The day one kicked off with HSY collection. HSY has the record for doing finale but this time around he chose to open the week. Apart from newbies like Deena Rahman and SaniaMaskatiya, the day also witnessed an exclusive hair trends show offering clients a complete bridal package.

The collection was symphony of rich hues andreflected a sense of timeless elegance, striking a balance between tradition and modern cuts. Singer Junaid Khan walked on ramp with Mehreen Syed and sang a song. The embellishments and texture used in the collection was pitta, gota, pippalgirah, long girah, marori, Kashmiri tanka, crystals, mukesh, naqshiganta etc. The menswear collection in the segment was simple and wearable with clean cuts. Over all the collection was in three colour themes. Sexy cholis and layered silhouettes gave a contemporary edge to a very classic look.

Each piece was well designed keeping in mind with the modern style of men’s. Cuts and use of non-conformist silhouettes made the collection very unique.HSY stepped in as a show stopper for EXIT. The collection was edgy and perfect for the contemporary man.

RUNWAY collection laid emphasis on cuts and finish but collection did not work well. Overall, the collection was feminine and echoed a muted elegance, but did not bring any thing out of box.

Elan’s collection was one of the highlights of the evening. Her collection titled ‘The Sultanate Collection’. It was a great collection of variety of outfits including long, short and asymmetric shirts as well as sarees. No doubt the collection was beautifully cohesive. Various colours with different fabrics merged into dazzling pieces looked superbly stunning. As always Elan show was simply breathtaking. The collection was a delightful fusion of traditional and modern designs.

SaniaMasktiya

SaniaMaskitiya closed the show with her collection titled ‘Tilism her collection titled ‘Garden Party’. The collection drew inspiration from the dressing sensibilities of ladies in the pre-World War I era. Using an array of fabrics including chiffons, nets and satins, the collection offered an interesting mix of asymmetrical cuts, crystal embellishments and cutwork and pastel hues. The duo ‘emphasiswas on separates like jackets, shawls and peplum tops. Greater attention had been given to the choice of fabric and embellishmentwhich had a lot of variety but the collection failed to impress the audience. There was nothing much special in the collection that could grab the attention.

SadafMalaterre

Woven Treasures of the Magical East’. The collectionfeatured a range of silhouettes, from lehngas and cropped pants, to cholis, capes and jackets. The collection presented a host of playful separates, engaging both traditional as well as contemporary embroideries but it did not go well with screen and digital print. Her designs this time didnot rule out the fact that we wanted to see her in couture as well.

Day 2

The Day two stared with a bang. The earlier shows were by two designersNickie Nina and SadafMalaterre and then followed by late evening shows with the collections from FahadHussayn, MishaLakhani and Sonia Azhar with the evening’s finale presented by Ali Xeeshan.

Nickie Nina

Nickie Nina opened the day 2 with www.ebuzztoday.com

SadafMalaterre was up next with her debut collection. The collection was simple according to the bridal collection of others. Sadaf’s aesthetic sense is probably more suited to pret but the gold segment of her collection was unforgivably dull. A flowy, feminine and romantic fabric such as chiffons and nets were used in a diverse palette with beaten gold infused with a variety of colours. The

collection titled “The Great Mutiny’ showed his potential for doing justice to couture. His opening sequence using off-white cottons was simply inspired. Muted palate, elegant silhouettes and delicate embroidery were excellent. The collection symbolized romance and elegance of an aristocratic era.Theprinted scarves wrapped around the male models lookedvery trendy. There were many stunning outfits in the collection and these would have shone brighter if Fahad had dropped some of the weaker pieces. For his collection, exclusive make up looks were created by L’Oréal Paris in collaboration with Maram&Aabroo and Toni&Guy – Lahore.

MishaLakhni

MishaLakhni came up with a strong collection titledentitled ‘Bohemian heiresses’. The collection was bang of trend with sheer net, nude and taupe tones mixed with pop of colours. The colour scheme she used was very impressive. The collection was inspired by a journey

RUNWAY much. I would say her collection wasn’t up to the standard. It was more of bland and nothing to catch the attention.

