Elmira split a pair of games at this past weekend’s Cardinal-Panther Classic, first defeating No. 5 Middlebury College on Saturday before falling to No. 1 Plattsburgh State on Sunday in the Classic Championship game. EC first used two first-period goals to down the Panthers, 4-1, but fell victim to three unanswered third-period Plattsburgh goals in their 4-2 defeat to the Cardinals.
Best Start Since 2002-03
With Elmira’s 4-1 victory over then-No. 5 Middlebury College, EC moved to 7-0-0 in 2014-15. The seven straight wins to start the season matched the best start to a season since 2002-03.
Fourth Time in Program History
For the fourth time in Elmira College women’s ice hockey history, EC has opened a season with seven wins in their first eight games. The previous three seasons that this has occurred were 2001-02, 2002-03, and 2012-13, all of which were national championship seasons for the Purple and Gold.
Back-to-Back for Jo-Jo
Last season’s leading rookie scorer, Johanna Eidensten ’17, had been unable to get in the scoring column through the season’s first six games, but that changed over the weekend as she recorded four points on two goals and two assists at the Cardinal-Panther Classic. She tallied two assists, including one on the game-winning goal, against Middlebury on Saturday for her first two points of the season, then found the back of the net twice against Plattsburgh State, EC’s only two goals of the game.
