INTRODUCTION
Books! Books! And More Books! What I know for sure is that I love books and love reading. Books not only are entertaining, but also educational. This Little One Summer issue contains a wonderful list of fiction and nonfiction titles to take little ones to the end of summer. The nonfiction titles range from biographies and culture to history and social themes. These books build curiosity and creativity, increasing cognitive and emotional aptitude. I do hope you find something new, different and surprising to share with your young readers. Time and care are taken in choosing categories and titles that are fresh and new. Large, medium, and small publishers are represented. All category titles in these updated lists are curated by our experienced Collection Development librarians. Take time to read the Libraries Today article, a recurring feature on topics that relate to the current environment and the library community. These articles are written by guest librarian contributors. Throughout these pages, you can click through to Bibz to view enhanced information about the title or titles you are viewing. This easy-to -use design features key information to assist with your bookpurchasing decisions.

Community Connections Collaborate with local businesses for a fun Scavenger Hunt! Cortland Free Library strives to provide quality, fun programming that meets the needs of our community.
by Tammy Sickmon —
Youth Services Librarian Cortland Free Library Cortland, NY
Tammy has worked in the library field, with youth of all ages, for 27 years. Six of those years have been at Cortland Free Library. She loves bringing stories to life, whether through puppets or wearing a crazy outfit. Her goal is to provide a welcoming space that
Due to COVID-19, some of these needs changed as many libraries were closed and/or were not able to provide inperson programming. To stay connected with our families, as well as provide a program that would promote community, literacy and the outdoors, we offered a Fairytale Scavenger Hunt. Local businesses participated by allowing the library to place a sign in a window or door facing the sidewalk. Families did not have to enter the business to participate, but could still see pertinent information about the business. Since our library is located in a downtown area, it was easy to locate businesses within a two-block radius that would like to participate. Signs were created with a picture of a fairytale Two young readers object, such as a dragon or castle, and participate in the library's a number from 1-10. Each business scavenger hunt. received a sign and individual number. Children could print their scavenger-hunt list online or pick one up at the library. The sheet listed each business name with its number and a line to write down what the fairytale object was. Many families tried to guess the actual fairytale story by the object, but that wasn’t a requirement. The last place to stop was the library, where participants could turn in their sheets to enter a prize drawing at the end of the month. The hunt was a wonderful way to support not only families, daycares, and summer camps, but also local businesses, creating a stronger sense of community.
helps readers form lasting relationships with library staff and each other.
