The key elements of success are generally a mixture of talent and hard work. If a clothing brand is successful then it means that the product is good and it targets its audience. I believe that we do that.

The luxury brand is best known for its focus on wearablity, combined with chic and fun , that have an international flavour where each design bears testimony to the excellence in cut, workmanship and quality. The fashion house strives to provide an immaculate essence of style in all their creations, signature designs are one of a kind pieces that evoke a sense of individuality and elegance in the people that wear them. Kamair Rokni runway presentations are high in concept and style. In a candid talk with Ebuzz Magazine, Kamair talks about the success of his brand, his influences and compiltion of his collections. ‘The House of Kamair Rokni’ is a luxury brand that has seen spiraling success. What were the key elements that contributed to the success of your brand? The key elements of success are generally a mixture of talent and hard work. If a clothing brand is successful then it means that the product is good and it targets its audience correctly. I believe that we do that. We offer a quality product that appeals very much to a certain client besides that customer service is very important. Treat your clients well and they will be back for more. What are your primary influences? Is it the ongoing culmination of your own life experiences and travels? Influences have everything to do with life experiences your family and how you were raised Tia, Rehan and I come from a creative tribe were art and culture are important so you could say our family is an influence but to generally be curious about the world different cultures history leads to a lot of inspiration. Reading is also something that unleashes the imagination. What are you fascinated by at the moment and how does it feed into your work? I am fascinated by the art nouveau movement and also with Hungarian and Russian folk peasant dresses. I am sure there colours and motifs will end up on the mix when creating a new outfits or collections. Your ensembles are opulent— amost royal. How do you create so many strikingly different theatrical collections each year within this framework? What is your thought process? We are always working on new samples exploring our ideas and

Tia themes. When we are ready and satisfied with the work we show a collection. This can be a very time consuming process and in fact we don’t show in every single fashion week because sometimes it’s just not possible. But when a collection is well done and almost all the pieces are resolved in terms of design and craft then it is truly memorable. When you are requested to design the most important dress of a woman’s life—be it bridal or debutante evening gown—the clientcouturier relationship is special. How integral is it to the framework and final creation? Made to order or bespoke work can be very collaborative or less so it depends entirely on the client. Some clients want to leave it to you and some clients have definitely ideas and requirements that are a major factor in the creation of the outfit. But this collaboration has to be a well-balanced one or you can have a potential disaster. It is the designers job to guide the client and not go along with concepts that are unsuitable. Flexibility is required from both parties. As a designer you have to be true to your vision and are required to be firm as well as diplomatic. Do share the concept of a successful creative partnership and how you are able to combine ideas and inspirations season after season? Yes I do otherwise the House of Kamiar Rokni would not be what it is.We all collaborate very well and in sync most of the time. You have to be ego less when you are collaborating creatively you have to do what’s right for the garment or the outfit not just indulge yourself .It is a balancing act but leads to great design. Tell us about your other team members, how do you guys plan and share your ideas with each other and do you find any difficulties whilst working on any particluar subject? We first have to agree on a theme EBUZZ

It is the designers job to guide the client and not go along with concepts that are unsuitable. Flexibility is required from both parties. or a general concept or a mood. It could come from anyone myself Tia or Rehan. Then we start working on our individual outfits or ideas and we start collaborating when we start requiring each other. Tia and Rehan may require me for the technical aspects such as construction and I may seek Rehan’s help with motifs or Tia’s for embellishment ideas, that’s when the boundaries blur. Some pieces are icollaborative, some are not at all and some partially. But we respect each other’s opinions and are brutally honest with each other. We are lucky that we all share a sense of colourRehan is very meticulous Tia has a great imagination and comes up with fantastic ideas What kind of research goes in while you plan your collection(s)? It depends on the collections. Some require more research and some less but we go through a lot of books and I like watching films and reading from different sources about a period and era. Sometimes you just have to delve in your memory banks and pluck something out. Do you have a particular memory that stands out from your experiences in couture that you would share with us. The trip to Paris to show our work was a lovely experience. If you make what is our version of couture and get to show it in Paris and be admired it’s pretty exciting and memorable. How do you feel the Pakistani fashion landscape has evolved since the past five years? It has grown leaps and bounds and has become a reputable and proffesional industry. Retail has taken off in a very big way. It’s growing day by day. What discrepancies have you seen whilst designing clothes for Pakistani clients and foreign clients? Most of our clients are Pakistanis either living in Pakistan or abroad we do very few things for the western audience, so I can’t say. We do understand the requirements of our

