In
an exclusive interview with Ebuzz, radio jockey, video jockey, disc jockey, actor and musician, Ali Safina talks about life, friendship, marriage and show business. Jalaibi did not receive many favorable reviews. Your performance, however, was singled out as the one of the few redeeming features of

the film, in virtually all of the reviews. Did that hurt your relationship with other members of the Jalaibi team, most of whom were subject to scathing reviews? Not at all. My bond with the director, producer and my fellow actors actually became stronger after the reviews came out. We are all professionals and know
how to evaluate, understand and handle feedback and criticism. The reviews helped us understand the shortcomings – and strengths – of Jalaibi. Discussions about the various aspects of the film brought us closer to each other. The experience helped all us grow as professionals in the field of cinema. How did you enter the world of show business? I started my career as a presenter on

Chatroom the radio when I was a student in Scotland. This was followed by a career on the radio in Pakistan. After a few years on the radio, I did a number of television shows on MTV Pakistan and Indus Vision. Then, I got a break as an actor in the immensely popular television serial ‘Dolly Ki Ayegi Baraat’. I was subsequently cast in the two sequels, ‘Takkay Ki Ayegi Baraat’ and ‘Annie Ki Ayegi Baraat’. My performances on television, fortunately, always got good reviews and I became one of the busier actors on television. Jalaibi, of course, was my first feature film and marked my entry on the silver screen. How did you feel before the release of Jalaibi? Very nervous. Why? I think because I had invested a lot of time, effort and energy into this film. I had never worked harder on anything else in my life. Had I been that diligent in school, I would have been a top student. I was scared that my performance in Jalaibi would go un-noticed. I would have been okay with bad reviews, and with accolades, but couldn’t have handled not being noticed. After several years on radio and television, I had come to the conclusion that film was my medium of choice. To not make a mark in my first film would have hurt me and my confidence. You have a degree in mechanical engineering. Why did you not pursue a career in the field? My siblings were always very good students. There was a lot of pressure to do well in school and I got my degree as a result of the pressure. Otherwise, I had little, if any, interest in engineering. Working a nine-to-five job as an engineer was never something I wanted to do. That would have killed me. I believe that a career in show business was my true calling and what I really wanted to do in life. So one day I decided to leave Oman, where I used to live with my parents, and came to Pakistan to pursue my dream career. I arrived in Karachi with two suitcases and not much else other than my confidence and determination to make a mark in the field. Did you ever regret your decision to give up everything, so to say, and start from scratch in Karachi? No, not even once. There were some days which were rough but, since I always had a confidence in myself, I was always optimistic and happy. I did radio and found success on the medium. I worked in some of television’s most popular series and serials. I was recognized as an actor and developed a fan following all over the country. The industry has treated me well. EBUZZ

I am a positive and happy person by nature. I live in the same world that others do and, therefore, see abuse and mistreatment like others do but I am a fun-loving and optimistic person. I handle these with a mature positivity that comes naturally to me. I actually did not return to Oman for six years. I was determined to establish my credentials in show business before I went back to see my family. So, the few short periods of adversity not with standing. I have always been happy with my decision to not pursue engineering as a career and move to Pakistan to work on radio, television and in films. It was the right decision for me. During your period of struggle, did you ever experience the abuse – sexual, financial and emotional – that is prevalent in show business? I am a positive and happy person by nature. I live in the same world that others do and, therefore, see abuse and mistreatment like others do but I am a fun-loving and optimistic person. I handle these with a mature positivity that comes naturally to me. Did Karachi welcome you when you arrived? Yes. It is one hell of a city and holds tremendous opportunities for those who are determined to succeed. It has a very high level of social and cultural diversity. I was comfortable in Karachi from the day I arrived. How did you make friends in the city? It was through my work. My shows on radio and television helped me meet a very large number of people. A number of them went on to become friends. Do you make friends easily? I do but it is not because I try very hard to make friends but because I am easy-going person and, if others are to be believed, have a lot of positive energy. People value this energy and become friends.
How did you meet your wife, Hira Tareen? Hira moved to Karachi from Dallas in 2012, which was a few years after my move to the city. She and I both worked as deejays at the time and had a lot of friends in common. We met through these friends and bonded immediately because of our shared interests and similar experiences. Was it love at first sight? No, not at all. I liked the fact that she was laid-back and easy-going. I admired her ambition and resolve to realize her dreams. I loved her composure and confidence. Hira and I became friends before we fell in love. She continues to be a friend; my best friend, actually. I consider Hira to be my friend first and my wife second. Hira Tareen acts as well. Who is the better actor? I am. Really? Her performances are more studied, serious. I am more natural and appear to work effortlessly. That beings aid, I believe she has tremendous potential. She has been under-utilized as an actor thus far but, mark my words, she will go on to become one of Pakistan’s most well-respected actors. What makes your marriage work? I think that we have a successful marriage because we give each other a lot of space. We understand, respect and support each other’s goals, aspirations and dreams. We trust each other and are not jealous and suspicious of each other. Most importantly, we enjoy each other’s company and have fun together.

