Elmira returns home for a rare Tuesday night game against the Fredonia State Blue Devils. EC is fresh off a weekend road trip in which the Soaring Eagles fell to the College at Brockport and current No. 8 nationally ranked Oswego State. Elmira is 2-1 at home this season and under head Coach Aaron Saul ’98, the Soaring Eagles are 35-18-1 when playing at the Murray Athletic Center.

Following a Loss

The Soaring Eagles have gone 1-2 in games following a loss this year. Last season the Purple and Gold went 6-9 in games following a defeat and 4-3-1 the previous season.

Tuesday Night Games

Tonight’s match-up against the Blue Devils marks Elmira’s first of three Tuesday night games of the 2013-14 season. This is the first season Elmira will have played in more than one Tuesday night game since the 2007-08 season when the Soaring Eagles played in three.

Elmira in Tuesday Night Games

Since the 1999-00 season, Elmira has done extremely well in Tuesday night games. The EC men boast a 21-5-1 record in those games, including an 11-3-1 mark when playing those games at the Murray Athletic Center. Also, Elmira is undefeated against Fredonia State in Tuesday night games since the 1999-00 season.

When EC Scores First...

Elmira is a perfect 2-0 this season when they have scored first. Over the last three seasons, Elmira has gone 18-9-2 when scoring first.

The Streaker

Burnell has tallied points in each of Elmira’s six games this season, the only EC player to do so. However, his consecutive point streak extends to seven games as last year he finished the season by assisting on goal in the season finale.

Is There a Pattern Here?

Elmira opened the season with a win, which was followed by two losses. Then, EC picked up another win but again lost their next two games. To complete the pattern, EC will need to win tonight.

Snapping the Skid

After pulling off a 3-2 OT upset of No. 8 nationally ranked Oswego State, the Blue Devils went cold, dropping their next three games. However, Fredonia stopped the bleeding with a 6-4 win over SUNY Potsdam, a game in which the Blue Devils scored three third period goals to overcome a one goal deficit for the victory.

The Battle of Rookie Goalies

not in

40 years

Last season’s leading goal scorer, Carter Shinkaruk ’16 became the first freshman to lead the Soaring Eagles in goals scored. Shinkaruk scored nine goals in his rookie campaign and will surely be a force on offense in 2013-14. Last season the Soaring Eagles posted a 10-16 overall record, their first losing season since the 2004-05 season. Following the 2004-05 season, the EC men marched all the way to semifinals of the NCAA Tournament.
