The Soaring Eagles posted consecutive shutouts over No. 9 Oswego State in the final weekend of the regular season, defeating the Lakers 6-0 and 4-0 in the two games. Cassidy Delainey ’15 and Ashley Ryan ’15 led the Purple and Gold, each scoring three goals and tallying one assist over the course of the weekend. The wins moved EC’s record to 23-1-1 and 18-0-0 in ECAC West play and increased Elmira’s nationleading unbeaten streak to 17 games.
They Got to Her
Oswego’s senior netminder Bridget Smith had been one of the toughest goalies in the country to score on, entering the final weekend of the regular season ranked third in goals against average (GAA) at 1.16 and leading the nation with a .960 save percentage. The Purple and Gold put 10 goals on the scoreboard against Smith in 74 shots, raising her GAA to 1.60 and dropping her save percentage to .947.
First Since 2005-06
At 18-0-0 in ECAC West Conference games, the Soaring Eagles completed the first unblemished conference regular season schedule since the 2005-06 season. It is just the fourth time in ECAC West history that a team has completed a perfect conference schedule, with Plattsburgh State doing it twice, in 2003-04 and 2005-06, and EC completing the feat back in 2002-03. However, this year’s Elmira team is the first to do it in a 10-team conference.
One for the Record Books
The two wins over Oswego State improved EC’s record to 23-1-1. The 23 wins set a new program-high for regular season wins, eclipsing the 22 victories produced by the 2001-02 Soaring Eagles.
