HIGHLIGHTS

OF 2013

1 Reema walked in PFDC Loreal Paris Bridal Week for HSY. For a while we thought Lollywood star failed to walk with high heel but sticking to confidence she took off her sandals in her hand and raised it in air. Becoming the headline and new story of entertainment industry she got a lot of applause and appreciation for her walk and confidence. 2 Sunsilk PFDC and Fashion Pakistan Week showed much inclination towards more westernised pret wear than ever. The cuts, designs and even the spiky embellishments made way for what the western fashion industry has experimented with for years. 3 If you think ramp and catwalk are for women only, then think again. 2013 saw first-ever Men’s Fashion Show, which showcased creations from around ten menswear designers from Karachi and Lahore. 4 In PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week, several Pakistani designers displayed their vibrantly toned voile collections. Fashion talents Zonia Anwaar, Nida Azwer and Layla Chatoor mesmerised the onlookers with their floral and animal motif adorned western designs such as dresses with high hemlines, jumpsuits, pants and blouses. 5 Talking about trends, 2013 was the year of digital prints. Designers like Nida Azwer, Sheela Chatoor, Ayesha Somaya, Nadia

Elhai we saw digital prints. 6 The outfits which were showcased at fashion weeks were a treat to eye but the backdrops and ramp disappointed many people. The ramp themes were not according to the theme of fashion week nights. One of the example we can say of Pantene Bridal Couture Week Lahore as the concept of the ramp was confusing. Traditional outfits were being showcased on Italian theme runway also the focus of the lighting was around the ramp in order to illuminate the outfits and highlight the cuts. 7 Coming to towards shopping, 2013 witnessed many outlets, flagship stores and multi brand stores opening in Karachi and Lahore. Such as Nida Azwer, Sania Maskatiya, Zara Shahjahan, Sonia Battla opened their stores. Sana Safinas opened their third outlet in Karachi. Deepak Perwani also launched his fourth flagship in Karachi. In multi brand store, fashion central, Showstopper and karmik were launched. Fahad Hussayun also opened his outlet

in Lahore which turned up to be a big flop and eventually got closed very soon. 8 Many Pakistani fashion designers got chance to showcase their collections at international level. Designers like Nida Azwer, Sania Masktaiya, HSY, Kamir Rokhni, Layla Chatoor, Fahad Hussyan, Maheen Khan, Ayesha F.Haswani showed their collection at different exhibitions and runways.

TOP FASHION TRENDS OF

1 Youthful/ impact prints like girly hearts, frivolous stars and even childhood characters would be in! 2 Oversized shoulders, and bold bright are going to be big this year! 3 Snap out of your stupor and replace your choridar with tailored pencil cut ankle length trousers. Attention to shape is crucial! 4 Resist your temptation for lawns this year! Don’t go overboard to be a part of lawn brigade. Too much of these prints don’t really make sense. Try experimenting your own designs! 5 Jumpsuits are here to stay for a while! 6 Try a new micro trend by cuffing up your jeans just a few inches higher and pairing them with extra pointed toe stilettos, platform pumps or booties. 7 Say yes to short and midi lengths! 8 Sleeker cuts will be inn in this year. It is an exciting time for designers to rethink how they can reinvent their styles into cuts which would be appealing to all patrons. 9 Say yes to leather by purchasing a pair of leather skinny pants or tights! 10 Keep it quirky and vintage when it comes to accessories!

Sania Masktiaya:

In 2013 Sania Masktiaya was on high. She showcased her new collection in PFW, PFDC which was a massive hit. Sania showcased her couture collection as a debut in Loreal Paris Bridal Week. Her collection was experimental and some pieces did not do any justice to the bridal side and looked like a mundane showcase of too bright for a formal collection. However her lawn for Sapphire Textiles was one of this year’s most popular designer lawn collections. This year also saw two new Sania Maskatiya retail outlets, one in Lahore and one in Dolmen Mall, Clifton and her Karachi flagship store in Defence.

Elan:

Without any doubt, Elan was at its absolute best. It showcased its talent at Sunsilk PFDC and Loreal Paris Bridal Week both. Khadija Shah outshined in both Pret and Couture. Elegant, intricate and much-copied, Élan’s outfits still sold like hot cakes.

OF 2013

With PLBW 2013, Deena marks the debut of her eponymous Label & from what we have seen so far. The collection is quite impressive. Her outfits started off as a strong conventional outlook on bridals but soon lost its charm as the clothes became painfully simple and too old to have made any impact.

