Last Time Out
Elmira went 1-1 last weekend against ECAC West Conference foe Hobart College. The Soaring Eagles picked up a 4-2 win on Friday night on Hobart’s home ice before falling to the Statesmen by the same score on Saturday night.
Weekend Test
Elmira’s weekend trip to Massachusetts will be an early season test for the Soaring Eagles as EC takes on a pair of quality teams in Amherst College and Babson College. Amherst is coming off a run to the NESCAC Championship game in 2013-14, a run that ended in a 3-2 defeat to Bowdoin College. Babson on the other hand made a run to the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals last season and this year boast a No. 6 national ranking according to both the USCHO and D3hockey.com polls.
Coach Aaron Saul ’98
Now in his sixth season at the helm of the Elmira College men’s ice hockey program, Coach Saul is sitting on 98 career wins, 79 of which have occurred during his tenure with the Soaring Eagles. Coach Saul is also one of just six coaches in EC program history, and one of just three coaches with multiple ECAC West Conference Tournament titles.
Two for Whittle
In Elmira’s 4-2 win over Hobart College, Greg Whittle ’16 led the charge with a pair of goals. Whittle became the first player this season to record a multi-goal game. For Whittle, his two-goal night ties his career-high which he set against Nazareth College during his freshman campaign in 2012-13.
