The Soaring Eagles went to Plattsburgh State last weekend and came away with a pair of ECAC West victories, winning 2-1 and then 6-2. Cassidy Delainey ’15 scored the game-winning power-play goal in the third period of Saturday’s game, and then Ashton Hogan ’15 scored two shorthanded goals, one being the eventual game-winner, to put the Cardinals away for good on Sunday.

Make it 8 Straight

The weekend victories moved EC’s current win streak to eight games and their unbeaten streak to 11 games. This is the fourth straight season that Elmira has strung together at least eight consecutive victories, with their longest win streak, which came in 2011-12, being 10 games.

Changing of the Guard

Elmira took over the number one spot in both national polls this week, ending Plattsburgh’s 30-week run as the number one team in the nation. The last poll that had EC in the top spot was the 2013-14 Preseason Poll, released on October 28, 2013.

In the Driver’s Seat

With the two victories over Plattsburgh State, Elmira’s ECAC West Conference record stands at 12-0-0. EC is the only team undefeated in ECAC West play and is in position to take home their first outright regular season conference title since 2008-09. The Purple and Gold also have the inside track to host the ECAC West Conference Tournament, which begins on February 28th.

Streak-Busters

EC ended a few long-standing Plattsburgh unbeaten streaks this past weekend. Saturday’s win snapped the Cardinals’ 28-game unbeaten streak as well as Plattsburgh’s 40-game home unbeaten streak.
