Scoring Leader

After posting her first career hat trick in the first game against Cortland State, Kara Goodwin has improved her total goals scored this season to eight and improved her season point total to 10. This is the most goals netted by anyone on the Bengals’ roster this season. The eight goals already ties Buffalo State’s leading goal scorer a season ago.

In the Net

The Bengals’ netminder, Jordan Lee, finished the weekend sweep of Cortland State last week with 58 saves, a 2.00 goals against average, and a .935 save percentage. After helping her team pick up their first two wins of the season, Lee was named to the ECAC West Weekly Honor Roll.

Other Scoring Options

Behind Goodwin’s team-leading 10 points, the Bengals top scoring options are Nikki Kirchberger and Jeyna Minnick. Kirchberger has tallied eight points this season on six goals and two assists while Minnick is right behind with seven points on three goals and four assists this year.

Title Defense

This is the third time in just 12 years of EC women’s ice hockey that the Purple and Gold will begin a season as the defending national champions. Despite losing some key pieces from last year’s team, the 2013-14 edition of EC women’s ice hockey has returned six of its top 10 scorers and is ready to bring another title back home. The Soaring Eagles successfully defended their first national championship, winning back-to-back titles in 2001-02 and 2002-03. EC became the first program to win NCAA Championships in each of their first two years of existence.

Holding Down No. 3

For the fourth straight week Elmira is ranked third in the nation according to the USCHO.com Division III Poll. EC is behind No. 1 Plattsburgh State and No. 2 Middlebury College. The Soaring Eagles have been as high as first in the poll and as low as fifth this season.