clientele with is mostly eastern bridal and trousseau. Are we lacking behind other countries, from a designer’s perspective? I think we are doing pretty well and it is actually not that healthy to constantly be comparing ourselves to other countries. If we keep working on quality and consistency we will go far. Who is your muse? And why? Women are my muse.I find all sorts of women fascinating and inspiring also the world itself the universe. The world of man and of nature is a great muse. What is your opinion on the current silhouette trend? There is a diversity in cuts and there is not just one look. There is long short tailored flowing trend. How have fashion weeks changed the mode of business of fashion? Fashion weeks have created a great platform for new designers to enter the market. They have formalized the business of fashion adding to the cultural landscape and also created discipline within the industry and a sense of community. What aspects of Pakistani design are often ignored that you would like to emphasize? I think that the level of skill and craft is incredible in this part of the world and should be explored and experimented by designers especially the new ones. We are sitting on a gold mine. What is the staple piece that all women should have in their wardrobe? A lovely sari. What is the best aspect of being a fashion designer? I am doing what I always wanted to do that’s the best part. Any advice for upcoming new designers? Follow your vision and compromise on the right things.

5 Easy Hair Styles

beauty

for Girls

Often in rush, do you also feel what to do with your hair? Or, something similar, on a bad hair day? Get over this dilemma as we reveals easy and fast hairstyles; just for you!

LOOSE SIDE BRAID: Divide your hair from sideways. Now bring all your hair on one side and weave them into a regular loose low braid. In case you have bangs, let them drop naturally over your face, except they are long and must be tucked aside. If it is so, try merging your tresses in with the braid; else slid them bad with the help of few pins. It is one of the easy hairstyles for long and medium length hair for girls. PUFFED UP BUN:

SLEEK PONYTAIL:

While this is already making it on the international fashion circuit, this will also be perfect as regular street style. Comb leaving your hair neatly and part in the middle side. Bring hair to one side and tie in a tight low pony. Carried off on both casual and formal occasions; this low pony is already a rage amongst college girls and is an ideal one for summers! “Flaunted by the celebs it - this hairstyle adds an amount of class to your look - that too, without much effort!”

Puffs are certainly in as they add the muchneeded glamour to your face. Also, during humidity, you might not feel like leaving your hair down – add the stylish ommph by trying the puffed up hair bun. The bun is easy to make just catch hold of few clips and pins to hold your hair backoops ahead. Now take a chunk of hair from the crown of your head and make it into a puff with the help of the pins. Now take all the remaining locks, roll it, hold back and tie it with a hair band- get the desired look

MESSY HAIR CLUTCHER: Here

comes the simplest of all. Clutcher is one of the most widely used hair accessories. Clutch your hair wet or dry; the result would be ultra stylish - try a messy hairdo with wavy hair using a clutcher. For this, you need to take all your hair and tie it loosely with the help of a clutcher. All you need is a little amount of attitude to show this hairdo off and you are good to go.

FISH-TAIL PL AIT: Part your hair into two large sections, parting straight down the middle. Then, pull a thin segment of hair from the outside of the left section. Pull it over the top of the left section, and grasp it under the right section. In other words, the chunk of hair has gone over the left section and finishes under the right section. Now, repeat the same action on the right side. Get ready to flaunt that “super-in’ fishtail braid! An ideal for outings in the evening - this plait is sure get you rocking! EBUZZ

The lawn Master When it comes to fashion, every woman wants to wear the fabric and designs which compliments her looks and enhances her personality.

