That’s More Like It

The Soaring Eagles got back in the win column with an impressive 76-61 victory at Houghton College Tuesday night. EC controlled the game from the opening tip and led by double-digits for the majority of the game, their largest lead being 17 points. Neil Randolph ’15 and Josh Keys ’14 led the way with 21 points apiece, while Jake Metcalf ’15 and Kurt Dutcher ’14 continued their strong play off the bench, chipping in nine and six points respectively.

45-Point Outburst

The Purple and Gold exploded for 45 points in the first half of their win over Houghton College. Keys’ six first-half three-pointers set the tone offensively as the Soaring Eagles opened up a 14 point lead at the half. The 45 first-half points is the most EC has scored in an opening half this season and matches the season-high for points in a half (Hilbert College and Fredonia State). The last time an Elmira team scored 45 points in a first half was December 30, 2005 when the men dropped 47 first-half points against Washington & Jefferson College.

Dynamic Duo

Neil Randolph ’15 and Josh Keys ’14 exploded for 21 points apiece in Tuesday’s win over Houghton College, the third time this season that the duo recorded 20 or more points in the same game. Elmira holds a 2-1 record in those games, with their only blemish coming in the season opener against No. 20 Morrisville State, 81-75.

Super Sub

Jake Metcalf ’15 has emerged as one of Coach Torgalski’s top options off the bench after averaging 12 points per game in his previous two contests while shooting nearly 92 percent from the floor.
