The Soaring Eagles split their weekend inside the Empire 8 Conference, defeating Utica College 56-53 on Friday, before falling to Hartwick College 63-36 on Saturday. In the win over the Pioneers, EC scored 22 points in the fourth quarter to overcome a five-point deficit. Danielle Cleary ’18 led the comeback with 15 of her game-high 22 points in the second half. The following day, EC recorded its worst offensive outing of the season with season lows of 36 points and a 25.6 field-goal percentage.

Climbing the Charts

Cleary and senior forward Meghan Loya ’16 continue to climb the ranks among Elmira’s all-time record holders. Cleary moved into ninth-place all-time with 191 made free throws in her career. With 82 on the season, she needs only four more foul shots to reach the 10th-highest single-season total, this after her 109 free throws as a freshman marked the fourth-most in a season. Loya now sits ninth all-time in the record books with 519 rebounds after grabbing eight more against Hartwick. With three more boards, Loya can surpass Rachael Brown ’00 and Becca Fretz ’11 to take sole possession of seventh place.

Cleary, the reigning Empire 8 Conference Rookie of the Year, continued her impressive sophomore campaign with 16.7 points per game over the last week. The Rochester, NY, native nearly registered her fourth double-double of the season with 16 points and nine rebounds against Ithaca College. Cleary recorded her seventh game with 20-plus points when she netted 22 in the victory over Utica. With 12 more points against Hartwick, she scored her 10th double-digit point game of 2015-16 SCHEDULE (4-11, 1-5 EMPIRE 8) the season. With 6-foot-2 senior forward Maisie ^M-Club Classic Tournament Pipher pacing the conference with 10.1 rebounds per game, it is no surprise that the Highlanders also lead the conference as a team with 43.8. Pipher is the only player in the league averaging a double-double, as she sits 12th in league scoring with 11.8 per game. Houghton’s leading scorer, Elle Reed – a three-point shooting threat – is eighth in the E8 with 14.7 points per game.
