Last Time Out
Elmira suffered a pair of ECAC West Conference losses to Nazareth College in their last weekend series. The Soaring Eagles trailed 1-0 after the first 20 minutes of play but a second period power-play goal by Tommy Sumi ’16 evened things at one apiece. Unfortunately, the Golden Flyers would knock-in a late goal in the third period, sinking Elmira’s hopes of a comeback as the Purple and Gold fell on the road, 2-1.
Sixth in the Nation
Jarryd ten Vaanholt ’16 has been a steady point contributor for the Soaring Eagles this year, much of which has to do with his ability to rack up assists. ten Vaanholt leads the ECAC West in assists with 19 and his 0.95 assists per game average is the sixth-highest in all of NCAA Division III men’s ice hockey.
Looking to Break the Streak
Elmira is 1-3 in their last four games and have dropped two straight contests, their second-longest winless streak of the year. However, following Elmira’s three-game skid earlier this season, the Soaring Eagles pieced together their longest unbeaten streak of the 2014-15 season, going 4-0-1 in their next five games.
Home at the Dome
With a 5-2-2 home record, Elmira has shown that they can compete with the best teams in the country when playing at the Murray Athletic Center. Since Coach Aaron Saul ’98 took the reins of the men’s program in 2009, the Soaring Eagles are 46-23-3 in home games, including a 22-15-1 mark in regular season ECAC West Conference games.