Ali Xeeshan

Ali Xeeshan closed the show with his collection Jaageer - Royal Deluxe Bridal ‘13’. Aliproved the mastery by captivating the audience with his perfection. He knows how to entertain the audience. The collectionwas hit with an antiquity of the riches

of the designer through Ottoman Turkey, its threads of culture, 17thcentury old Indian romanticism. The young designer managed to strike between embellishment and artistry which gave reflection of a very confident aesthetic. Over all the collection was sophisticated, elegant and delicately gorgeous. I would say it as one of the best shows of PLBW.

The final day opened with early evening bridal showcased byZara Shahjahan and SAAI by SaharAtif followed by late evening shows with collections from Nomi Ansari, Asifa&Nabeel and Sana Safinaz with the evening’s finale presented by the coveted House of KamiarRokni.

Zara Shahjahan:

Zara Shahjahan began the early evening show. It was her debut with collection titled ‘‘True Love’. The collection was inspired from the modern woman who remains close to her sub-continental ethnic roots. The collection consisted of dark colours echoing femininity, elegance, and beauty. Zara’s collection epitomised her fresh and experimental approach to fashion design. The efforts she put in her collection with beautiful embellishments and a honeycomb pattern border can be clearly seen. Over all the collection was eye catching and appealing.

Sonia Azhar

Sonia Azhar was next up showcasing her ‘Divine Unison’ collection. She used a lot of props. Butterfly wings caught the attention but darkness ruled her clothes. She laid great emphasis on the beauty of women and her elegance. Structured cuts, varied lengths, lesser volume and

and goods, with ethereal techniques and melodic cuts representing the finesse and feel of royalty. For Ali Bridal Week was just not a platform to flaunt talents but an opportunity to showcase the breadth of his work. The collection showcased both women’s wear and menswear ensembles with amazing presentation. The collection surely had the woo factor. It was a hit and we loved the creativity and theatrics that he brings with him on the ramp. Humaima Malik walked for Ali Xeeshan as a show stopper and dazzled the ramp with her beauty and style and literally stole the show!

The designer duo Sana Safina’sbrought the collection of traditional ensembles, with a twist. The collection was designed on tissue, kumkabh, net, silk chiffon, swarovski crystal, kora and dapka. First it did not appeal a lot because of black colour which did not create any magic or spark. Later on the collection was able to catch up with their reputation as they successfully pulled off white and black in bridals with intricate embellishments. The night closed with the House of KamiarRokni with the glamorous grand finale. What a grand finale it was! Collection titled ‘The Orientalist’ and as the name suggested, the collection was inspired by the glory and fascination that captivated the West when they first encountered the exotic East. The collection was a package of art, culture and imagination with each creation a celebration of the merging and blending of creative art and heritage from around the world. The amount of thought put into the collection was evident. Over all the collection was the stunner of the night like celebrating all the cultures and crafts from around the Globe. Finale with such an amazing collection rocked the night. The renowned jeweller Reama Malik of GOLD created exclusive jewellery for the collection. Each creation drew inspiration from traditional, regional and global embellishments and silhouettes brought them together to form a bridal signature.

s d n e r t 3 l 1 0 a 2 d i W B Br in PL PFDC Loreal Paris Bridal Week is considered to be the trend setter of our couture industry. This year expectation was very high but few of the designers could meet them. When the creativity of the designer appears on ramp, that pieces absorbed into mindset and it becomes a trends. Let’s have a look what trends PLBW brought this year:

Cholies Cholies with ghararas and lehengas were seen in different collections of the designer. It seems they are inspired from Indian designers. Designers such as Sadaf Malaterre, Ali Xeeshan, Sania Maskatiya, Khadijah Shah and Misha Lakhni. Khadijah Shah tried to employed them at their classic best with full skirts.

Saaries Many designer showcased saries full of embellishments. Most were in antique and metallic gold net, tissue and textured silks. Awe-inspiring versions of the sari lehenga were spotted at SanaSafinaz and Misha Lakhani. Elan worked with delicate detailed pastel drapes. Nomi Ansari and Sadaf Malaterre opted for beautiful shaded and colour blocked version. Asifa & Nabeel attached short jacket blouse paired with a minimalist white sari. EBUZZ

Jackets Designers like Fahad Hussayn, Kamiar Rokni, Sania Maskatiya, SanaSafinaz, Misha Lakhani, Ali Xeeshan and Asifa & Nabeel involved bolero vests, collared blazers, longs sherwani capes and poncho jackets over saris, lehengas, and kurtas. We can say it a perfect addition in the outfits.

