Kyle Nelson ’17 earned the start against No. 2 Middlebury College last weekend and despite the overtime loss, the rookie goaltender made 28 saves between the pipes, the second highest of her young career. For her efforts, Nelson was named the ECAC West Rookie of the Week.

Balanced Attack

The Purple and Gold continue to get scoring contributions from nearly every member of their roster as 17 out of the 19 skaters have registered at least one point this season. EC already has six players with double-digit points after finishing the 2012-13 season with 15 players reaching that plateau.

Top-Five Offense

The Soaring Eagles have had little trouble scoring goals this season as the 4.17 goals scored per game places EC fifth amongst all NCAA Division III women’s ice hockey programs.

Fifth in the Nation

Ashley Ryan ’15 continues to rank as one of the best scorers in NCAA Division III Ice Hockey as her 1.83 points per game places her fifth in the country.

12th in the Nation

Tanis Lamoureux ’14 joins Ryan on the top scorers list, tying for 12th in the country in points scored per game with 1.42. EC joins St. Scholastica as the only Division III programs with more than one player ranking in the top 12.

100-Point Watch

Tanis Lamoureux ’14 has been a steady point producer for the Soaring Eagles throughout her four-year career and this season is no different. After picking up an assist on EC’s first goal of the night against Middlebury, the captain has 17 points through the first 12 games this season and 85 points in her career. Another 15 points will make Lamoureux the eighth player in EC history to reach the 100-point plateau and the first player since former standout Jenna McCall ’10.

Lamoureux in the Record Books

Lamoureux can find her name scattered throughout the EC record books as she continues to pile up stats. The captain picked up her 48th career assist over the weekend, moving her into a tie for 12th place all-time. Her 85 points are 10th most in Elmira College history while her 37 career goals are tied for 12th most. She is also tied for 10th all-time in game-winning goals with seven.

All-Time vs. Norwich

EC and Norwich have met eight times since the 2007-08 season with the Cadets owning a slight edge in the series history. Norwich owns a 4-3-1 record against the Soaring Eagles after defeating Elmira earlier this season at the East-West Classic.

Coach Jackson vs. Norwich

Coach Jackson has not yet come away victorious against the Cadets, holding a 0-1-1 record in two games against Norwich.

All-Time vs. Hamilton

The Soaring Eagles and the Continentals have met 10 times since the 2002-03 season with EC taking all 10 contests. Hamilton is one of six colleges that Elmira has played at least 10 times and has yet to lose to in its 13-year history. Scan the QR code with your smartphone for all of this weekend’s coverage.

Coach Jackson vs. Hamilton

In his inaugural season, Coach Jackson’s Soaring Eagles shut out Hamilton College 6-0 at the Murray Athletic Center.

Norwich enters tonight’s contest as the number four ranked team in the country, boasting a 9-2-0 record. The Cadets’ only two losses this season came at the hands of Plattsburgh State, both of which bookended a ninegame winning streak.

Cadets to Watch

The Norwich offense is led by Tori Charron, who is the only Cadet to record double-digit points this season. Charron has 18 points on 12 goals and six assists and ranks fifth in NCAA Division III women’s ice hockey in goals per game. Coming in behind Charron is fellow senior, MariePhilip Guay who has eight points and then a foursome of Norwich players with seven points apiece. Hamilton enters this weekend of play with a 2-4-1 overall record, with both wins coming at home in the Russell Sage Rink. In fact, both of Hamilton’s wins have come against ECAC West opponents as the Continentals defeated SUNY Potsdam 5-2 and SUNY Oswego 2-1.

Hamilton’s Scoring Leaders

The Continentals are led offensively by a trio of players, Gigi Fraser, Stephanie Lang, and Katie Parkman, who have tallied five points apiece. Fraser leads Hamilton with four goals while Parkman is tops in assists with three.

Title Defense

This is the third time in just 12 years of EC women’s ice hockey that the Purple and Gold will begin a season as the defending national champions. Despite losing some key pieces from last year’s team, the 2013-14 edition of EC women’s ice hockey has returned six of its top 10 scorers and is ready to bring another title back home. The Soaring Eagles successfully defended their first national championship, winning back-to-back titles in 2001-02 and 2002-03. EC became the first program to win NCAA Championships in each of their first two years of existence.

New USCHO Poll

Despite an overtime loss to No. 2 Middlebury, the Soaring Eagles moved up a spot in the latest USCHO poll as EC is now third in the nation behind fellow ECAC West member Plattsburgh State and Middlebury.
