Last Time Out
Elmira is coming off a 5-2 road win against the Bears of SUNY Potsdam. In the win, the Soaring Eagles used three third period goals to clinch their seventh win of the season and their fourth victory in their last five games.
Shorthanded Effort
In Elmira’s win over Potsdam, Michael Collins ’16 scored a shorthanded empty net goal. Collins’ shorthanded goal marks the third consecutive game Elmira has scored on an opposing team’s powerplay opportunity. The last time EC scored a shorthanded goal in three straight games dates back to the 2003-04 season.
Scoring Five or More
One thing has been proven for certain this year, and that is, if you allow Elmira to score five or more goals, they are going to win the game. EC is 4-0-0 this season when they have put five goals on the scoreboard. Last year Elmira went 11-0-0 when scoring five or more.
Strong Power-Play Unit
Elmira’s power-play unit continues to put goals on the scoreboard as the Purple and Gold went 1-for-4 in power-play chances against SUNY Potsdam. The Soaring Eagles are scoring on 29.5 percent of their power-play opportunities, the eighth-best average in NCAA Division III men’s ice hockey.
Collins & Whittle Lead the Way
Since the New Year, Michael Collins ’16 and Greg Whittle ’16 have been on a tear. Collins has logged seven of his season’s nine points in EC’s first four games of the New Year. Whittle has also totaled seven points, six of those coming on assists.