Floral Embellishments Floral embroideries were also used in the collection. Zara Shahjahan presented floral-printed lehengas, cholis, kurtas. Also Sania Maskatiya, Fahad Hussayun, Kamiar Rokni and Deena Rehman are in the list who used floral embroideries.

Shararas It was good to see that shararas has come back in fashion. Almost this trend was seen in many collections. Designers presented many outfits with Shararas along with cholis, short kurtis and capes. Sana Safinaz, Sania Makatiya, Elan, Asifa and Nabeel, are on the top of the list.

Golden shades One of the most popular colour which was seen on ramp was golden. A multitude of rich gold-shaded painted fabrics in tissue, net, brocade, and penetrated embellishments in gota, zardozi, mukesh, metallic sequins, and threadworks. Every designer used this shade.

Black in bridal collection When we talk about the colours in bridal, black is not so much inn and liked by all. This time black was much seemed on ramp. Sana Safinaz focused on black besides this Aisfa and Nabeel, Deena Reham, Sonia Azhar also used black in their collection which did not appeal much.

Deep Blue Colour Deep blue colour was the choice at many of the showcases infusing a sense of royalty and majesty into the bridal ensembles. This trend was spotted in Fahad Hussayn, HSY, Misha Lakhani, Elan, Asifa & Nabeel, and Zara Shahjahan collection. www.ebuzztoday.com

Shows: The shows which are on hit list includes few designer such as HSY, Elan, Ali Xeeshan, Misha Lakhni, Fahad Hussyun, Nomi Ansari and The house of Kamir Rokhni. Reema’s walks: For a while we though Reema is failed to handle her dress and could not walk. No doubt she had difficulty in walking on ramp due to high heel and heavy dress but her confident deserves highly appreciation. The way she took off her shoe in her hand and raised it in air, was her great attitude without caring anyone. dizzling Humaima Malik’s apperance: The finale of Day 2 rocked with

Humima Malik when she walked for Ali Xeeshan. The song “Aik Do Teen’ excites the mood of all the viewers. The gestures Humima gave along with the song was a hit. misses Stage Decor: The stage was not made according to the bridal theme. Either it wasn’t attractive. I would say it was nothing. Just lightly decorated with artificial flowers and black colour was not going well at all with the bridal event. Venue: The venue was not good at all. The hall where event took place was Crystal hall which was no doubt a big hall but for a big fashion show the space was very congested for all the people. The people got irritated and started misbehaving with the bouncers who were checking the people

entering. Delays in show: There were too much delays in the show. We all know that fashion show cant be start on time but this event was much late from time. After completing first half of the show, 45 mints break they had to need for the preparation of next show which made people bore because they had to wait outside of the hall if they stepped out from the lounge. Most of the people left second show of Day 1 due to the long delays. On Day 2 same thing happened, the show which was supposed to be start at 4.00 was started at 7.00. www.ebuzztoday.com

A damage double-whammy: Hair is weakest when it’s wet, and wet hair is more prone to tangling. To prevent showerinduced snarls, give your hair a brush before hopping in. If you like to comb in the shower, apply conditioner, untangle strands with your fingers, then use a wide-toothed comb before rinsing.

2 Brushing the ends only

You have heard that brushing too much causes breakage, but your scalp’s natural oils are one of the best conditioners out there. Massage your scalp with a wooden-bristle brush like Widu to stimulate circulation and hair growth and brush from roots to ends to add luster naturally.

3 Being a clean freak

Most heads of hair don’t benefit from daily washing. Chronic washing strips your scalp of healthy oils, leaving your hair lackluster and lifeless. By all means, shower daily, but if you don’t use a ton of styling products, try just rinsing hair with water or using a light, volumizing conditioner every other day.

