a effort to remain at the forefront of the rucksack market, the MODI 15 has used a number of modern manufacturing techniques. Firstly, the MODI 15 is constructed with a laminated laser cut fabric which offers modular capability while reducing the weight and complexity of the bag. 3 1 The MODI 15 is Karrimor SF’s answer to the need for a smaller patrol pack within the Nordic range. The MODI is a 15 litre rucksack that offers load baring capabilities via two compartments – a small top pocket along with a larger main compartment.

The larger of the two compartments is where Karrimor SF have paid special attention. The pack opens up via a two-way zipper, leading to an area with a plethora of storage options. It also contains a laptop/hydration section towards the rear of the bag.

To ensure the MODI 15 protects the items enclosed within it, Karrimor SF have made use of a durable water repellent (DWR) coating. This ensures that the contents of the MODI 15 will stay dry in the wettest conditions.

The MODI 15 is manufacturers from KS-LC, a 500D Nylon face fabric with 210D Nylon laminated on the reverse face to increase strength and durability. Multicam models are manufactured from a 500D Infra-Red Reflective outer fabric.

It is often quite easy to forget that while the various militaries around the world are male dominant, there are a large number of females that serve across a variety of different roles. With this comes a need to properly equip females. While the majority of equipment will be unisex, with items such as plate carriers needing no change in design, the male and female body, as you are well aware, offer different challenges. The female form is most certainly different to the male form. Furthermore, wearing equipment that hasn’t been designed to take this into account can be uncomfortable. A NATO Stock Number, or National Stock Number as it’s known in the United States of America, is a 13-digit numeric code which identifies all the standardised material items of supply as they have been recognised by all NATO countries. That’s not to say that non-NATO countries do not make use of the NATO Stock Number, with Australia, Japan and New Zealand all making use of the system. The NATO Stock Number consists of the NATO Supply Class (NSC or FSC) and the National Item Identification Number (NIIN). However the NIIN alone uniquely identifies the item, the FSC merely adds context by indicating the general classification of the item. Both the Enforcer and the Firestorm are constructed from DuPont fire-resistant Nomex, which has been matched with a premium quality leather hide. This leather is soft, durable and hard wearing for use in the harshest of environments. Both the fingers and palms are protected with raised padding to offer the end-user additional protection. Furthermore, all key areas have been reinforced with double stitching to prevent any unnecessary failures. The Omega is Warrior Assault Systems’ latest glove, released with the introduction of the company’s new website. FCS13RE The FCS system is a Direct View Optic (DVO) that consists of an eye safe (class 1) 1550 nm Laser Range Finder, a ballistic computer with the capability to store more than 50 different ballistic algorithms, and a very near parallax free optical channel with unlimited eye relief. Throughout history, conflicts have taken place in some of the harshest environments known to mankind, and some products simply are not cut out to withstand the myriad of abuse operators often come accustomed to. In 1974, a small group of Swedish entrepreneurs started exploring ways to improve shooting accuracy, and in turn, produce a product that stood up to the environments operators found themselves in. Over time, their project grew into a product range that more than three-million end-users place their faith in - oftentimes when their lives depend on the equipment they use. An Aimpoint® sight gives you a tremendous advantage – aiming with both eyes open allows you to see the target as well as the surroundings. You instinctively place the red dot on the target, and you’re ready to pull the trigger. The mechanical switch allows the shooter to get the right setting rapidly while aiming through the sight. Aimpoint also design their products to operate constantly for years on a single battery so your sight will be ready when you are.

The FCS automatically compensates for the ballistic drop of projectiles at measured distances, factoring in variables such as rotational (spin) drift, propellant temperature and terrain angle. The system will also allow the engagement of moving targets and calculates the point of aim depending on speed of the target dynamically. When the distance is measured the ballistic is calculated and compensated immediately. The aiming reticule changes position in the optical channel electronically and very quickly. Neither motors nor sensitive moving parts are used within the system. If ammunition type is changed, the ballistic algorithm is entered and utilized automatically, so no new distance measurement is required. The Aimpoint FCS system can also be programmed for 40 mm HV airburst ammunition. The detonation can easily be moved along the axis of fire with different burst modes – string of pearls, to engage targets in defilade.

The CRKT Tighe Breaker is simplistic in design, with the knife being made from a single piece of 8Cr13MoV Steel, a Chinese-produced steel that offers good overall reliability at a cost-effective price point.

Tactical Medical Solutions® is a global leading developer and manufacturer of pre-hospital medical gear for the tactical and civilian world. In all, Tactical Medical Solutions is a multi-faceted company with products across a range of different fields.

TACMED ADAPTIVE FIRST AID KIT The TacMed™ Adaptive First Aid Kit, or AFAK, is a compact kit that provides the individual soldier or law enforcement officer with the necessary lifesaving equipment to effectively treat injuries commonly associated with combat trauma. The innovative design of the pouch and included tourniquet strap allow for the kit to be mounted either vertically or horizontally to any MOLLE surface, allowing the user to take advantage of unused space and prioritize individual equipment layout. The AFAK can also be adapted to a MOLLE belt for operators that require a self-aid capability when not utilizing a body Armor system. The removable insert and optional lanyard allow for “small of the back” placement with positive retention of the kit. An additional MOLLE platform on the exterior of the pouch aids in maximizing available space for user equipment preference. The included tourniquet strap system is also fully adaptive for vertical and horizontal placement based on user preference for access with both hands. The TacMed Adaptive First Aid Kit comes in both stocked and unstocked variants, allowing the end-user to decide whether they need a full medical kit or whether they already have one. Bare in mind though that the stocked versions would have been carefully picked to optimally fill the pouch.

One of the main benefits of the TacMed Adaptive First Aid Kit is it’s ability to be mounted virtually anywhere. This is thanks to the innovative design of the pouch which allows for the kit to be mounted either vertically or horizontally to any MOLLE surface.

The TacMed Adaptive First Aid Kit utilises an innovative system to store its content. This system comes in two parts. The first of these parts is a ‘shell’ that protects the contents of the pouch. This is made from a unspecified nylon material.

The second section of the TacMed Adaptive First Aid Kit is a Velcro-sealed pouch that stores all of the end-user’s medical equipment in. This has cleverly been attached to the shell with a lanyard.

The included tourniquet strap system is also fully adaptive for vertical and horizontal placement based on user preference for access with both hands, lending to the design of the pouch and the ability to use it in a number of ways.

Thanks to the design of the TacMed Adaptive First Aid Kit, the outside has been lined with MOLLE to allow the end-user to mount other items to the pouch should they need to.
