Home Opener
Today’s matchup against the University of Pitt-Bradford will be both the season and home opener for the Purple and Gold. This is the third time since the 2001-02 season that Elmira College basketball has opened their season at Speidel Gymnasium, the others coming in 2010-11 and 2012-13. EC lost both of those contests to SUNY Cortland.
On the Up
The Soaring Eagles have seen their record improve each season since 2009-10. EC posted four wins in 2009-10, followed by five in 2010-11, eight in 2011-12, nine in 2012-13, and 16 last season.
10-Game Win Streak
Last season the EC women put together a 10-game win streak, the first double-digit win streak since the 2006-07 season. In that season, Elmira posted a 13-game win streak and finished the season with a 21-7 record, one of three 20-plus win seasons in Elmira College history.
New Year, New Look
The departed Class of 2014 was responsible for 69.6 percent of Elmira’s total scoring for the 2013-14 season. Seniors Alex Balara ’15 and Kelsey Geisler ’15 as well as junior bigs Meghan Loya ’16 and Karli Pochar ’16 will be tasked with replacing some of that production while the remainder will hopefully be filled by the eight new faces on Elmira’s bench.
Home Sweet Home
Elmira saw more success at home last season than away from Speidel Gymnasium, posting an 8-3 record. This is the best home record since posting an identical 8-3 record in the 2008-09 season.