4 Haphazard conditioning

We have heard to condition

www.ebuzztoday.com

only the ends to prevent flat, weighed-down tresses, but finehaired gals should condition their roots as well since their hair is more susceptible to breakage. Over conditioning is another common snafu. Use just enough to untangle snags and save serious slathering for a once-a-week deep treatment. No matter how you condition, be sure to rinse until the water runs clear and use a clarifying shampoo from time to time to prevent residue build-up.

5 Intense towel drying

Most styling products direct you to use them on towel-dried hair, but rubbing hair too much will roughen up the cuticle, leading to dull hair, frizz, and breakage. Blot hair with a towel and shake out the strands with your fingers. Your hair will take longer to dry, but it will be healthier in the long run.

6 Skipping heat protection

We all know that heat is one of the most damaging elements to hair. But if you don’t want to live without blow-drying, curling, or flattening, always, always use a heat-protective aid to shield strands and smooth cuticles. Before blow-drying, let hair air dry until just damp (use your fingers to shake out hair to speed the process) and opt for the warm setting instead of hot to avoid habitual heat damage.

7 Using hot Irons on damp hair

Wet hair and hot tools don’t mix. Curling and flat irons can burn the follicles of damp strands, leading to weak and broken tresses. Hair should be completely dry before heat styling, period. Even when you are in a rush.

8 Using hairspray before styling

Ever hear a sizzle when curling or straightening hair that has hairspray in it? Alcohols in hairspray burn on contact with heat. Always use hairspray after curling or ironing.

9 Teasing with abandon

For the occasional va-va-voom, back-combing hair toward the root to amp up volume is a celebrated trick. But teasing regularly will damage hair cuticles and lead to breakage.

10 Thinking you can mend split ends

Sorry ladies: Once hair has split at the ends, there’s no product that can mend it. The only solution for split ends is to prevent them in the first place (e.g. avoiding over-washing, rigorous towel drying, and abusing heat tools) or to get a trim.

in February 2009 and since then never looked back and I feel so blessed that I’m doing what I always wanted to do. I had few heirlooms which my mother had. Starting with the few remaining aged embroiderers from Delhi and Pakistan, I had learnt their skills as young apprentices in the last vestiges of the Indian courtly tradition. I attempted to curate heirlooms- only to discover, much to his dismay that many of the stitches, methods and even raw materials had already been lost and so began the journey that has made him one of the foremost centers of expertise for intricate hand embroidery anywhere in the world. Q: Tell us about the specialty of Kosain Kazmi designs? What is your work philosophy? Global clothing with Pakistani soul. I was always inspired by traditional creations of his Grand mother like Farshi Ghararas, Lakhnawi Ghurlas, Angrakhas, 6 yards of Dupattas etc. From an early age he was drawn to the art of craftsmanship, an obsession that continues to date. Kosain Kazmi creations stand for classic silhouettes, wonderful textiles and a great sensitivity to handicrafts. The themes of his collections reflect an affinity with Mughal era—architecture, jewellary, outfits, fabrics, Islamic calligraphy, and the heritage of central Asia. this cultural tradition has been a driving passion for me. My ambition, then, as now is to systematically reintroduce these skills in our workshops and disseminate them to a newer generation; simultaneously developing the aesthetic knowledge through extensive research, to intertwine them into complete, relevant and modern pieces. Q: What is the driving force behind your success? My passion. Behind every business, whether large or small, there is one passionate, determined, inspirational driving force. Someone who believes in the business and what it does, and will not rest until the company is successful. One of the most powerful ways to support your passion is with proper planning. There are many phases of planning necessary for businesses. Even if you don’t write a formal business plan, you still need a plan that outlines where you are right now, where you plan to go and how you intend to get there. In order to make any new business a success, you need to commit to continually improving your skills and experiences so you are consistently moving forward and growing your passion. hour with her in the morning. Q: What inspires you to bring unconventional and traditions cuts in the market? Mughal Era. Mughal Era have been a lifelong inspiration for me who believes that clothes should just be an extension of one’s intellect. I try to use unusual fabrics, texturing and detailing, ‘fusion’ of styles ‘patchworked’ with gorgeous embellishments in a vibrant eclectic colour palette to make the feeling of going back to the ancient and medieval ages. I describe my collections as ‘an International styling with a Pakistani soul’. Q: Can you describe the process of inspiration to execution? Normally first week of every month is reserved just for sketching, me and my team come up with new ideas and then we finalize colors, cuts and then proceed to the production. It’s a continuous procedure, when you deal in Pret, you need to be on your toes all the time. You need to come-up with new prints, cuts, colors, new techniques of embroideries and embellishments so people can feel difference and change in your work. The research and development department is constantly given targets to be in line with world trends and above our competitors. Q: With what colours you mostly like to play ? I Love rich colors, like fuchsia, emerald green, different shades of red and purple, I love to play with colors, we are using lot of pestle colors peach, pink, ivories, gold for our upcoming bridal collection. Q: What does couture mean to EBUZZ

