Zeus of Ebony Park -

Elementary

Hello Amazing Friesian Lovers!!! :) What an amazing month we have had here at Ebony Park!!!! :) As you know we competed at the Nationals. I personally didn't do our best, and Abe and I certainly had some learning experiences!!!! :) The best thing was to see Loes and Zeus rock, and also the love and thanks I feel for our team! As you all know and appreciate, no man stands alone, and Loes and I couldn't have been here and gotten such great results without my super team back home!!!! So thank you to my Mum, Ginger and my dad in law, Graham for checking in on the property and making sure the rest of the horses, mares, foals and humans were all well and happy. Thank you to Danielle for keeping the stables running, and keeping all the horses at home fed, watered and rugged. Thanks to super queen Kate who was left with a million things to do and ended up doing a million and 1!!! You are a godsend Kate and there is no way I could have gone away unless you were there so thank you!!!!! Loes you make me laugh! Keep rocking and doing your best and I will keep kicking your ass to be better and help you and Zeus get to Grand Prix!!! To my super husband Phil. I am nothing without you. You are my rock, my love and my support system. Thank you for loving me and being there! It didn't matter if it was hot chocolate in the morning or plaiting a tail in the afternoon - you were there. Thank you. Last but not least my horses. You guys are the reason we do what we do and you make it so easy!!! Zeus has just turned 5, and at nationals already and to come 16th best in Australia knocks my socks off!!! And Abe. My Abe. You are my mentor, me teacher and my friend. This journey wouldn't be possible without you and I love and thank you for everything you have made me so far, and for everything you will teach me and make me in the future. November is crazy busy as well - we have Equitana where Abe is shortlisted for the Kyra Kurkland clinic, and is also going to be in the breed display. We are also expecting two more foals and preparing for the Victorian Dressage Championships in early December so looking forward to it all!!!! I trust you are having an amazing month and smiling :) To Your Success! Natasha Ebony Park Friesian Magazine May 2012

NEWS UPDATE!! EP Bastian

We have just received an update from Sian, who became part of the Ebony Park family almost a year ago now when she fell in

love with EP Bastian (Ebony Park Abe x TB mare, and full brother to EP Anika) - and we felt we had to share with you!! :) This is what Sian had to say... Just thought I'd give you an update on Bastian, he's been going amazingly!! I have had him out three times for lessons with Robbie Clay and took him out for his fourth time today! The exciting part was today we

actually jumped. didn’t just have a lesson in the arena, we went to the pony club grounds for the first time! Bastian was amazing - he did not bat an eyelid at a n y t h i n g ! We had a flat lesson then decided to ride around with my instructor through the forest and out through the cross country - we went over bridges, the whole grade five course, some grade four brushes and the grade three ditch with absolutely no refusals, he took it all in his stride! Most of the time he just trotted over the jumps, but a few of them he

Unfortunately as we were going through the forest mum couldn't follow with the camera! But we did get some footage of the water jump! :) Just want to thank you guys again for breeding such a wonderful horse, he is an absolute dream to own, and despite the fact we've only been out a few times, he's received bucket-loads of compliments every time! Congratulations Sian and Bastian - what a superstar!! :)

NEWS UPDATE!! EP Rocky washed out bay amongst the black Friesians. I was a bit embarrassed initially by his washed out colour (he is brown) but interestingly enough, so many people watched him and came up asking about his breeding and just loved him, including his colour.

It must have been the month for updates!! We also received an update from Justine, who has two Ebony Park horses Purebred 3yo Daquiri of Ebony Park (Ebony Park Elko x Ebony Park Famke), who travelled to her new home in Queensland a couple of months ago, and EP Rocky (renamed Elkido Ebony Park Elko x The Carrock Zip) who Justine has had for about 18 months now. Elkido is five now, and my dream at the moment is to compete at the state level in dressage. However, we have started, and he is going really well at the moment. He is doing well at the local adult riding club near home, and last weekend he went to the state Friesian Championships in Queensland, looking a lovely

I was surprised as there was so many beautiful friesians around but they were watching him. He came second in the led class (partbred gelding over 4) and had to go in to compete for reserve champion partbred, but the judge said that only his let him down. I didn't really care about the led class anyway, as he comes into his own when ridden. As well, the two horses ahead of me were two very seasoned hacks that had been doing the circuits for years, so he did well for only going properly since July. Anyway, we had the partbred under saddle and Elkido came third against the other two hacks. The workout was hard as they wanted extended trot and extended canter in the workout, which I thought would be amusing since I had only started to ask Elkido to lengthen in the trot at home (and we still haven't got it quite yet!)

