That’s More Like It
The Soaring Eagles snapped their two-game losing streak in impressive fashion this past weekend as the women defeated Houghton College, 73-60, and Utica College, 64-57. The women led by as many as 20 points in the second half against Houghton as they cruised to the 13-point win and then followed that up with a wire-to-wire victory over Utica on Saturday afternoon.
First Winning Season Since 2006-07
The victory over Utica was EC’s 13th win of the season. With 13 victories, the Soaring Eagles have clinched the first winning season since the 2006-07 season.
Earning Free Points
The women attempted 36 free throws against Houghton on Friday, knocking down 28. Three of EC’s starters were the driving force behind their success as Alex Balara ’15, Maria Thannhauser ’14, and Jessica Zoltowski ’14 combined to shoot 23-of-25 from the charity stripe.
Double-Digit Steals
In both games over the weekend, the Soaring Eagles recorded doubledigit steals, 15 against Houghton College and 14 against Utica College. EC now has nine games this season in which they tallied at least 10 steals, holding a perfect 9-0 record in those games.
Record Watch
After a string of impressive scoring lines in the past week, Jessica Zoltowski ’14 now has 1,442 career points. She trails EC’s all-time scoring leader, Mary Kay Babcock ’82, by just 15 points, giving her the opportunity to take over the number one spot as early as tonight.
