MURRAY ATHLETIC CENTER Murray Athletic Center The Murray Athletic Center, better known as the Domes, has been the home of Elmira College Women’s Ice Hockey for the past 14 years. Erected in 1973, the Murray Athletic Center has hosted every home Soaring Eagles ice hockey game for the past 40 years. In the summer of 2001 a major renovation project took place that included new locker rooms and new offices for the hockey program, four new multi-purpose locker rooms and a new sports medicine area. These enhancements to the facility provide the Soaring Eagles with a state-of-the-art locker room which includes individual maple player stalls, a stick room with work bench area, stereo and entertainment center, video editing equipment, coaches offices and meeting area, intercom system, and dehumidification system. The Murray Athletic Center has been one of the premiere Division III hockey facilities in the country and these improvements demonstrate the College’s commitment to provide the student-athletes with the necessary facilities to support the athletics programs at the College. The Soaring Eagles continue to have one of the highest home attendance averages in the country with frequent sellout crowds. A truly unique facility that the Soaring Eagles are happy to call home, and a place where few opponents enjoy much success.

COACHING STAFF Dean Jackson ’03 Head Coach Dean Jackson ’03 enters his third year as the Head Women’s Ice Hockey Coach and his eighth season as the Head Men’s Golf Coach. In his first year at the helm of the women’s ice hockey program, Coach Jackson led the Soaring Eagles to their third NCAA title in program history. The 2012-13 team finished the season with a 24-5-1 overall record; Elmira’s 24 victories are tied for second most in program history. Elmira also finished the season as the No. 1 ranked team in the USCHO.com poll for the first time in eight years. For his efforts Jackson was named the D3HOCKEY.COM National Coach of the Year, CaptainU National Coach of the Year, and was a finalist for the American Hockey Coaches Association (ACHA) Division III Coach of the Year award. In 2012-13, Jackson coached Lauren Sullivan ’13, the nation’s leader in Goals Against Average (GAA) and shutouts. His team ranked first in the nation in scoring defense, second in penalty kill, and fourth in scoring offense. Maybe more impressive is the fact that Jackson became the first NCAA women’s ice hockey coach, in any division, to lead a team to a national championship without a single All-American selection. In 2013-14, Jackson led the Soaring Eagles to another ECAC West Finals appearance as well as Elmira’s second consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. He coached the 2013-14 Defensive Player of the Year in Brooke Wilgosh ’15, as well as three AHCA All-Americans in Wilgosh, Ashley Ryan ’15 and Tanis Lamoureux ’14. His 201314 squad was the only team to earn a win against eventual NCAA Tournament Champions, SUNY Plattsburgh. Prior to his appointment as the Head Women’s Ice Hockey Coach, Jackson served as the Assistant Men’s Ice Hockey Coach at Elmira College from 2007-12, guiding the Soaring Eagles to five consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, including a trip to the NCAA Frozen Four in 2008. He also led Elmira to five ECAC West regular season championships and the 2010-11 ECAC West Conference Championship. During his time with the men’s team, Jackson coached eight AHCA All-Americans, two ECAC West Players of the Year, two ECAC West Defensive Players of the Year, three ECAC West Goalies of the Year, four ECAC West Rookies of the Year, and 20 ECAC West All-Conference selections. Jackson is no stranger to Elmira College as he returns to his alma mater where he enjoyed one of the most successful playing careers in the 40 year history of the Elmira College Men’s Ice Hockey program. While playing for the Soaring Eagles from 1999 – 2003, Jackson became a member of the prestigious 100 point club in 2003, garnered ECAC West Rookie of the Year honors in 1999, was named to the ECAC West All-Conference Second Team in 2003, and was named the ECAC West Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player in 2003. Additionally, Jackson captained the 2003 edition of the Purple and Gold, en route to being named the Elmira College Men’s Ice Hockey Booster Club Player of the Year. In addition to competing as a standout forward with the Men’s Hockey program, Jackson was also a four-year member of the Soaring Eagles Men’s Golf team.

