Trio of Power Play Scorers

The Soaring Eagles have converted 11 of their 60 power play opportunities this season with nine of those 11 goals coming from three players, Ashton Hogan ’15, Tanis Lamoureux ’14, and Brooke Wilgosh ’15. Each of these women have recorded three power play goals on the season, placing them in a tie for eighth in the country for power play goals scored. EC is also the only Division III women’s ice hockey team to have three players in the top 10 in this category.

No Losing Streaks Here

EC only has two losses this season, both against top-five teams, but the Purple and Gold have a 2-0-0 record following a loss, showing the ability to rebound from a defeat. After falling to No. 5 Norwich University on November 3rd, the Soaring Eagles posted a 4-1 win over Utica College and then after losing to No. 2 Middlebury College on Saturday, EC came back to secure a 3-2 victory over Amherst College on Sunday.

Road Warriors

The women have played all but two of their games away from the friendly confines of the Murray Athletic Center this season, the fewest number of home games played through the first academic term since the 2006-07 season. The women have recorded a 4-2-1 record away from home this year after posting a 14-4-1 record last season.

When EC Scores First

The Soaring Eagles are 5-1-0 when they record the first goal of the game. EC posted a remarkable 24-1-1 record when scoring first a season ago.

Chatham enters this weekend of competition with a 2-4-2 overall record and a 2-2-0 mark in ECAC West play. After starting the season with a 2-1-1 record, the Cougars have lost three straight games and are winless in their last four games.

Chatham Scoring Leaders

The Cougars have scored 12 goals this season, five of which have come from newcomer, Brianna Rice. Rice leads Chatham in goals as well as points (7) and has scored both game-winning goals of the 2013-14 season. Behind Rice is Erika Bronk who has five points on three goals and two assists. The team leader in assists is another newcomer, Kaitlyn Perrins, who has four from the blue line. While Chatham has used both of their goaltenders this season, Tara Treloar has earned the most time between the pipes thus far, compiling over 314 minutes while making five starts. Treloar has made 106 saves with a .914 save percentage and holds a 1.91 goal against average entering play this weekend. The freshman also tallied the Cougars’ lone shutout this season, making 23 saves in a 3-0 win over Buffalo State on November 8th.

Title Defense

This is the third time in just 12 years of EC women’s ice hockey that the Purple and Gold will begin a season as the defending national champions. Despite losing some key pieces from last year’s team, the 2013-14 edition of EC women’s ice hockey has returned six of its top 10 scorers and is ready to bring another title back home. The Soaring Eagles successfully defended their first national championship, winning back-to-back titles in 2001-02 and 2002-03. EC became the first program to win NCAA Championships in each of their first two years of existence.

New USCHO Poll

The Soaring Eagles continue to hold down the number four spot in the latest USCHO poll. In fact, the top four teams in the country stayed the same for a fourth consecutive week, while the team that EC defeated last Sunday, Amherst College, made its first appearance in the top-10, checking in at number nine.
