Elmira earned a 4-0 win in its most recent contest against SUNY Cortland, which completed the weekend sweep of the Red Dragons. The Soaring Eagles controlled the tempo of the game right from the jump, as EC outshot Cortland, 17-to-1 in the first period. Elmira would go on to outshoot Cortland 37-to-12 in the contest, en route to its second conference win of the year.
Swedish Scoring
In EC’s four-goal win over the Red Dragons, Elmira’s Swedish nationals, Olivia Nyström ’16, Johanna Eidensten ’17, and Anna Tude ’17, all played major roles. The trio had a hand in each of Elmira’s four goals and combined for six of EC’s 10 points. All three players finished with two points apiece.

Maddie Evangelous ’19 pieced together two very strong performances in Elmira’s two victories over SUNY Cortland. The rookie winger from Hudson, MA, scored a pair of power-play goals and assisted on one other score against the Red Dragons. For her efforts, Evangelous was named the ECAC West Rookie of the Week.
Hat Trick Hero
Meghan Fonfara ’18 exploded for three goals in the second period of Elmira’s 5-1 win over SUNY Cortland. Fonfara’s three-goal effort was the first of her collegiate career and marked the first time an EC skater has tallied a hat trick in one period since the 2010-11 season.
National Honors for EC
Kristin Chivers ’19 and Fonfara were honored earlier this week by being named to the D3hockey.com National Team of the Week. Chivers and Fonfara, who 2015-16 SCHEDULE (3-1-0, 2-0-0 ECAC WEST) were both Second Team honorees, had exceptional performances in the previDay Date Opponent Time-Result ous week’s games. Chivers assisted on a pair of Elmira goals in EC’s 5-1 win over the Red Dragons on Friday night.