SEASON PREVIEW 2014-15 Elmira College Season Preview The Elmira College women’s ice hockey team entered last season as the team to beat following their national championship in 2012-13, and 21 wins coupled with a runner-up finish in the ECAC West Tournament granted EC an opportunity to repeat as champs. Unfortunately for Elmira, an overtime loss to eventual national runner-ups Norwich University ended their season, but the return of two AHCA All-Americans, as well as five of their top six scorers from a season ago has expectations running high for the 2014-15 season. “No question, we want to win a lot of hockey games and put ourselves in a position to compete for another national title” said Head Coach Dean Jackson ’03. “Our upperclassmen have experienced that thrill of winning a championship and have made it a primary goal to do it again.” To get into that position, EC will once again have to successfully navigate one of the toughest schedules in the country. In addition to a vigorous ECAC West Conference schedule, which amongst a number of quality teams includes a pair of games against the 2014 NCAA Champions Plattsburgh State, Elmira will also squareoff twice each with perennial powerhouses Norwich University and Middlebury College. “Our schedule is a challenge, there is no doubt about that” said Jackson. “But it is going to make us stronger and more prepared for what we will see come playoff time.” FORWARDS EC has the luxury of returning their top scorer, not to mention the fourth highest scorer in the NCAA, in 2014 AHCA First-Team All-American Ashley Ryan ’15. Ryan became the first Elmira player to score 40 or more points in a season since 2008-09, totaling 43 points on 15 goals and 28 assists, and enters the 2014-15 season just three points shy of becoming the ninth player in Elmira College history to record 100 career points. Ryan will certainly be counted on for her offensive production, but as one of four captains, she will also be looked to provide leadership for the 15 underclassmen, including 10 freshmen, on this year’s edition of the Purple and Gold. The Soaring Eagles are fortunate to have Ryan back leading the charge, but there is a vacancy on EC’s first-line offense following the graduation of the second of three Elmira AHCA All-Americans, Tanis Lamoureux ’14, who took her 106 career points, not to mention her tremendous leadership ability, with her. “It’s difficult to replace a player like Tanis Lamoureux with one single player” said Jackson. He continues “but we have a number of players that we believe can collectively fill that void.”

Ashley Ryan ’15

Tasked with replacing Lamoureux’s 38 points from a season ago will be EC’s three other senior forwards, Ashton Hogan ’15, Cassidy Delainey ’15, and Erin Weston ’15. Hogan led the Soaring Eagles in goals scored for the second consecutive season last year, while both Delainey and Weston set career-highs across the board. “We are fortunate to have a veteran presence throughout our first two lines” said Jackson. “They have played a lot of hockey games in their careers and have continued to develop a winning culture here. All four senior forwards will play a critical role in our success this season.” Also look for Olivia Nyström ’16, Johanna Eidensten ’17, and Anna Tude ’17 to step up into more visible roles on the Elmira attack this season. Nyström battled through an injury-plagued season in 2013-14, but according to Jackson, looks as strong as ever on the ice. Eidensten and Tude gained significant experience playing in all 28 games last season and are two players the coaches have raved about during the first week of practice, showing both growth and confidence in their respective games. DEFENSE What was one of Elmira’s thinnest positions, in terms of depth, a season ago is now an area of strength as the Soaring

2014-15 Women’s Ice Hockey

SEASON PREVIEW 2014-15 Elmira College Season Preview Eagles have eight defenders on the roster that Coach Jackson says could play on any given night. “We have a really strong defensive core this year” boasts Jackson. “It was an area on the ice that we targeted and wanted to bulk up and I think we’ve done that.” Leading that core is Elmira’s final AHCA All-American and 2013-14 ECAC West Defensive Player of the Year, Brooke Wilgosh ’15. Wilgosh rose to become one of the best two-way defensemen in the country last season, scoring the third-most points amongst defensemen, 28 on eight goals and 20 assists, and tying for third in the nation in points per game from defensemen at 1.00. Wilgosh will continue to spearhead EC’s first-line defense, but look specifically for Lindsay Burrows ’15, Phoebe Piku ’16, and McKenna Farole ’16 to elevate their respective games to new heights. All strong, physical defenders who can shut down the opposition on any night, the trio will be looked to contribute more offensively after combining for just 13 points last season.

Brooke Wilgosh ’15

Also keep an eye out for a pair of newcomers who could also be impact players on both ends of the rink this season in Rachel Grampp ’18 and Erin Kishoni ’18. EC coaches have raved about the powerful shooting of Grampp that has been on display during the first week of practice while Kishoni’s all-around game will be a welcomed addition to Elmira’s defensive line.

GOALIE The Purple and Gold find themselves in an unfamiliar situation heading into the season as EC currently has a two-way competition going for the starting goaltender spot. Elmira has been fortunate the past few seasons to have upperclassmen waiting in the wings to take over the starting goaltender position once the former starter graduated, but this year is a bit different. “We are young at the goaltender position” said Jackson. “But the good thing for us is that they are each quality goalies and have the ability to start for us.” Vying for that starting nod in Elmira’s opening game are Kierra Pietramala ’17 and newcomer Kelcey Crawford ’18. Pietramala did make two starts during her rookie campaign, but it has yet to be seen how that experience will factor into Coach Jackson’s decision. “It’s too close to call right now” stated Jackson. “But we have a lot of confidence in our goaltending and believe that going through this competition will only help each of them progress further as hockey players.” OVERALL A talented mix of returners and newcomers has the Elmira College women’s ice hockey team looking to hoist the NCAA Championship trophy for the second time in three years. The quest for their fourth title begins this weekend on the very ice, and against the very team, where their season ended nearly eight months ago as the Soaring Eagles open the 2014-15 season at the annual East-West Classic in Northfield, VT. EC kicks-off the 2014 East-West Classic on Saturday, November 1st at 2:00 p.m. with a rematch of last year’s NCAA Quarterfinal game between the Soaring Eagles and Norwich, who enter the weekend ranked third and second, respectively, in the USCHO Preseason Poll. The Cadets pose an immediate test for the Soaring Eagles, but Coach Jackson is looking forward to the challenge. “This is certainly a game that we want to play right out of the gate” said Jackson. “Getting to play one of the best teams in the country this early is a great test to see where we are as a team right now and where we’re headed.”

