Game 7: Elmira College at SUNY Cortland

Last Time Out

The Soaring Eagles bounced back from an early week loss to Clarkson University in a big way in their last match up, trouncing Penn College of Technology 82-47 in Williamsport, PA, last Thursday. After a tightly contested opening quarter, Elmira would pull away for a 12-point lead at the half. The game would turn into a rout during the third quarter, as EC would outscore the Wildcats 28-to-8 during the period. Danielle Cleary ’18 once again powered the Soaring Eagles, scoring a game-high 20 points and chipping in eight rebounds. Rachel Vespucci ’19 and Marissa Silverman ’17 both added major contributions off the bench, scoring 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Cleary Continues Torrid Start

Danielle Cleary ’18 has been hot as wildfire out of the gates this season. The second-year guard has made her presence felt all over the court, which has reflected in a big way on the stat sheet. Cleary is currently riding a five-game streak with 20-plus points and is on pace for the highest-scoring season in program history. She sits atop the Empire 8 in scoring at 22.0 points per game – tied for the 11th-highest scoring average in the nation – and ranks second in rebounds with 9.5 per contest. She’s also the conference’s leader in made free throws with 44, seventh-most in NCAA Division III. The Rochester, NY, native was recently named Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season, after pouring in 49 points and collecting 18 boards last week.

Lindsay Heaton ’19 bounced back from a tough game against Clarkson, posting an efficient effort in the lopsided victory over Penn College of Technology last Thursday. The first-year point guard posted nine points and a career-high seven boards against the Wildcats. She made her presence felt right off the opening tip, scoring four early points to stake Elmira to an early lead it would not 2015-16 SCHEDULE (2-4, 0-0 EMPIRE 8) relinquish. Caysea Cohen has also had an impact all over the stat sheet, chipping in 11.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per contest.