Black magic When want to look classy, black is a perfect colour to wear. This trend never goes out of fashion. The black, it is democratic and flexible – which always work nicely well for the majority of the shapes/forms of the body, and can be used in a subtle or assertive manner.
Cinch in your waist with a belt
Whether you are wearing a gown for an evening look or a dress during the day, a belt will help to enhance your curves in all the right ways accentuating your waist. Many designers featured the belted trend throughout their collections and is one to look to if you are not quite sure how to rock this style well.

Sparkles in action Glitter may sounds a bit 1990’s disco, but it also works for the grown ups, the mega star grown up to be exact. We have seen some of the celebs donning this trend recently on many events.
Sarees
The ethnic equivalent of a glamorous evening gown is the embellished sheer sari. The quirky net and printed sarees became really popular on the red carpets and judging from what we have seen on the ramp too, this trend is not going to die down anytime soon.
Statement lipstick Bold colour lipstick makes you hot. If makeup is light and you just apply a red and orange lipstick, this will complete your looks. To update your wardrobe instantly, lipstick does wonders and this season the brighter the better. It is also a great way to take a day makeup look into the evening. EBUZZ

DO’s AND DON’Ts OF FASHION BLOGGING SHARING OUR DEEPEST SECRETS, OUR BEST LEARNINGS! #TeamSiddySays sits down with the E Buzz team to share some of their most insightful learnings in their blogging journey. All aspiring bloggers take note, this is the 101 that could get you skyrocketing!
People Hate Commercial Content:
In the absence of any standards in blogging locally, we have tried to explore various models to monetize the blog so we recover the costs. One learning that we’ve had straight out is tha readers dislike anything that seems faintly commercial. It’s been one of our biggest learnings, trying to evolve with our partners and develop content that benefits both the advertisers and the end users. Whenever we get too commercial our readers are the first ones to tell us as it is.
Personal Angle Works:
Blogs are personal. If they’re not personal they’re magazines. The content that gets most traction is always more personal featuring your own images, your own experience. There are a million magazines out there but only one you! Which is why we always make it a point to introduce our team on social media and the blog, ‘Team SiddySays’ is made of people that readers appreciate and follow.
Blogs Do Not Make Money, Bloggers Do:
The biggest bloggers across the world do not make money out of their blogs but the status they get as bloggers. While blogging can be a great source of income, we came to a point where we were faced with the dilemma of being true to ourselves or our clients. It’s important to work on yourself, do complimenting work such as write articles, and consult etc jobs that stem from your status as a blogger. Since most of us in the team have day jobs anyway, if we break even on the blog we consider it a EBUZZ

successful month.
To Be Loveable You Have To Be Approachable:
No one has thousands to spend on fancy bags and shoes! We have noticed our followers will appreciate finer things in life, too many brands thrust in their faces also isolatets people. People are not impressed by money, they’re impressed by taste. In fact, people appreciate it if you keep it real. Confess what you aspire to, what you can’t get, what you have, how you got it etc.
Pictures Are Everything:
Not only do pictures help greatly in Search Engine Optimization, they automatically attract people to your blog. In our personal experience, it is the images that get people to your website. Blogs with good quality images will not only attract readers, it wil keep them coming back too. We have seen a marked difference in reader interest between posts that have good images and those that struggle.
Learn To Say No:
One of the biggest things we have learnt in blogging is to politely say no. When things started getting well for us, we tried to accommodate everyone and true to cliché we ended up making more people unhappy than happy. Now we politely say no and hope to do whatever we say yes to justice.
Enjoy What You Do:
The blog thrives when we are having fun. Most of the team members are working individuals who moonlight as bloggers. Inevitably we’re not always 100% vested in the blog which shows! It’s great to have a team because when you’re out, someone else will step up.