The king of colour Nomi Ansari played with maze of colours very safely that it appeared in a single ensemble without making it appear busy or garish. 2 Exfoliate:

Exfoliation is the removal of the dry skin which resolves most of our skin problems too. Dull complexion, blemishes, pigmentation, uneven skin tone, wrinkles; clogged pores are one of the many problems which are cured with exfoliation. Exfoliate once in a week at least. Market is full with face and body scrubs but a good scrub is one which feels gentle on your skin. For daily exfoliation, face wash and body wash are also available in the market.

3 Moisturize:

Keeping our skin moisturized and hydrated is another most important thing in winter. Apply a good oil based moisturizer after taking shower when our skin is damp and cab absorb the product really well. Moisturize the skin before going to bed.

TIPS

FOR THE winter

Summers routine can be simple, using a good oil-free face wash can be enough for the whole season. But winter is not about just one thing. Our skin needs more care and love in winter than any other season. Extra care in winter can add more freshness to the skin which then last for next whole year. In market we have many brands offering winter regime products. It’s not about getting expensive products but to get the right product. Home treatments work great too, at least for me.!! There is some less doubt and side effect in home remedies. Follow and take care of the following points in winters.

1 Less Shower:

Yes, we need to shower less in winters. Shower sucks oil in body and in winter this can lead to severe dryness. Shower once a day with lukewarm water is enough.

EBUZZ

34

december, 2013

4 Cover:

Cover your hands and feet as much as you can as it protects the skin from the dry air. At night make a routine to wear socks and gloves after applying moisturizer; this will keep them soft and moist for whole night.

5 Drink healthy:

We don’t feel thirsty in winters but needs hot drinks to keep us warm. Coffees, hot chocolates are winters drink but the citrus drinks, herbal drinks are most important for healthy skin.

6 Eat Healthy:

Oils and fats are always dangerous for our health and skin independent of the weather. Eating fresh vegetables adds glow to our skin and protect us from dryness. Fresh vegetables, salads, soups, oat meals are the best picks in winter.

Chilly breeze, ice cold water, little sunshine and fog everywhere. Yes, we are talking about winters. People love winters, not all of them but mostly do. The trends and cuts winter brings along have no match at all. Getting stuffed with jackets, hoods, sweaters and blazers of all types with latest trends is esteemed by everyone. Every new season brings new trends and fashion based on particular theme or colors or cuts. People follow those trends to look trendy and up-to-date. As season change fashion and trends also change. The latest fashion trends for the upcoming fall and winter season 2013 appears to be ripe with fabulous floral prints. When I researched back into the history of floral print, I found that Hollywood legend Lana Turner was a lover of the style; I believe that Lana Turner may have been a key influencer when the print became increasingly popular in the 70s. Floral prints are back this season. By cleverly mixing and matching clothing and accessories designed with various patterns and prints there are a plethora of smart looks that can be inspired, as well as

eyecatching and fashion forward outfits. Combining clothes and accessories that have various prints and patterns can be fun. Patterns make a strong statement in your wardrobe so if you are wondering how to wear prints stylishly this season you need not to worry about because we have the homework for you. It’s all about head to toe look right now, if you want to wear different printed pieces, just keep in mind some form of continuity going on.

trends

Everything’s coming up roses and daffodils, and orchids, and daisies for this season — head to toe floral prints are all over the runways. If you are a true fashionista, I am sure you already have a few floral pieces. There are various styles on the high street at the moment! From delicate and feminine prints to the bolder and brighter floral prints, this season floral prints are the key dominating trends. It’s up to you with how floral you want to go! You can choose from bright feminine floral prints to the bolder floral prints. There’s a floral print for everyone you can try a printed pair of pants, dresses, skirts and everything

that you can put a flower on. So if you want to be bang on trend this season invest in floral print. Bold prints and bright colors are making a huge comeback in the fashion world, and these wonderfully extravagant floral fashions are making use of this resurgence to bring beautifully eye-catching floral designs back to mainstream couture. www.ebuzztoday.com