both of them (1A - 65% and 1C - 67.27%). But he did such a nice job too (there was none of the not listening to my legs and being strong or getting too heavy) so I was rapped with him. I am looking forward to next year starting novice tests with him as I have started training in leg yielding and shoulder-in etc. And, of course, while he is improving I will be teaching myself to be a quieter and better rider as an ongoing relentless task - especially as I have a lesson on average once a month and have no mirrors. Congratulations to Justine and Rocky on their fantastic performance at the Friesian State show!! Check out the videos of the two of them at the show! They have come such a long way since he was first broken in (photos) Video 1 Video 2

But the real news, is he went in the two preliminary tests they had and he won Ebony Park Friesian Magazine May 2012

Tash’s Training Tip - Self Esteem “You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe deserve your love and affection” -- Buddha I feel a little bit ‘naughty’ this month; talking about self esteem. You see, it isn’t talked about much. … Hi my name is Mr X and I have low Self Esteem. It just doesn’t happen. The problem is plenty of people suffer with it and I don’t like that at all! So let’s look at it!

adulthood we then believe we are not worthy of some things, we are not good enough for certain things and we don’t deserve certain things. What needs to happen is that the beliefs and values we believe to be true need to be shattered and realigned with the person you wish to be. Whenever I look at someone I admire, I don’t ask how did they do that – I ask what did

Self Esteem is your own feeling of worth as a h u m a n being, and it influences every single area of your life. The best question to ask yourself w h e n determining you own level of self esteem is “What do I deserve in life?” If the answer is not much, you will tend to attract people and events that confirm this opinion of yourself, if this is a lot, the opposite is true - you will attract people and events that confirm this belief. Self esteem is formed early in life and is shaped by the events of our past. We develop a self image based on the beliefs and values we learnt as a 7 year old. Into

they need to believe about themselves to do that? For instance for Isabell Werth to win all those medals at WEG, The Olympics and World Championships would need to have high self esteem of her capabilities as a rider for her to have achieved the results that she has. So hands up, who is ready to take responsibility for their own lives and raise their self esteem?!

1. Stop comparing yourself to others! There is always someone p r e t t i e r, t h i n n e r, m o r e successful, happier, more educated, etc than you. So what? This is YOUR life with YOUR lessons – follow your OWN path. 2. Stop negative self talk Would you talk to your best friend the way you talk to yourself? I didn’t think so! I would never tell my BFF she was ugly, fat, stupid pathetic and will never succeed in anything she does. So I can NEVER say that to myself! Love you, all of you, even the bad and speak to yourself in a l o v i n g , forgiving and generous way. 3. Who do you surround yourself with? You are the sum of the people around you. If the people around you are positive upbeat and successful you will change to fit in with them. It’s human nature. If you are around negative, hateful, complaining people you too will change to fit in. Make sure you are around people that love themselves and love and

Tash’s Training Tip - Self Esteem accept you. I am very wary of people that put others down or being around someone who doesn’t make me feel good. I am quite improper and will actually walk away or cease communication with these people. Yes that makes me socially a disgrace but keeps my self esteem intact.

On there I have ‘Getting my truck licence’ ‘Getting my degree’ these were all things that I had to work really hard for and I am really proud to have achieved. I have a saying – if I can get my truck licence; dude I can do anything, nothing is as hard as that! I also went without chocolate for 91 days! That was HUGE!

4. Have a gratitude wall

6. Affirmations Rule!

What are you thankful for? Sometimes we think so many things are wrong and we have nothing. Make time to make up a page for what you are grateful for.

An Affirmation is a wish stated as if it is already true. Having affirmations is an easy way to bring about positive change. An example is:

spouse, their parents, their children, society expectations. That’s great but you will never be fulfilled! You must live the life you were born to live: Your path, your j o u r n e y. Yo u c a n ’ t c o p y someone else’s you don’t get another go either – you only get one so what do you want to fill it with? What is your purpose? Why do you get out of bed in the morning? When you are clear on purpose you know what you stand for and your self esteem is rocking high!

I am beautiful, amazing, strong 8. Take Action When I am coaching clients on low self esteem the first task I set them is to write some goals – and those goals include brushing your teeth, getting out of bed. You see it only in taking action that we can get results and in obtaining results we start to succeed. When you shy away from challenge you are saying: I don’t believe I am capable to deal with this. The more you start saying yes to opportunities and backing yourself, the more your self esteem increases and the more you start to believe that you are capable!