Interview
By Seharish Shahzad
You just needs to tell him the budget and the type of wedding you want and he will come up with miraculously awesome ideas to make your dreams come true right from the venue to the menu, invitation cards, decorations and everything. In an interview with Ebuzz, QYT talks about planning a wedding, his style of working and much more. How long have you been a wedding and event planner? I was studying in NCA and Nelofer Shahid was a big name. She is still a pioneer. Her daughter was getting married so she called me and said ‘Fatima is getting married and I want you to take charge of it.’ she told the wedding is next week. I said ‘I’m a student. How will I do this?’ She replied, ‘I have full faith in you. I see something in you.’ So, when I did that event it became the talk of the town. This was in 1999. In 2003, I officially launched my company. When did you realise about your creativity and talent, what inspires you to be a Event planner? When I was a kid we had a lot of dinners and parties at my home. My father was in army. My mother loved organizing/hosting dinner, lunches and brunches etc. My mother was very ladylike and a very well dressed woman. Whenever she goes out, everyone loved how she used to dress. I was a kid when I had the opportunity to listen to Ghulam Ali at my place. My mother used to decorate with a lot of fresh flowers and décor. So, I used to see this and was very inspired. Although I am talking about the late 80’s and that time flowers weren’t even a trend then but she was creative that way. I think I have taken this from my mother. What are the main characteristics of a good event planner? Commitment and responsibility. If you take on a project then take it as a responsibility. From weddings and product launch to a fashion show - even if it’s a small scale event it is still the client’s main event because they are putting their money and effort. So, if you want to see a good final result then you have to be very committed and very responsible. We have to do everything on time because there is a certain deadline .There is a time on which we have to get everything done and ready. So if your team is properly trained then everything goes smooth. Do you have a signature aesthetic or personal style that you put into the weddings or events? I get my creative inspiration when I travel. I use a lot of fresh flowers. I am an artist. I knew this from a very young age. My parents wanted me to join the army but I told them that I am an artist.

Interview
Your job sounds pretty fun, What do you like most about being a planner? Now, I feel very happy and proud when someone comes to me for the work and then opens up their own company. A lot of the times people try to copy my designs but then it shows that they are not artists. When someone does this, I bring a new creativity with a new design. Why should couples hire a wedding planner? When I am doing an event, then I take all my client’s stress, tension and pressure. Previously, at weddings all the family used to be exhausted by the time the event would start because there’s a lot of work to be done. So, I tell my clients not to take any stress related to the event and just go and pamper themselves and come to the event looking gorgeous and stress free. I think that it has become a status symbol that I am getting my event done from so and so. I think this shouldn’t be the case. In my view your event/wedding should be well managed, beautiful and comfortable that you and your family are happy with it. It’s on you whether you want to hire an event planner or not. Cost can be something that holds back couples from working with a wedding planner. What would you tell brides and grooms about the cost? Well you can say that cost is a myth and not a myth. A lot of the times people come to me thinking I am a very very expensive wedding planner. Let me tell you, I look very expensive but that’s not the case. Say, if there a beautiful huge hall and we have to decorate it so obviously we are going to fill it with things so the budget can go high but then, a lot of people want a minimalist ambiance and so in a budget event can also be done. A lot of the clients want something extraordinary, new and done differently. EBUZZ