From mesmerizing floral-detailed dresses to floral printed accessories these lovely pieces of floral fashion creativity express bold patterns & colors and hence serve to make a fashion statement. Floral dresses, skirts, blouses, shorts pants, hats and even sandals – all in a vivid array of colors such as yellow, turquoise, pink and red are making their way not just to the fashion events but also to wardrobe of many fashionholics. Pick one simple element ... it could be a color or a print, for instance you could buy a floral blouse or a floral top and wear it with skinny jeans ... Or try buying a pretty summer dress and put it with a blazer in a pastel color or a tulle skirt . You get fashion victims who put every look from the catwalk together in one look -- find the pieces that suit you and make you feel fashionable and stylish. The catch-all phrase of the season is femininity. It is floral-inspired, tropical-inspired, ethnicinspired, artist-inspired and scarf-inspired and usually is seen in a dress, a pair of pants, and an underscore skirt and in colors that range from pale pastels to shocking neon and vivid yellows.

Rendezvous By MISHAL MANZOOR

THE QUEEN OF PRÊT Nida Azwer has been designing and working in fashion under the aegis of her eponymous label since 2005, only one month after she graduated from the prestigious Indus Valley School of Art & Architecture. Her label includes a Prêt a Porter line, Haute Couture and Bridal lines. Nida herself was nominated for the coveted Lux Style Award for Best Emerging Talent in 2008 and won the Best Designer Award at the Nesvita Women of Strength Awards in 2009. The same year Nida held her debut solo show in Karachi, featuring both prêt a porter and haute couture to the acclaim of press and industry stalwart alike. Nida Azwer’s atelier has come to be recognized for the designers’ love of more classic and vintage design elements infused with traditional crafts such as ‘tukri ka kaam’, ‘rilli’, ‘kantha’, ‘zardozi’ and ‘miniature embroidery’ worked into contemporary fashion. Indeed all clothing and apparel created under the Nida Azwer label is meticulously hand worked in Pakistan using only pure fabrics including Irish linen, chiffons, handwoven silks and brocade. The atelier is best known for infusing designs with attention to detail, innovative cuts, silhouettes and tailoring. 2012 was a busy year for the label which presented a semi-formal collection titled “Parinda” at Showcase 2012 and launched a new prêt line “The White Label” in April of the same year. In May 2012, Nida Azwer also held her first solo exhibition in Lahore to much acclaim. In 2013, the Nida Azwer design label made a series of firsts with the introduction of their debut lawn collection in March and the launch of the brand’s first standalone stores in Lahore and Karachi in May 2013. A regular participant at all major fashion events, Nida Azwer showcased at the 6th PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week in April 2013 with “The William Morgan & Morris Collection”. Foods for Healthy Skin

Wondering what to eat and what to smooth on? These skin-saving foods help both ways.

Here’s a beautiful reason to stop by the supermarket today: Certain foods have powerhouse ingredients that keep skin supple and smooth and help fight age-related damage. Wondering what to eat and what to smooth on? These skin-saving foods help both ways.

1

1. Strawberries

Strawberries have more antiaging vitamin C per serving than oranges or grapefruit. And research shows that people who eat foods rich in vitamin C have fewer wrinkles and less age-related dry skin than those who don’t. Vitamin C fights free radicals, which damage cells and break down collagen, leading to fine lines. For smoother, betterhydrated skin, apply a natural berry mask once or twice a week. Sip it or smooth it on: In a food processor or blender, combine 1 cup frozen or fresh strawberries (or a mix of strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries—they’re all antioxidant stars). Stir together blended berries, 1 cup vanilla or plain yogurt, and 1 1/2 tablespoons honey (a great moisturizer) in

an 8-ounce glass. Enjoy smoothie, setting aside enough to coat your face. Apply remaining smoothie to your face over a sink (it’s a little drippy at first, but a smooth layer will stay put), and leave it on for about 8 minutes before rinsing off. minutes.

2. Olive oil The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of olive oil don’t just benefit you on the inside— they soften your skin, too. When used topically, olive oil results in smoother, more radiant skin. Plus, consuming olive oil, a staple in the

healthy Mediterranean diet, provides antioxidants to disarm free radicals and reduce inflammation. In addition to working olive oil into your daily diet, apply as a lip gloss and skin soother, as needed. If you have dry skin, you’ll particularly benefit from topical application.

4

Health

Eat it or wear it: At dinner, drizzle a few tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil into a small bowl, and dip wholegrain bread in it to improve your skin from the inside out. Dab a pea-size amount of extra-virgin olive oil on lips to hydrate a parched pucker; or use it on rough patches (think elbows and heels), as needed.