you and what kind of clothes you enjoy making ? Couture is getting repetitive these days. For me, couture means, something exclusively designed for an individual according to his/her taste. I enjoy making every kind of outfit but off course, when customer trusts us and as a design house, trust our suggestions. Q: What parameters you keep in mind when you design clothes? For Pret - Choice of fabrics, embellishment and wearable cuts with affordable prices. For Bridals - Customer’s figure and height and what she wants to wear, then we suggest cuts, amount of embellishment etc. We suggest colors according to the occasion. Q: How would you describe your perfect client ? We always welcome customer’s suggestions but if a customer listens to us as well, it helps us alot in sketching or creating an outfit from scratch. To convince my customer to go traditional Right now, the customer is trying to be traditional; yet they are lured by the West. They need to understand that they are customers of a national identity, first. Once that’s done, everything else will fall into place. Q: Tell us about recent projects you are working on? Do you have any collection in your pipeline? We are launching our digitally printed Silk collection this month. We will be launching our Lawn next year. We have been dealing in stitched lawn collection in 2011 but in 2014, we will be launching our unstitched lawn in affordable price range.

Q: Is there any plan to participate in upcoming fashion weeks? Yes! I will be participating in upcoming BCW 2013. Q: In your view what Pakistani fashion industry lacks and what changes should be made to make it better? As soon as a design house comes up with a new idea or cut, everybody starts copying them, taking inspiration fine but copying work as is cant justifies you as a designer. Q: What do you think was your best creation? Outfits I designed for sister’s wedding. Q: Tell us about your interest besides designing? I hardly get time for anything else during the business days. Saturdays are getting more hectic for us as mostly out of town customers visit us on weekends. But I love to travel whenever I get a chance and I enjoy food. Q: From where we can find the designs of Kosain Kazmi? Where do you stock? Our Bridal Studio is in Lahore and KS, USA. We’re stocking at different Multi brand stores nationwide. Q: Where do you see your self as a designer in next 5 years? We want to open outlets in different cities of Pakistan and abroad. Q: One thing you hate about fashion industry? Gossip! Q: What is the quality you most like in women? How they carry themselves. Q: What is your greatest extravagance? Perfumes! www.ebuzztoday.com

MOVIE REVIEW By Faizan Hussain

The recently released movie Waar has proved once again that Pakistani nation has the capacity to do wonder in every field. It is an action movie dealing with the menace of terrorism which Pakistan is facing for more than a decade.

Revival of nationalism I t shows the different aspects of extremists and how they are funded by foreign countries to destabilise Pakistan. It also highlights the valour of our security forces, which are protecting the country and working day and night to counter the nefarious designs of our enemies. The first thing that comes to mind after reading about the movie name is that the flick is likely to be Urdu. Surprisingly the film is 90 percent

English while the 10 percent is Urdu for the terrorists shown in the film. The producer probably wanted the film for international audiences. The actors’ dialogue delivery in English was excellent. The underrated Qayyas provides an exceptional heavy metal soundtrack for the film and Umair Jaswal’s vocals take your breath away in a scene when the special operations team is practising the walk-in-fire technique. The story is predictable but the movie is gripping and does not