So I design all my things myself. I use a lot of fresh flowers, crystals and wooden carved things. All my things are very expensive. Obviously, when they are expensive then you get an expensive look. A lot of the times, many sweet girls come to me and even if it’s not in their parents’ budget I still do the event. Because they say that ‘it’s our dream that our wedding should be a QYT event’ so then, I try to accommodate them because I know if I want to get something and I can’t get it how would I feel? So, I understand this feeling and you know, a wedding is more of a girl’s day. The groom just wears a sherwani and shows up at the event. *laughs* . You know the girl is a bride, she gets all dressed up, it’s her day. So, I want to make this whish of them to come true and I have done many of these events where people didn’t have the budget but I still did the event for them and I feel very good about that. Do you see any new trends emerging in the wedding industry presently in Pakistan? Weddings are different from fashion. In fashion, a new style comes in vogue and fades away. In weddings, it all depends on what the client wants. Every person has a different choice. We get a lot of clients who want a lot of colour and then, I suggest to them that mehndi is a colourful event. I don’t use a lot of colours in barat and reception but a lot of people insist that no we want loud colours in these events as well. Then, I try to educate them and I have seen, most of the times they agree with me . Some people want a lot of flowers, some want a very Victorian, palace type, grand look. So in wedding the trend doesn’t change like that in fashion. It all depends on the client and what theme they want.
What kind of pressure sometimes you have to face while dealing with the clients? Either it’s a wedding or fashion or corporate event pressure is always there. Time constraint is the first thing. My team works at night till 4 am. So, 30-40 percent of the work is done till the morning. So, all I have to do in the morning is put some final touches. Tell us about that one wedding you organized and it was best for you uptill now? You can’t pick and choose between your children. I love all my wedding events because I have created them, I have given them birth. Like eight years ago, I did Nadia Malik’s wedding, then I did Vinny’s (Vaneeza Ahmad) wedding. I did Ali Zafar’s that’s a very favourite event of mine. Two years back I did Mehreen Syed’s wedding that became my very favourite. There is always a pressure that the last event was so good, how can I top that. I want to outdo myself every time. Tell us something about you that most people don’t know… preferably non work-related I am a Gemeni. I am a workaholic and very dedicated. I love travelling. I go to New York and visit it three times in a year for vacations. This event management is my passion, it’s not my bread and butter. I have never told anyone this till today that I have got some land near Sargoda. We grow sunflower, sugarcane and our main crop is citrus. Can you leave us with some tips for brides and grooms planning their wedding? Tip should be that they should contact me only (laughs) Wedding is a once in a lifetime experience. Girls and boys od today want the best for their wedding. So, try to get the best venue, best caterer and florist. In Pakistan, the concept of destination wedding is not so prevalent. I have done a few of them. Mainly, because it can be quite costly. It doesn’t mean you have to travel internationally to have a destination wedding. There are beautiful places in Pakistani where it can be done. So, just do your homework. Think about what you want. Go to a good wedding designer and then leave it to him.