3. Green tea Curling up to a cup of green tea does a lot more than relax you. Green tea

3

4. Pumpkin Pumpkin’s orange hue is from carotenoids, wrinkle-fighting plant pigments that help neutralize free radicals in the skin, keeping them from damaging the cells that fast-forward aging. Pumpkin is filled with vitamins C, E, and A, as well as powerful enzymes that help to cleanse the skin. Although the seeds make a great fiber-filled snack, you get the skin-saving antioxidants from the pulp. Eat it or smooth it on: In a food processor or blender, combine 2 cups canned pumpkin, 4 tablespoons low-fat vanilla yogurt, 4 tablespoons honey, and 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice. Coat face; leave on for 10 minutes, then rinse. It’s good for hydrating and softening skin.

5. Pomegranate Pomegranates are one of the most antioxidantrich fruits. Research shows this fruit’s juice has more inflammation-fighting antioxidants than red wine or green tea. Eat some fresh pomegranate or use it in an age-fighting scrub.

is filled with inflammation-fighting antioxidants, drinking green tea may reduce your risk of skin cancer. And when you add a generous squeeze of citrus juice, the tea’s antioxidants get a boost of staying power, so they remain in and benefit the body longer, rather than being digested quickly and having much of the goodness go down the drain. Drink it or press it on: Sip at least three big mugs of green tea every day for an antioxidant boost, Chill damp tea bags in the fridge and put on eyes for 10–15 minutes. Green tea contains tannins, which act as an astringent when applied to skin and can help reduce puffiness.

www.ebuzztoday.com

Eat it or scrub it on: Cut off pomegranate crown, and score rind in sections, without cutting all the way through. Place in a bowl of water for 5–10 minutes. Break rind away from seeds, which will sink; strain seeds. In a food processor, combine 2 tablespoons seeds and 1 cup uncooked oatmeal. Transfer to bowl; stir in 2 tablespoons honey (an antiseptic) and 2 tablespoons buttermilk. Apply to face for a few minutes, then rinse. For rough patches (like elbows), add 3/4 cup turbinado sugar.

Smartwatches

Smartwatches not taking into account the term that connects to the Android OS revolution have been in existence for quite some time. For those of us who were born in the 80’s and have had the chance to use Casio watches would know very well the databank versions of the 90’s and going farther back the calculator wrist watch offered by Casio and some other brands in the 80’s.

rall fashion and have thus added a variety of colors, and styles to their phones. Recently watches have also become an accessory to these smartphones and have been termed as such smartwatches. Currently in the global smart watch market the following brands have the lead; Sony’s SmartWatchII, Samsung’s Galaxy Gear and Pebble. In the stand alone android smartphone watch category there are several Chinese watches but the reviews for them aren’t that good. Recently a company which is launching a state of the art Smartphone Watch is Neptune Pine, currently the smartphone / watch is on pre-order but it has got us at Phonegurureviews.com excited. We have included the specs of the SmartWatch II, Galaxy Gear and Neptune Pine.

I remember watching an Ad on T.V. back in the 90’s, it showed an executive dressed up in business attire and he was in a meeting along with his other colleagues and the boss who was speaking asked for the contact information for one of their clients, here it was shown all the people going through their diaries and notebooks and our executive looks at his watch does a few clicks on it and provides the information sooner than the rest, amazing his fellow colleagues and impressing his boss. Although the idea is considered pretty cliché but today’s standards but in it’s day it was something new. It was the fashion statement of a business executive who was ahead of his game. If you read the previous article in the eBuzz December/ January edition, we touched on how fashion isn’t just about the clothes you wear, it includes your entire outlook; the accessories you wear, your make-up, even the way you carry yourself i.e. your body language. Major brands such as Samsung, Sony, Motorola and LG to name a few have caught up on this idea of ove-

SONY’S SMART WATCH 2 To start off let’s take a brief look at the SmartWatch2 by Sony, it’s first

impression is quite good. It weighs approx 122g making it slightly lighter than some of the mainstream watches. If you’re a regular watch wearer then you won’t notice that much of a difference. Also the device is waterproof and dustproof meaning you won’t have any problems if you get it wet, but please don’t go off scuba diving while wearing it. The screen visibility is pretty good and with the Micro USB port and NFC , charging is not an issue as is the case with the Galaxy gear. On the down side the SmartWatch 2 does not have a speaker or mic, bad news for all of you expecting it to be a “Dick Tracy” watch or to make it a little bit more familiar Michael Knight’s KITT communicator. Also another con to the list is the software application is not that user friendly and can be a drag to install, but once installed it usually works fine except sometimes the touch isn’t registered right away, you’d be thinking its stuck but its actually processing the touch command you gave it.