MOVIE REVIEW

Movie: Waar Directed by: Bilal Lashari Written by: Hassan Waqas Produced by: Hassan Waqas Rana, Omer Manzoor Released by: Mandviwalla Entertainment and ARY Films Cast: Shaan Shahid (as Mujtaba) Meesha Shafi (as Zoya) Ali Azmat (as Ejaz Khan) Shamoon Abbasi (as Ramal) Ayesha Khan (as Javeria) Hamza Abbasi (as Ehtasham)

bore you. The movie tells the story of a retired Major Mujtaba who had served in countering the menace of terrorism. Though honoured with top medals of the country for his bravery and services he is a shadowy figure, whose record and whereabouts were kept secret by the state. He spent a very successful career in nabbing the top most terrorists and removing potential threats to the country. He also became the victim of terrorists’ enmity and his family was killed. The security forces ask for his help against a dangerous terrorist and assasian Ramal (an Indian RAW agent) who enters Pakistan with plans of great destruction. Major Mujtaba is assisted by anti-terrorism team mainly Javeria who works for FIA and her brother Ehtasham who is expert in field operations. The other main characters are Ejaz Khan who is a sincere politician and wants to do something for his nation. He talks about the positive change in Pakistan but is assassinated by Ramal, who has teamed up with extremist Taliban. Ramal is assisted by a young lady Zoya (a secret agent of India) working in Islamabad as a social worker. She assists Ramal in reaching his targets. All these plans and terrorist activities are countered by our security forces working under Major Mujtaba’s leadership with the help of Pak Army. The movie is full of action and grisly scenes of killing and slaughtering people. It highlights the efforts of Pakistani security forces in their fight against terrorism and how their lives are

www.ebuzztoday.com

affected and how they live burying their sorrows in their hearts. Bilal Lashari has proved his directing skills by casting some of people which do not have a long history of acting like Meesha Shafi, Ali Azmat and Shamoon Abbasi. He left no stone unturned to make this movie a new benchmark for the upcoming movies. The movie has an impressive cinematography and well executed action sequences. All the actors did justice to their roles and proved their acting talent. Shan as usual gets into his character effortlessly. He has given a very remarkable performance with extremely convincing facial expressions. He performed his role not less that any renowned action hero of Hollywood. Ayesha Khan’s role was also according to her flaunting beauty. This is Hamza Abbasi’s second movie and one can easily witness a talented artiste hiding in his personality. The Waar villain Shamoon Abbasi was successful in playing the role of bad guy, who spent chills in the

spines of audience with his cruel modus operandi of killings. The role of Ayesha Khan suited her charming personality. Meesha Shafi was looking good in her role. If any weakness is seen, it is Ali Azmat’s acting. His dialogue delivery as a zealot Pakistani was not that good. Someone else from the fiery lot of new artistes could have done the role better. Only his last scene when he was stabbed to death was close to reality. The movie is an attempt to promote the direly needed nationalism and it stands tall against all the propaganda done against our country in international media and especially in India. It has primarily projected the Pakistani perspective on the menace of terrorism and the involvement of foreign hands in it. It also enlightens the audience that how much our army and the official of security forces suffer in this war. The movie with all its hype was able to lure people to cinemas. It did business of more than Rs 126 million at the box office in

Kanwal Kanwal Ilyas utterly outrageous fashion diva who is a perfect package of grace, glamour and beauty. She is young, super talented and very passionate towards her work. She graduated from PUCAD College Lahore in painting and later did a multimedia course in video production from NCA College from Lahore.

his hottie loves to paint and dance in her free time.Kanwal easily steals the attention whenever she steps on the ramp with her charismatic personality and elegance. She is looking forward to many international projects and has a long way to go! In an exclusive interview with Ebuzz Kanwal shared her experience throughout her journey, her upcoming ventures and a lot more. Here are the excerpts. Q: When did you realise that modelling was made for you and how did you pursue your career in modelling? I never had a plan to be a model...all I can say it was a coincident! And then I got the projects one by one as everybody liked my work then I realize it was made for me and then things went on quite smoothly. Q: How has your journey been so far and what have you learned from the industry? So far it has been good in a sense that I love my work and I really enjoy every project work on …. I have learned a lot. It’sjust not always about the pretty face but your at-

