ELMIRA COLLEGE NOTES

Top Seeded Team: After finishing the regular season with a perfect 18-0-0 ECAC West Conference record, the most conference wins in ECAC West history, the Elmira College women enter the playoffs as the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament. For Elmira, the 2014-15 championships marks the first time they have entered the playoffs as the top seeded team since 2008-09, a year that the Soaring Eagles not only won the ECAC West title, but also made a run to the NCAA Tournament Finals. Program Record: Elmira concluded the regular season with 23 wins, setting a new program record for most regular season wins. The previous record was held by the 2001-02 NCAA National Championship team, as their 22 regular season victories in Elmira’s inaugural season was a program record for 13 years.

ECAC West Player of the Year: Ashley Ryan ’15, the nation’s leader in points and assists, was named the ECAC West Conference Player of the Year. Ryan’s award marks the first time an Elmira player has taken home the conference’s top honor since former AHCA All-American Kayla Coady ’09 did it in 2008-09. Ryan has enjoyed her best season to date with 56 points, 17 goals, and 39 assists, all of which are career highs. ECAC West Defensive Player of the Year: For a second consecutive season, the ECAC West Defensive Player of the Year Award has gone to Brooke Wilgosh ’15. Wilgosh, who leads the nation in defensemen scoring, boasts a 1.24 points per game average, making her the only defenseman to be ranked inside the national top-50 in points per game.

PLATTSBURGH STATE NOTES

Unfamiliar Territory: With the exception of two losses to Elmira, Plattsburgh State has breezed through the ECAC West as they enter the conference tournament as the No. 2 seed. For Plattsburgh, the 2014-15 ECAC West Conference Tournament will be the first conference tournament played away from the Stafford Ice Arena since 2011-12, when former ECAC West member, RIT, served as the host in their final year as an NCAA Division III member. The Cardinals have hosted seven of the last 11 ECAC West Conference Championships. Back on Track: After suffering back-to-back losses to Elmira, the Cardinals have bounced back to win six straight games, including a nationally ranked win over No. 3 Middlebury. During the five-game stretch, Plattsburgh outscored their opponents 32-10.

ECAC West Rookie of the Year: Kayla Meneghin ’18 wrappedup the regular season with 44 points on 19 goals 25 assists, all of which were team-highs, en route to being named the ECAC West Conference Rookie of the Year. Meneghin’s 1.76 points per game average is the highest average for rookies across all divisions of men’s and women’s college hockey. No Home Ice, No Problem: The Cardinals have been one of the most dominant programs in the country over the last several years, mainly due to their consistency no matter where they play. Plattsburgh has yet to taste defeat on the road, going 12-01 away from the Stafford Ice Arena this season. Since the 201213 season, Plattsburgh has gone 36-2-3 away from home, with their only two losses coming to Middlebury and Elmira.

OSWEGO STATE NOTES

A Season to Remember: Oswego enters championship weekend after defeating SUNY Cortland in the ECAC West Quarterfinals, 2-1. With the win, Oswego picked up their 19th win of the season, the most wins in program history. The Lakers pieced together a nine-game win streak and a 10-game unbeaten streak earlier this season, both of which set new program records. Additionally, Oswego has set new program records with 167 points and 98 assists. Lenard for the Win: In Oswego’s 2-1 win over Cortland, rookie Rachel Lenard ’18 played the hero, scoring both goals against the Red Dragons. Both of Lenard’s tallies came on power-play opportunities as she helped Oswego make their second consecutive ECAC West Semifinal appearance.

First Team Honors: Senior Goaltender, Bridget Smith ’15, has been instrumental in Oswego’s success this season. In 19 appearances, Smith has posted a 13-4-1 record, making 530 saves in the process of being named to the ECAC West All-Conference First Team. Her 1,279 career saves are second-most in Oswego history, while her .948 save percentage leads the nation. Defense is Key: Credit much of Oswego’s triumphs in 2014-15 to their play on the defensive end of the ice. The Lakers own the nation’s sixth-best scoring defense, limiting teams to 1.58 goals per game. Oswego’s penalty kill unit has also been superb this year, denying 82-of-88 opponent power-play chances for a success rate of 93.2, which leads all of NCAA Division III women’s ice hockey.

Postseason Pioneers: Utica punched their ticket to the ECAC West Semifinals by downing Buffalo State 4-1 in the quarterfinals. With the win, the Pioneers have successfully reached three straight ECAC West Conference Semifinals and have made it to 12 ECAC West Semifinals over the last 14 seasons. However, the Pioneers have only reached the conference final one time, dating back to the 2005-06 season.

Staying Out of the Sin Bin: Utica has seen their fair share of penalty minutes during the 2014-15 campaign, 308 to be exact. The Pioneers are averaging 11.8 penalty minutes per game, the third-highest average in the country, and have surrendered 28 power-play goals. Thankfully for Utica, they have Gabrielle Schnepp ’17, who is tied for sixth in the nation in shorthanded goals with two.

Real Deal Reed: Third-year talent Morgan Reed ’16 has been Utica’s go-to player on offense this season, as she leads the Pioneers with a career-high 26 points on 15 goals, which are also a career-best, and 11 assists. Her 15 goals are tied for eighth-most in the ECAC West Conference, as are her 26 points. Reed is also Utica’s top power-play scorer with four power-play goals.

Going with Goin: Keira Goin ’17 has seen the majority of minutes between the pipes this season for the Pioneers, making 19 appearances for 1,120 minutes. Her 462 saves this season are eighth-most in Utica history and her .926 save percentage ranks sixth in program history. Goin has been playing her best hockey late in the season, picking up wins in four of her last six starts.