Samsung Galaxy Gear The Samsung Galaxy Gear is more

powerful as compared to the SmartWatch but if you want power you can’t have looks. It’s not as stylish as the SmartWatch 2 or as light, but it makes up for it in user friendliness, processing power, and better resolution. With 2 mics and a speaker it is the watch to have, if you want to reminisce on the 80’s and Knight Rider . The Super AMOLED screen is a great.

become a real hassle if you forget it, you will most likely find it very difficult to borrow one.

Neptune Pine They say save the best for last and we certainly have, the Neptune Pine although an unknown brand and currently on pre-order is a stand alone smartphone molded into the shape of a watch. The reason we had to mention it in our article for today is its specs and its features, it really forces one to get nostalgic and think about the stuff we used to watch on t.v. back in the 80’s.

Just to give you a brief idea, the Pine has full GSM quad band functionality, a Dual core Snapdragon processor, 512MB ram, and comes in 8, 16, and 32 GB. It is truly a fully functioning smartphone The other features are quite impres- slight heavier than a regular watch and slightly bulky but it has made sive as well, the camera, the sengood use of the extra weight and sors, and the 720p video playback size. It’s numerous sensors, along capability make the Gear a device with its Android Jelly Bean OS not to be taken lightly….and that mean with regards to your pockets. will make sure you don’t miss out anything that you would be able to It is almost a hundred bucks (US of do in any normal smartphone. course) more expensive than the The cons with this device are SmartWatch2 and does not have associated with its size and not of the same resilience either in terms of dust or water resistance. Another its functionality or lack there of, to be more specific. drawback to the Gear is that It cannot be charged via a regular USB If you are into gadgets and smartcable unlike the SmartWatch 2, you phones, you can find similar artichave to carry a special charging devi- les and many more on our website www.phonegurureviews.com ce in order to charge it, so it can www.ebuzztoday.com

Desert safari is a term that covers the general excursion you would take into the desert. Of course, as many are inexperienced when it comes to the desert, it is always necessary to be accompanied by a guide who has a great deal of training and experience in desert situations.

Desert Safaris in Egypt

largest hot desert,Sahara When in Egypt, it’s a great idea to go on a desert safari. These alternative style trips are an absolute adventure that you must experience. While hot deserts the world over can offer great experiences, in Egypt you can have these experiences and have a blast while doing it! Often traveling into the desert with Bedouin guides, you’ll have a chance to see their interaction with the environment, and enjoy it the way locals would with song and dance around a campfire at night! While camping out in the desert, you’ll experience one of the clearest night skies around as you sit in front of the camp fire and drink traditional Bedouin tea. At your Bedouin camp, you might even enjoy a traditional dinner of lamb, slow cooked in the heat under the sand. While in the Egyptian desert, you’ll probably even be lucky enough to see a fox or two during your stay! Besides camping, the other desert safari activities you can enjoy in Egypt are sand boarding and dune bashing. Sand boarding is a slightly more forgiving version of snowboarding, where you climb up a sand dune with your board, and slide down either standing (for the adventurous with a good sense of

You can enjoy this on a simple day trip outside of the desert at the Qataneya Dunes, or while spending a weekend in the Western Desert. Dune bashing is an activity where you’re riding in a 4x4 vehicle that climbs up the dunes, drives along its crest, and sometimes crosses to the other side of the dune. It’s quite exciting, and you have to hold tight as you’re actually leaning sideways during the ride along the crest of the dune. While out in the Egypts Western Desert, you can also arrange a trip to see one of the 5 oases, and have your very own mirage experience in the Bahariya Oasis, except you’ll be seeing actual palm trees around a small spring of water, or even enjoy a dip in some mineral EBUZZ

Desert safaris are great adventures, and you’re guaranteed to feel the adrenaline rush while driving sideways at the crest of a dune, or sliding down the dune, and you’ll feel the childlike wonder when you spot indigenous wildlife in the area. On your next trip to Egypt, make sure you set aside a weekend for a trip to the desert it’s something you’ll never forget!