titude with everyone really matters too. Q: What is your life philosophy? Sleepwell, eat well, workwell, and go home. Q: Who has been your inspiration throughout life? If you are talking to the modelling perspective then I watch everyone’s work and their style of working, I learn and pick up the good things and merge them into my style of working … but I do not follow anyone as such. Q: How do you spend your day when you are not working? That is the best day to sleep … I spend time with my family, meet my friends and being a lazy lady. Q: Being a woman does it hinders or progress in the line of your work? Obviously It does, especially women really have to do hard work to be in their line of work and there are a lot of hindrances in fashion industry as u have to meet and work with a lot of different people everyday. So there are different nature and style of working for different people, and I have to deal with them all. Q: What comments do you have on frugal fashion? Everyone deserves to look good. People adopt new trends and style of fashion and apply them according to their budget and convenience. If someone knows how to carry them well then it surely is a plus point. Q: Tell us about your upcoming

projects? There is so much going on, as you know winters are around the corner so there is a lot of work load these days. Fashion week is also coming up and plus that I am looking forward to do something for television as well. Q: Who has been your mentor and who is your muse? My mother has been my mentor and musesince the time I step into profession, and of course my few close friends as well. Q: What are the prerequisites to be a successful model in Pakistan? Your attitude should be positive as well as versatile. One should be hard working and prominent enough so that others can notice you Q: Where do you see yourself in the next five years? Working as a successful model or maybe an actress. To be very honest I never plan for future but I tend to do work hard in my line of work so let’s see where life takes me. Q: What is the best advice you have ever received? “As you stepped in the professional life, there would be so many hurdles that you have to face, never back off” my mother’s advice. Q: Describe yourself in three words? Honest, straightforward and shy. Q: If you had to change something about yourself, what would it be? www.ebuzztoday.com

Ilyas I am very sensitive and go into extreme details, I wish I was like “who care’s” type. Q: Where do you find yourself at ease? On my bed, sleeping. Q: Who is your favourite designer? Donatella Versace from international designers and from Pakistan I really admire HSY and KamiyarRokni. Q: Any fashion faux pas you have done so far? Yes, many times, especially in the beginning of my career for a ramp show I slipped it was embarrassing but I learned from my mistakes. Q: What is your guilty pleasure? As I mention earlierI am shy by nature, bit I am expressive too. I love to dance I think that might be my guilty pleasure! Q: What is the best thing about modelling? Flipside what is worst? Well, for me modelling is my passionand I try to give it the desired priority and time. I enjoy the most at my work. Worst you can say in this glamorous side of fashion industry is no one can see who you really are as a person and everyone treats you at same level. Q: Words of wisdom for our readers. 1. Green Beans

Filling up on green beans, and other high-fiber foods, can help you prevent weight gain or even promote weight loss—without dieting—suggests new research in The Journal of Nutrition. Researchers found that women who increased their fiber intake generally lost weight while women who decreased the fiber in their diets gained. The scientists boiled the findings into a single weight-loss formula: boosting fiber by 8 grams for every 1,000 calories consumed resulted in losing about 4 1/2 pounds over the course of the study. Try it for yourself. If you’re consuming 2,000 calories per day, aim to increase your fiber by 16 grams. Raspberries, chickpeas and strawberries can also help you get your fill.

2. Salmon

The omega-3 fatty acids in oily fish—such as salmon and tuna— can boost your skin’s defenses against UV damage. In a study published earlier this year in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, researchers found that those who ate a little more than 5 ounces of omega-3-rich fish each week decreased the development of precancerous skin lesions by almost 30 percent. Scientists think the omega-3s act as a shield, protecting cell walls from free-radical damage.

3. Blueberries

Eating just under a cup of mixed berries (such as red raspberries, strawberries, blueberries) daily for 8 weeks was associated with increased levels of “good” HDL cholesterol and lowered blood pressure—two positives when it comes to heart health— according to a recent study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. The diverse range of polyphenols— health-promoting plant compounds that include anthocyanin’s and elegiac acid—provided by the mix of berries is likely responsible for the observed benefits.