Every clothing brand has its lawn and there is on going brand war in the market. Trusting a clothing brand is the most difficult thing to do but if we talk about the House of Ittehad, it is one of those brand which never fails to win the hearts of all ladies who love to dress up. With unique designs, cuts and colour pallets, House of Ittehad brings a certain vibrancy to fashion and style. Launched in 1973, House of Ittehad has forged its self in the fashion market with very progressive out look. The early days saw Ittehad Textiles equipped with roller printing technology. Due to a strong emphasis on quality control, the printed cloth produced under the banner of Ittehad was met with unprecedented success and left a great impact on

Today, Ittehad Group of Industries has an extensive manufacturing network, with its own spinning, weaving, printing and

Kashif Chaudhry (Ittehad Brand Director)

Kashif , as a brand director, how would you describe Ittehad brand in 3 lines? A successful vertical unit, Emerging fashion retail brand, One of the best quality providers. How has your journey been with Ittehad? When I joined Ittehad, it still had a room for improvement. We as a team stablized our design department, our marketing department and from a simple lawn seller, we slowly and gradually changed its image into a fashion brand. Stepping into a fashion weeks, hiring top faces like Priyanka Chopra, arranging personal fashion shows , these were a few steps which Ittehad took to create a new image. It was a challenging journey but I am grateful to God , we have now achieved prominent stand in the market. What makes your designs unique? Our colour palette and experimentation in motifs What is the designing philosophy of Ittehad? Ittehad designs are created keeping our core market in mind. That’s why they are culturely inspired yet elegant and sophisticated. Since we make our own fabric, have own embroidery

embroidery units. Ittehad has opened six stores with the name of ‘ House of Ittehad’ in different cities and in the coming few days their flagship store is going to open in Lahore DHA on 11 October. The interior of the store is done by Saad a Qureshi. Their new store will be stocking loose fabric, iprêt and luxury prêt, winter ranges, scarfs, pants and trousers collection. units, we try to bring in a new variety in fabrication and embroideries and collectively it comes out to be a new look every year. With so many lawn brands in the market, what makes Ittehad so special and why a woman should only buy this brand? Well, Ittehad as I told you deals with a huge core market, so it provides the best quality, a good design in a very economical price which you can wear formally. Even if you compare it with other lawn brands, trust me you won’t repent buying and wearing Ittehad!! When it comes to lawn, people usually take it as causal wear and and from last few year, there is a lawn marketing war going, don’t you think brands and designers have given too much importance to lawn when it comes to prints and price and made people very conscious? Yeah that’s true, it is no more a simple summer wear infact it has become a “ brand war” Nobody bothers about the design or colour if it’s going with their personality or not. They just roam around looking for branded tags. I strongly condemn this culture because everyone should have a style statement and they should focus on colours and designs too rather than focusing on brand name only!

When it comes to branding, how much influence do you think the internet has on businesses? Social networking has become the major contributor in building up and spreading any news regarding brand. I think we can ignore any other medium for marketing but not e marketing. Infact I believe, that even if you’ve just start using the internet only for spreading the word.It will do my job!! What will you say has been your best advertising strategy? E-marketing and print media I would say!! This never fails to support !! OCT-NOV 2014

Movie Review

Raja Natwarlal Cons with the Audience till the end…..

If contact and kissing are Emran Hashmi’s forte as they are often made out to be, then this film sees him in his element. And the film works for his fans with all its flaws Suspense, comedy, romance, and glamour makes a complete bollywood package and now surprisingly you can see that in Kunal Deshkmukh’s Raja Natwarlal. With Emraan Hashmi’s kissing skills, Paresh Ravel’s comedy traits and Humaima Malik’s bollywood heroine , Raja Natwarlal is a must watch. If contact and kissing are Emran Hashmi’s forte as they are often made out to be, then this film sees him in his element. And the film works for his fans with all its flaws. He plays an endearing small-time conman who gets to romance a bar girl (Humaima Malik). But then he gets greedy and wants to go for a big catch so that he can marry his lady love. That’s when the trouble starts. Along with his crime partner Raghav (Deepak), Raja makes EBUZZ

a grand plan to swindle the big baddie Vardha, a billionaire based in Cape Town. But Raghav is killed by Vardha’s men and Raja is out to avenge the loss. He seeks the help of a seasoned crook Yogi (Paresh Rawal). Whether Raja is able to garner help from Yogi and manage to come out of the clutches of Vardha forms the rest of the story. The movie is shot in various locations within India and abroad, and packs in enough drama, but doesn’t entirely excite you. With its many twists, the film actually has enough potential to stay gripping, but fails woefully at it as it gets a hackneyed treatment. But good performances by its lead cast keep it going. Humaima plays her part exceptionally well — waltzing the screen and looking sultry yet sweet. www.ebuzztoday.com

