Looking to Get Back on Track
The Soaring Eagles have now dropped two consecutive games after falling to Alfred University, 80-51, Tuesday night. EC will look to get back in the win column this weekend as they take on Utica College and Houghton College.
It Starts on Defense
One way in which EC can rebound from their past two games is to lock down on the defensive end of the floor. The Purple and Gold have allowed both of their last two opponents, St. John Fisher College and Alfred University, to shoot 60-plus percent from the field, the first time that has happened in over 14 years. Opponent’s shooting percentage is a key identifier for Elmira’s success since in EC’s three wins this season, the Soaring Eagles have limited their opponents to no better than 45 percent shooting from the floor.
Bench Scoring
Out of EC’s 51 total points against the Saxons, 31 came from players who came off the bench. That is the most bench points scored all season, and the most an Elmira team has posted since January 25, 2013. On that date, the Soaring Eagles recorded 32 bench points in an 8862 win over Hartwick College.
60.8 Percent
In terms of percentage, Elmira’s 31 bench points against Alfred University represented 60.8 percent of EC’s total scoring. That is the highest percentage the Purple and Gold have recorded in a game since January 13, 2012 when EC received 66.7 percent of their total scoring from non-starters at St. John Fisher College. In that game, Elmira scored a total of 57 points, with 38 coming from bench players.