4. Watermelon

4 2

Research shows that eating foods that are full of water, such as watermelon, helps keep you satisfied on fewer calories. (Interestingly enough, drinking water alongside foods doesn’t have the safe effect.) At 92 percent water, watermelon is a good source of vitamin C. When it’s the red variety (some are orange or yellow), it also has lycopene, an antioxidant that may help protect against heart disease and some types of cancer. Other foods that are made mostly of water include cucumbers (95 percent), salad greens (90 percent) and strawberries (91 percent).

5. Tomatoes

Eating more vitamin-C rich foods, such as oranges, tomatoes, strawberries and broccoli, may be a secret to smoother skin. Research in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition links consuming plenty of vitamin C-rich foods with youthful skin. The findings suggest that a higher intake of vitamin C from foods is associated with a lower risk of having wrinkled skin and age-related skin dryness in middle-age women. Vitamin C’s youthful effects on skin may be due to its antioxidant properties, which help protect against ultraviolet rays, and its role in keeping skin firm via collagen synthesis, say the researchers. www.ebuzztoday.com

Hanging like a tear-drop from the southern tip of India, Sri Lanka is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Ringed by a necklace of palm-fringed beaches, its mountainous interior rears up in a jungle hinterland roamed by elephant and leopard, rising finally to the cool highlands that grow the country’s famous tea. Amidst all this there’s culture too. Overwhelmingly Buddhist, Sri Lankans practice their gentle beliefs with a lavish enthusiasm. There are thronged temples and sacred relics, religious festivals and extravagant sacraments, at their most spectacular in the holy city of Kandy, home to the Buddha’s tooth. History lives on in the steep, lushly forested hills. This is where you’ll find the mighty rock-top fortress of Sigiriya and a cluster of historic towns, including Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa. The colonial era brought tea-planting on a massive scale to Sri Lanka’s cool highlands. You can visit the bungalows of early British settlers as they sit amongst seas of tea-plants, watch pickers at work and factories in action. Walk the streets of Nuwara Eliya and think Ascot, with timber-framed buildings, G&Ts at members’ clubs and even a horse-racing track. European cultures blend in the southern city of Galle, with Portuguese and Dutch elements in this fortified outpost overlooking the Indian Ocean. To see leopard and elephant in the wild there

Skilled guides point out the smaller wonders: a huge variety of birdlife and brightly-colored jungle butterflies. Last, but not least, there are beaches galore. Pick your beach to suit the season and your taste. There are quiet beaches while others catch great surfing waves. For a beach experience true to local life head to the south, where fishermen perch on stilts dug into the sand, casting lines into the ocean for their daily meal.

ebuzztoday recommends: 1.Visit the ‘Temple of the Tooth’. Wars have been fought over this relic, which is housed in a teeming temple complex in Kandy. Join the devout to add your own petal offerings and light votive candles 2.Spot Leopard in Yala. Sri Lanka’s alpha predator is protected in a number of naEBUZZ

tional parks, but is most easily sighted in Yala, on the island’s southern coast, where you can cool off in the ocean after a day on safari 3.Take Tea in Nuwara Eliya. At the heart of Sri Lanka’s tea industry, this charming throwback to the country’s colonial years is rich with the heritage of home-county England. Tour neatly-terraced tea estates, watch pickers at work, and buy your own samples to take home 4.Take a Train. Sri Lanka’s roads are pretty but twisty and slow. Rail is less stressful. The most beautiful route is from Colombo on the coast to Nuwara Eliya in the highlands, chugging its way past spectacular scenes 5.Climb Sigiriya. One of Sri Lanka’s seven World Heritage Sites, this rock-top fortress dates back to the 5th Century AD. The atmosphere is more devout than war-like: in its time it has acted as royal palace and Buddhist monastery 6.Take a Hike. Plenty of Sri Lanka

travels at walking pace, and it’s a great way to settle in. The most popular treks are around the Knuckles Range but take a guide - it’s easy to get lost 7.Meet Elephant Orphans. Every day 80 orphaned elephants leave Pinnawala for their daily drink and river bath. Restaurants line the riverfront to take advantage of the view. If you’d like to ride or wash elephants there are plenty of private camps nearby Train from Colombo to Nuwara Eliya