As an accomplished and popular musician he is seen as a source of inspiration for many aspiring artists. Shallum has been recognized for his talent in the past and has received numerous awards for his musical prowess. Some of his most prominent achievements include: 2007&2008: Best Guitarist in Pakistan at The Musik Awards, 2005: Asian Bollywood Music Awards - Best Band in Asia Award for Fuzon and 2011: Awarded Best Song at Prestigious LSA Awards for Song of the Year Payam which he composed and produced . This season the acclaimed guitarist makes his Coke Studio debut by performing with some of the biggest names of Pakistani music industry. Shallum’s quest for music started at a very early age when he bought his first guitar. Quitely content, his commitment and passion for learning and perfecting his craft helped him overcome early obstacles in his musical career. He soon worked toward establishing himself in the music industry where he got instant recognition both for his individual talent and his contributions to one of the leading music band “FUZON”. In an exclusive interview with Ebuzz magazine, Shallum shared his views and experience about coke studio and music:

Are you a self-taught musician or did you receive a professional training? I am a self-taught musician. I learnt the basics on my own and I am in the process of learning more and more as I go forward in life. What is fusion music to you? Fusion music to me is exploring, experimenting, creating and intricately combining sound structures, melodic patterns and rhythms from various genres. The outcome should be a relatively diverse sound scape, having a fresh feel, allowing the ebb and flow of a song or an instrumental. It should be Distinctive and stimulating. I have always been fascinated with the intrinsic fusion sound of music that’s the reason why we made the band Fuzon. The above-mentioned description of my version of fusion music. evident in our songs. A genre which my band Fuzon made quite popular. Fuzon’s brand of fusion music attracted many budding and veteran musicians. What does Coke Studio mean to you? An opportunity to meet and collaborate with talented and accomplished musicians , Showcasing musical collaborations in front of a local and international audience with a different perspective, Projecting, promoting and encouraging both contemporary and ethnic musicians & performers. How does it feel being part of the Coke Studio family for the first time? It feels great to be part of any creative process involving talented artists in Pakistan. It is a rarity considering the socio- political environment which is quite prevalent in our society, hence the experience has been quite interesting and exciting in many ways. I thoroughly enjoyed the creative process and especially the food that was served every afternoon by the exceptional Bangladeshi cook during our jams and rehearsals. What do you envision you can bring to this project on the whole? I can bring diversity and flare and some essential components necessary to witness a change in the sound and most importantly the feel and the vibe of any given situation/project. My long association and involvement with my band Fuzon will also add great value in terms of reaching out to many music listeners ,follower’s ,critics and supporters all over the Globe who have been religiously following my music I created with Fuzon. Our strong and committed fan base local and international will now tune in and add to the numbers as far as viewership is concerned. My induction has further endorsed the Fusion concept of music production and why it has become a tour de force preserving our musical heritage in the modern-day scheme of things. Last but not the least my palette of music will constitute a remarkable tool for understanding the Fusion style of music

I have had the privilege of working and performing with a 60 piece European symphony orchestra and a 25 piece brass band in the past so I can understand how and when to shine and when to contain. There are almost a dozen, and at times more than a dozen artists engaged at the same time, rehearsing the same set, each producing their own unique sound – How challenging was it for you to blend into the fusion environment? I look forward to such challenges and if you know how to listen to the other musicians with you ,with an open mind and a professional approach the task becomes easier and you enjoy the ride. I must also add that in such instances experience and intuition also plays an integral role . I have learned through several local and international collaborations that every instrument is there to create harmony if it’s directed well with precision and honesty. I have had the privilege of working and performing with a 60 piece European symphony orchestra and a 25 piece brass band in the past so I can understand how and when to shine and when to contain. How was the experience collaborating with the legendary Abida Parveen ? This was my second collaboration with Abida Parveen. I clearly remember my first experience in 2006 with Abida and Fuzon at the Royal Albert Hall and this one was also an experience I will remember for a while. Majority of our cultural/ sufi and EBUZZ