LA Societe Authentic Flagship Store in Lahore (LA Societe A classique destination for Luxury Shopping)
Creating a space that is inviting and visually appealing is a key to attracting customers to retail stores and destination locations. Thanks to our fashion industry that has set itself on the same standards as that of international fashion industry. This, of course, has given tough competition to mediocre and upscale retailers alike to make their products sale-worthy. From offering latest merchandise to creating an environment that is comfortable, outlets have struggled to meet the demands of customers. Retail layout and design is a combination of science and art, which ‘La Societe’ has accomplished successfully. Located in the heart of Lahore’s fashion hub; MM Alam road, the outlet resides in a single storey Roman inspired building. La Societe is the country’s largest independent luxury retail group that specializes in contemporary men’s and women’s designer wear. With a brand portfolio including Giorgio Armani, Hugo Boss, Canali, Dolce & Gabbana, Roberto Cavalli, Replay, William Hunt, Saville Row and Marc Jacobs & Michael Kors, the outlet purchases trend merchandise directly from designers. It is through its interior decor that the outlet is successfully exhibiting each brand’s story - distinguished in style. Special attention has been given to details making sure the philosophy of each brand is well presented. “Having a solid design strategy is essential for successful sale. To give customers a pleasant experience we have carefully designed every single area within the outlet. The threshold area, or better known as the ‘decompression zone’, is the very first space that customers step into. That is where the customer is in the transition mode. We make sure our customer steps into an outlet that
www.ebuzztoday.com
is visually appealing and brings them into a mood that elevates their spirits. Then we let them walk the path, so they stroll down the aisle having a clear view of all the products on display,” shares Shahid Luqman, renowned UK based entrepreneur, Real Estate investor and founder of the outlet. Decked in well polished marble floor, the threshold area is accentuated by fresco on the ceiling depicting Michelangelo’s art in Sistine Chapel. The interior painted in white is complemented with decor and accessories in black making the overall look and feel of the outlet all the more stunning. Paying homage to an old saying ‘Where the eyes go, feet will follow’ the outlet is designed having a circular path, and customers are led through the path to glance at the ensemble and accessories showcased. But, customers are slowed down by what is called ‘speed bumps’ (presented through marble topped round tables, black velvet chairs and centre pieces) that give them a chance to take a visual break. Merchandise outposts (special display fixtures featuring products) in either ends or in between the aisles encourage impulse purchases while killing the overall monotony of the interior decor. “What makes La Societe an outstanding destination store is that it takes interest in
its interior decor. They revamp the entire store every season. There is complete uniformity in their design philosophy. The outlet in Centaurus Mall, Islamabad is revamped accordingly. More than this, unlike other outlets that offer outdated designer brands, they have the latest merchandise and are represented in the same manner of style as abroad,” says a regular customer. “Having a fashion outlet is not only about selling your product. It’s about protecting the brand image and name one is representing. Especially when it’s a retail store offering multiple leading brands, one has to ensure the same standards as all other outlets across the globe are following. This is why we re-do our entire design philosophy every season while re-doing our window display literally every eight weeks,” informs Shahid Luqman. Most outlets get their customers confused when it comes to checking out - especially if the cash counter is placed opposite to the exit path. The cash counter, which is the ‘check out’ point, should be located at a natural stopping point. Considering this, the outlet ensured their check out post is created and designed as such that it gives free way to its customers coming in and exiting the store. Designing the interior of an outlet is an ongoing process. The management is supposed to be up on its toes all the time; tweaking, adding or subtracting from its interior decor every now and then. From selecting the flooring material to doing the ceiling and wall colour, and playing upbeat music to keeping that fresh scented aura and ambiance alive, La Societe stands out as classique destination location for A-class retail shopping experience. Celebrities always have a busy life due to work. Sometimes mostly people judge them just by the roles they play but we can’t judge them by the characters they play. When on set I am very relaxed on sets. I try to make sure that nobody gets disturbed by me. Most of my time is spent rehearsing or shooting. Since I share a good relationship with almost all teams I work with, we enjoy our off time chatting. I am the kind of person who has no issues working with anyone. I make sure that my co-stars are comfortable with me. As a professional, it is important to maintain a cordial relationship to ensure our work goes smoothly.
Family life I always make it a point to spend quality time with my family no matter how busy I am. Something that I have learnt is that you always need to make efforts to make time for your loved ones. When I am spending time with my family, I disconnect from my phone and enjoy their company. We like relaxing at home watching movies or having some home cooked food. We also really enjoy dining out so we go out from time to time.
praised and started receiving numerous acting and modeling offers, I decided to take it as a career. I am a kind of person who will give his 100% to everything he is doing, so when I started acting I used to observe everything thoroughly on sets. I enjoyed being involved in other aspects such as camera work. This is how I developed an interest in production and decided to start my own production house. When I am a producer, I leave my acting aside and focus on bringing the best actors suited for the characters written in the script. There have been various scripts which were written for me such as Pyaare Afzal, but I gave them up and called other actors in to do it because I knew they would suit the role better.
blooming now, and I am trying to help out in whatever ways I can. ‘Main Hoon Shahid Afridi’ was a successful project, and we learnt a lot from it which is why my upcoming project ‘Jawani Phir Nahin Ani’ is a step further in terms of everything. I am confident about this project.
Future ventures There is a lot that I want to achieve. In fact, I feel like I haven’t done anything noteworthy so far and there is so much more that I plan on doing. You will soon hear some very exciting news from my end.
As for films, everyone knows I made by debut as a film actor. Unfortunately, there were not many quality projects being produced back then hence eventually I had to shift my focus to TV. When I did ‘No Paisa No Problem’, I had decided to produce my own movie now which is ‘Main Hoon Shahid Afridi’. I am very happy to see our film industry
As a person I am a very positive person. I don’t take minor issues too seriously as there is so much more to do in life. I feel blessed to have achieved everything that I have in my life, and don’t let the negativity around me affects me. I work hard to achieve the goals I set for myself. However, I am always content with whatever God gives me.
Contributions for the industry When I started working in the entertainment industry, I was already working a secure job which was financially stable. I did just one commercial for fun, but when I was

Places you must visit
Tranquil Uzungol
Icecream and Castles at Simena
Colourful Cappadocia
Pool of Abraham
Sitting in the Northeast Black sea region, Uzungol is relatively unknown to Westerners but is popular with Arabic tourists. Traditionally, locals collect wood from the nearby forests to build their hotels and houses, situated around the large and peaceful lake.
Cave churches, dipping valleys and weird rock formations form the surreal landscape of Cappadocia. Notoriously featured in the film Ghost Rider, its importance also stems from its history as a hub for early Christianity.

Simena (Kalekoy) is a popular village on Mediterranean cruises. Well known for its homemade icecream flavours, another reason to visit is the view of Kekova Bay from the Byzantine castle.
Also known as Balikli Gol, the beauty of the Pool of Abraham is not its size or visual appearance but as the destination where Nimrod supposedly threw Abraham into the fire. Situated in the city of Sanliurfa, a 2-day stay is a perfect insight into conservative Turkey.
