Season-Opening Win
Elmira had struggled in season-opening games over the last 14 years, posting a 4-10 record since 2000-01. However, the Soaring Eagles picked up their first season-opening win since the 2009-10 season this year when Elmira used a Tyler Dibble ’15 buzzer-beater layup to seal a 57-56 win over host Oswego State.
Dibble Plays the Hero
Senior guard Tyler Dibble ’15 made one of the biggest plays of his career in Elmira’s one-point win over Oswego State. Dibble weaved his way through a pair of defenders to hit a buzzer-beating layup, sinking Oswego State on their home court, 57-56. Dibble’s game-winning layup is the second of his EC career. Last year Dibble also made a last-second layup against Ithaca College, sneaking a 69-68 win from the Bombers.
Feeling it From Three
The Soaring Eagles have knocked down 14 three pointers this season, twice as many as their opponents. Elmira’s 14-made threes have been made by just four players with Justin Henderson ’16 and Hayden Harkins ’18 leading the way with four makes apiece.
Career-High for Henderson
Justin Henderson ’16 saw a total of six minutes last season. His role has grown in a big way this season as the second-year guard has tripled his minutes in 2014-15. Highlighting Henderson’s spike in minutes is his 12-point performance against Farmingdale State, a game in which he knocked down all four of his season’s three-point buckets. His 12 points marks a career-high.

Against Oswego State, the Soaring Eagles trailed by as many as 14 points in the second half. However, Elmira stormed back and closed out the final 7:16 on a 21-6 run to steal a 57-56 win against the Lakers. The win marks the largest comeback by an Elmira team since the 2008-09 season when the Purple and Gold clawed back from 15-down against SUNY Cortland, finishing the game on a 31-10 run for a 69-63 win.
Breaking Down the Run

Starters Get It Done
In Elmira’s one point win over Oswego State, the Soaring Eagles relied heavily on their starting five players. Elmira’s starting five scored 51 of EC’s 57 points, accounting for 89 percent of Elmira’s scoring, the highest percentage in an Elmira win since last year’s 69-68 victory over Ithaca College.
Glass Cleaners
Elmira held a 43-32 advantage in rebounds against Oswego State. EC’s 11 rebound margin is the largest since last year’s 80-67 victory against Alfred University. Last season Elmira outrebounded their opponents 10 times, going 4-6 in those 10 games.
Series History
The Soaring Eagles and the Hawks of Hilbert College have only played each other two times in their history, with each team winning one game. Elmira owns the most recent win in the series history.
Back-to-Back Seasons
Neil Randolph ’15 led the Purple and Gold in scoring and rebounding last season, marking the second consecutive season that that has been accomplished by a single player. This feat has been accomplished a total of 19 times in Elmira College men’s basketball history, including three times in the last four years.
A 10 Points per Game Jump
Randolph’s 18.4 points per game average marked a 10.5 points per game improvement from 2012-13. That increase is the fourth largest points per game increase from season-to-season in Elmira College history, trailing former EC standouts Reggie Rollins ’88, Corrin Jackson ’03, and Ryan Bennett ’01, who saw their scoring averages increase by 13.6, 12.6, and 10.7 points per game, respectively. What separates Randolph’s performance, however, is that Randolph is the only player of the group who was a starter the year before the increase as Rollins, Jackson, and Bennett all came off the bench in the year prior to their breakout seasons.