eastern vocalists have an major issue remembering western structures or singing according to a plan. They all improvise and have the desire to lead the orchestra which is fine but if we can adapt and play eastern structures and formation then they should also make an attempt. She sang freely and did not give any attention to the way we designed the parts. Eventually we had to follow her it was more like a live show. But the result was memorable because people love her voice and way of singing. Recording live is always a challenging task, how was your experience? Recording live is a task for musicians who can’t play live. We on the other hand look forward to such opportunities. I love the live atmosphere. “Play live if you are alive” What did you find most thrilling or challenging at the recording stage in the project The most challenging and lets say thrilling aspect of this particular project as far as recording on stage is concerned was the sitting and performing part, even though I have sat down and performed many a times in the past but for a musician like me I am more expressive and comfortable while standing specially these days. But then I sat down peacefully and did my job according to the requirement. How was the experience working with Mainstage Productions and Strings? I have had a long and strong association with Strings. I recorded on their last two albums Durr and Dhani. I must say that they are very well organized. I was a part of their live act and also performed and toured with the duo. I understand their approach and direction so I am quite happy to say that it was yet again a fruitful, creative and memorable experience. I am glad I was a part of this season. Both of them and did a commendable job. What is next for Shallum after Coke Studio? Are there any other projects you are working on after CS 7? My band Fuzon will be releasing our third album titled Aik-ranjha which is

a tribute to our legendry folk and classical artists. It’s our rendition of their soulful tunes. Once again our fans and followers will be experiencing the real essence of Fusion sound in this particular album, a style of music that has become our forte. The band (Fuzon) will be releasing videos and information about this project very soon. I will also be releasing a song and a music video that I produced for Humera Channa titled Koshak Dhani in the beginning of September. I am in love with the melody its out of the world and she sang like an Angel. My band Fuzon will tour North America in October and then back to India and Bangladesh in November. There will be quite few songs and videos that we will be releasing these are songs and tracks I produced and composed for some upcoming singers and performers Based on your experience of the current season, would you like to come back to CS’s platform next season? Would love to be back. I had a great time working with the house band and Strings. What are your artistic aspirations To be the best better than all the rest. To establish a proper music school/ college in all the major cities of Pakistan. A center of creativity, mental stimulation, performances, music academics, A place for all progressive, creative and innovative minds. To be able to work on all forms of contemporary and cultural forms of music from the across the world and to be able to perform live on stage and produce exciting quality music till I can breath and function. To work with all my favorite international and local performers. To change the perception of the international viewers who only see Pakistan’s negative image not the creative and historical side. To create a consortium of people/ organizations working toward a modern, logical, progressive, peaceful and tolerant Pakistan, project and promote their work and views to create a sense of direction. This will eventually help to create an atmosphere for artistic minds to flourish.

Samsung Galaxy S5

Smart phones You Can Buy

Smart phones come in all different shapes, sizes, and feature sets. So the phone you buy needs to deliver the right mix of speed, features, ease of use and battery life. And while there’s no such thing as a future-proof smartphone, the very best models will keep you very happy months and months down the road. To help you make the right call, we’ve picked the top smartphones available right now, whether you’re looking for a big-screen phablet, the most advanced camera, or a compact powerhouse.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4

The ultimate big-screen phone, the Galaxy Note 4 is better than its predecessor in every way. You get a sharper, QHD 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display (2560 x 1440 pixels), a zippier 2.7-GHz quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor and a sharper 16-MP camera with optical image stabilization. The Note 4 also sports a sturdy metal frame and a larger capacity, 3,220 mAh battery. The S Pen is better, too, thanks to a smoother note-taking experience. Overall, the Galaxy Note 4 is a killer phablet. EBUZZ

OCT-NOV 2014

The Galaxy S5 looks pretty similar to the Galaxy S4 at first glance, but there are lots of improvements here that add up to our favorite smartphone. There’s a faster 16-megapixel camera with real-time HDR capability, a built-in fingerprint sensor that works with PayPal and a built-in heart rate monitor that can help you keep better tabs on your fitness. But what we really love about this handset is it’s awesomely bright and colorful display, water-resistant design and improved battery life.