5. Have a positive attributes list List everything that is amazing, special and wonderful about y o u . Yo u r s m i l e , y o u r organisation, you drive well! Everything and anything you can think of. You can also have a past successes board.

and wonderful. I need nothing external to me to validate my vibrant shine and contribution to this world. 7. Live your life

To Your Success,

Natasha

5 Minutes with Kyra Kyrklund Since Natasha has been shortlisted for the Kyra Kurklund clinic at Equitana this month, I thought we should do a quick profile on her for those of you who may not know her!! :) Kyra was born in Helsinki in 1951. As a child she was mad about horses and used to ride her godmother's draught horses during summer holidays. After a fall resulting in a broken arm her parents bought her ten riding lessons at a riding school in Helsinki. Little did they know what they started by this... In 1967 Kyra participated in her very first competition, the Nordic Cup in Lahtis, Finland. She rode a horse called Dragon in a novice jumping class. After winning two classes, the chef d'equipe of the Finnish jumping team asked if the horse was capable of jumping in a higher class. If he were, he and Kyra would be included in the junior team. Although she had never jumped at the higher level, Kyra relied on Dragon, and answered yes. With Kyra on the team, Finland won the Nordic cup and individually she was placed second.

Kyra Kyrklund now lives in Surrey, England, with her husband, Richard White, and their dog, Ludwig. A five-time Olympian, Kyra trained with the late Walter Christensen of Germany from 1975 to 1977. She then trained with Germany's Herbert Rehbein from 1980 until his death in 1997. In addition to the Olympics, Kyra Kyrklund earned a silver medal at the 1990 World Equestrian Games in Stockholm, Sweden, and was placed first at the 1991 World Cup Final in Paris, France. She recently began riding and competing the 17.2-hand Oldenburg gelding Andiamo Tyme in Grand Prix. Few riders in the world have managed to train and successfully compete so many different horses in international Grand Prix dressage. Kyra has obtained this exceptional result fourteen times, with Piccolo, NĂśr, Matador, Ramon Navaro, Edinburg, Vancouver, Flyinge Amiral, MidtWest Ibi-Light, Dakar, Patrick of Finland, Master, Asterix, Lillemarkens Arkibal and Max.

In combination with Kyra's reputation as a world-class trainer and rider, her great sense of humour has made her lecture demonstrations and clinics globally renowned. At the demonstrations Kyra shows how she trains horses from the very first step up to Grand Prix level. While riding, Kyra explains and demonstrates how she uses her well-known method of training horses with kindness but firmness, using a logical and consistent system to obtain excellent results. Ebony Park Jor!t Jorrit is an exceptional dressage stallion that made it through to the very prestigious 70 day performance test for approved stallions. In the performance test in Holland, Jorrit was within days of being approved as a stallion but a muscle strain hindered his movement and was unfortunately eliminated late in the test. He was also awarded a breeding permit from the KFPS when they came out for the 2009 Keuring. This is only awarded to very select Friesian stallions who possess the desired characteristics of the breed. There are only a few Friesian stallions in Australia that hold a current KFPS permit, and Ebony Park is very proud to offer Ebony Park Jorrit to the discerning Friesian breeder. This permit is limited to only 20 mares so please Born 12/05/2003, 16.2hh, Jet Black book quickly and as early as possible to avoid imported Friesian ster stallion disappointment! Ebony Park Elko

Unfortunately, due to a paddock injury to his knee, Elko is no longer able to be ridden, and has been retired from the competition arena. Ebony Park is extremely disappointed and upset by this incident, however we are very happy that he is still able to be bred, and has still retained his breeding permit (not something to be taken lightly, as the KFPS are very strict about awarding breeding permits!). When Elko was able to be ridden he was destined to be Natasha’s Olympic Grand Prix horse. He had everything! Three amazing paces, the desire and trainable temperament, and was quick to learn and improve. In his short career he scored up to 72% in preliminary and gained 44 grading points qualifying him for the 2006 Australian Dressage Championships in Novice in only 2 months of competition.

Ebony Park Abe

Abe has had consistent results of over 62% at the Inter I level, and currently competing and winning at the Grand Prix level in 2012 with scores over 60%, improving with each competition! Early in his career Abe was the horse to beat in Novice bringing home 3 Novice Championships with scores up to 71%. He also took home an Advanced Championship in 2008 and competed and qualified for the prestigious Dressage with the stars in the PSG and Inter I Kur in March 2010.

Abe is now establishing himself in Grand Prix and he hasn’t disappointed. His piaffe/passage is amazing and we are now waiting for him to develop the strength to catch up. This horse is destined for a legendary Grand Prix career. Ebony Park Abe is an exceptional stallion to ride. He is powerful and responsive and carries you through any situation with pride and attitude.

Zeus of Ebony Park Zeus is Elko’s first son that we have bred, and we have eagerly been waiting the years until he was old enough to work. At 4 1/2 he is already competing in Novice level dressage, with scores over 68%! Zeus is a delight to work with, having an exceptional canter just like his father, and a swinging, easy trot. He is still taking time to mature with some growing to do, but in another year we are so excited to see where this boy is at! He has inherited the beautiful, willing Friesian temperament from both sire and dam. This will be Zeus’s second season standing at stud, with his first babies due later in the year, and a wonderful opportunity for people to get access to Elko’s bloodlines!