Google Nexus 5

If this was a round-up of the best value smartphones, the Nexus 5 would win hands down. The Nexus 5 is far better value than the iPhone 5S and Galaxy S4, or any other rival we can think of. Its Snapdragon 800 processor means it’s a match for the iPhone’s A7 processor, and it’s actually faster than the S4 and HTC One by dint of having the latest version of Qualcomm’s top-end processor. Elsewhere, we love the understated and practical design, the screen and the pure Android 4.4 experience with its improved interface. Where it falls down is in the battery life and camera departments. www.ebuzztoday.com

Sony Xperia Z2

Completing the top end Android phone trilogy, the Sony Xperia Z2 is not a huge upgrade from the Xperia Z1 launched just six months ago but it still excels in all the right departments. There’s still the predominantly glass and aluminum design to give it that strong, assured look and offers the best water resistance of all the top new Android phones. The larger 5.2inch display produces excellent contrast and viewing angles and most importantly is a big bright screen ideal for watching films on. A new Snapdragon 801 processor powers performance and the Z2 runs on Android 4.4 KitKat with a new version of Sony’s custom interface. There’s the same feature-packed 20.7-megapixel camera that’s still a solid shooter even in low-lit conditions with the new addition of 4K video recording.

iPhone 6 Plus

It’s the big phone that Apple fans have been waiting for. The iPhone 6 Plus features a large 5.5-inch Retina HD (1920 x 1080) display, complete with a dual pane mode in various apps for better multitasking. Apple also packs in an A8 processor with 50 percent faster graphics and NFC for Apple Pay, allowing you to potentially replace your wallet. The start of the show is the iSight camera. The new camera sensor features Focus Pixels for faster autofocus and the iPhone 6 plus offers optical image stabilization for steadier still images and video. The more affordable $199 iPhone 6 is more compact, but the bigger Plus’ Reachability mode makes it easy to use Apple’s phablet with one hand. www.ebuzztoday.com

LG G3

technology

While the smartphone with the buttons on the back might not be as sleek-looking as the HTC One M8, there’s still plenty to love about the LG G3. Making a host of improvements on the equally impressive G2, LG most notably adds a new 5.5-inch QHD screen that’s ludicrously sharp, offering decent viewing angles and natural colors. Despite the increase in size, the slim design means it doesn’t feel so grand in the hand either. Running on Android 4.4.2 KitKat with a totally reworked Optimus user interface there’s some nifty new features like split screen view and the Snapdragon 801 processor ensures a slick overall performance. The new 13-megapixel camera with laser autofocus helps make it one of the best shooters particularly for low-lit photography and while the battery is not class leading, the Korean company has come up trumps with its latest flagship phone.

HTC

One M8 for Windows Phone

The HTC One M8 with Android was the sexiest phone yet, so why not put Microsoft’s equally slick software on top? The One M8 for Windows delivers the smart Cortana assistant and other Windows 8.1 goodies inside an aluminum body. You also get booming stereo speakers and more than 10 hours of battery life. Plus, HTC brings some of its own features over from Android land, including Sense TV and Blink Feed. While the camera could be better, this is the Windows phone to beat.

Red revolution

When it comes to your bedroom, think back to your Crayola box. Bright red creates drama, even if you paint just one wall. Don’t be afraid to add splashes of black with pillows, bedding, and lampshades, or even on the headboard paneling. You might cringe at the idea of pairing red and green, but the right shade of moss will really mellow out the look.

Orange crush

Create an inviting entryway with a rich tone like orange that begs to be noticed the moment you walk through the door. Painting the opposite wall another warm shade like deep yellow creates depth (hint: adding a wall mirror enhances the effect). Also, play with patterns. A scrolled rug and floral furniture complement the color scheme without overpowering it.

Green scene

Home offices are all about efficiency, so their colors should be anything but sleepy! Keep the energy level up with a combo of high-contrast hues like apple green, orange, and espresso. Multicolored file folders and a funky chair cushion add even more eye-catching appeal.

Into the blue

Just because it’s bleak outside doesn’t mean you can’t cheer up your space! Why stick to boring beige when you can pump up your pad with a kaleidoscope of color? A splash of cobalt on the walls will make white cabinetry and framed photos pop. Instantly! Balance out the brightness with accents on the warmer side, like a mod orange vase or fresh veggies in a centre piece bowl.

easy ways to add colours to your home Why stick to boring beige when you can pump up your home with a kaleidoscope of colour

Rainbow bright

Who knew books and tchotchkes could make such a stylish statement? Grouping similarly hued objects brings focus to a cluttered bookcase. Stagger your boldest colors on key shelves, like the top, bottom, and middle, leaving neutral space in between. You can also create this look on a windowsill, console table, or nightstand.

Aqualicious lounge

Tying two tranquil colors like aqua and celery together creates a serene living room look. Unite your two major color players in a graphic-print rug for even more visual interest. Trick: Paint your walls a slightly lighter shade than one of the dominant colors. It’ll echo the vibe without looking too matchy-matchy.

Prints that pop

Dying for an aubergine wall? Don’t wimp out like last time. Pull the room together with a print that accentuates your background rather than competing with it.

Foods to Help You Lose Weight

1. Eggs

Skip the bagel this morning. Eggs, which are full of protein, will help you feel fuller longer — a lot longer. A multicenter study of 30 overweight or obese women found that those who ate two scrambled eggs (with two slices of toast and a reduced-calorie fruit spread) consumed less for the next 36 hours than women who had a bagel breakfast of equal calories. Other research has shown that protein may also prevent spikes in blood sugar, which can lead to food cravings.

Thirty billion a year — that’s about how much Americans spend on slim-down products, many of which don’t even work. A better way to get real weight-loss results? Go grocery shopping. New research points to more than a dozen foods, from beans to beef, that can help you fight hunger, kick your candy addiction, boost your metabolism — and ultimately shed pounds. And some of these super foods deliver health bonuses too.

dry milk. There’s also some evidence that beans keep blood sugar on an even keel, so you can stave off hunger longer. Heart-health bonus: High-fiber beans can lower your cholesterol.

3. Salad

Do you tend to stuff yourself at meals? Control that calorie intake by starting with a large salad (but hold the creamy dressing). In a study of 42 women at University, those who ate a big, low-cal salad consumed 12 percent less pasta afterward — even though they were

2. Beans

You’ve probably never heard of cholecystokinin, but it’s one of your best weight-loss pals. This digestive hormone is a natural appetite suppressant. So how do you get more cholecystokinin? One way, report by eating beans: A study of eight men found that their levels of the hormone (which may work by keeping food in your stomach longer) were twice as high after a meal containing beans than after a low-fiber meal containing rice and EBUZZ

HEALTH offered as much as they wanted. The secret, say researchers, is the sheer volume of a salad, which makes you feel too full. Health bonus: A study published in the Journal found that people who ate one salad a day with dressing had higher levels of vitamins C and E, folic acid, lycopene, and carotenoids — all disease fighters — than those who didn’t add salad to their daily menu.

4. Green Tea

The slimming ingredient isn’t caffeine. Antioxidants called catechins are what help speed metabolism and fat burning. In a recent Japanese study, 35 men who drank a bottle of oolong tea mixed with green tea catechins lost weight, boosted their metabolism, and had a significant drop

This may explain why, in a study that lasted 12 weeks, overweight women who ate three small pears or apples a day lost more weight than women on the same diet who ate three oat cookies daily instead of the fruit.

8. Olive Oil

Fight off middle-age pounds with extra virgin olive oil. A monounsaturated fat, it’ll help you burn calories. In an study, 12 postmenopausal women (ages 57 to 73) were given a breakfast cereal dressed either with a mixture of cream and skim milk or half an ounce of olive oil and skim milk. A study from Purdue University found that when a group of 15 normal-weight people added about 500 calories worth of peanuts to their regular diet, they consumed less at subsequent meals. CITIES and TOURIST DESTINATIONS in the MIDDLE EAST Although plagued by religious and social tensions, the Middle East is one of the most fascinating parts of the world, with some of the most breathtaking places and wonders anywhere. Contrary to what may be believed by many in the West, it is perfectly safe to travel to large parts of the region (particularly Turkey, Jordan, United Arab Emirates, and Israel), and most of it is really a mustsee destination at least once in a lifetime.

1 | CAIRO, Egypt Although it’s currently a place to avoid, at some point the social and political turmoil will die down and Cairo will once again be one of the world’s must-go destinations. There’s the beautiful setting by the Nile, and amid all the chaos is faded grandeur in Paris-like architecture downtown. But it’s as a gateway to the Giza pyramids and the spectacular treasures of the Egyptian Museum that should place Cairo on anyone’s travel list.