2013-14 SEASON IN REVIEW 2012-13 SEASON IN REVIEW

2014-15 Women’s Ice Hockey

2013-14 SEASON IN REVIEW 2013-14 Season in Review As the defending national champions, the Elmira College women’s ice hockey team was the one team that every opponent circled on their schedule before the season began. The Soaring Eagles saw every team’s best performance each time they took the ice, but the women withstood the relentless attack from their opposition to the tune of a 21-6-1 overall record, Elmira’s second consecutive 20-win season and ninth in program history, and a 15-1-0 mark in ECAC West play, earning EC a share of the ECAC West regular season crown for the first time since the 2008-09 season. Additionally, the Purple and Gold received their 10th bid into the NCAA Tournament, losing in overtime to eventual national runners-up, Norwich University, in the NCAA Quarterfinals. Elmira College started the 2013-14 campaign as the number one team in the nation, according to the U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO) Preseason Poll, but the Soaring Eagles found early on the challenges they faced as the number one team in the country and the defending national champions. EC went 0-1-1 at the season-opening East-West Classic, however, the Purple and Gold showed how short their memories were as the women proceeded to win their next five games, each by at least two goals. Elmira closed the first half of the season winning eight of their next nine games, their only loss coming at No. 2 Middlebury College, to take an 8-2-1 record into the New Year. After the New Year, the Soaring Eagles were nearly unstoppable. EC won 12 of 2013-14 AHCA All-American Ashley Ryan ’15 their final 14 regular season games, their only losses coming in overtime at No. 2 Middlebury on January 4th and against No. 1 Plattsburgh State on February 8th. Other than that overtime loss to Plattsburgh, the women rolled through the ECAC West, earning a share of the regular season conference title for the first time since 2008-09 after posting a 15-1-0 record. Elmira split the season-series with the Cardinals, handing Plattsburgh their only loss in the 2013-14 season. EC’s 2-0 shutout win on February 7th was the first time since February 9, 2011 that Plattsburgh State had been shutout in a game, an 84-game streak. The Soaring Eagles were led by their three captains, Ashley Ryan ’15, Tanis Lamoureux ’14, and Brooke Wilgosh ’15, who each received ECAC West First Team All-Conference honors as well as AHCA All-American honors. The three players became Elmira’s seventh, eighth, and ninth All-Americans in program history, and the first since former EC great, Jamie Kivi ’10, earned a first-team selection in 2009-10. Additionally, four Soaring Eagles were named All-USCHO following the conclusion of the NCAA Championships, the most of any institution. EC’s three All-Americans, Ryan, Lamoureux, and Wilgosh each earned All-USCHO Second-Team honors while senior netminder Lisa Marshall ’14 picked up a Third Team selection. Ryan, who was tabbed as an AHCA First-Team All-American, led the Soaring Eagles in points for the second consecutive season with 43 points, becoming Elmira’s first 40-point scorer since Kayla Coady ’09 in 2008-09. The junior scored 15 goals and tallied 28 assists, the sixth most in a single-season in EC history, for her 43 points. Both the 28 assists and 43 points established new career-highs for Ryan, as did the 13-game point streak she had to open the season. She ended 2013-14 ranked fourth in the country in points per game (1.54) and second in the nation in assists per game (1.00).

2013-14 AHCA All-American & 100-Point Scorer Tanis Lamoureux ’14

50

Ryan’s line-mate for the last two seasons, Lamoureux, helped create a formidable one-two punch offensively for the Soaring Eagles as Lamoureux joined Ryan in top-10 nationally in points per game and assists per game, ranking 10th and sixth, respectively. The Canton, MI native saved her best season for last as the senior set career-highs with 13 goals, 25 assists, and 38 points, earning her a spot on the ECAC West All-Conference First Team as well as an AHCA SecondTeam All-American selection. The captain of this year’s women’s ice hockey team, Lamoureux became just the eighth Elmira player to tally her 100th career point, doing it on February 15th against Cortland State.

2014-15 Women’s Ice Hockey

2013-14 SEASON IN REVIEW 2013-14 Season in Review Lamoureux will leave EC as one of the best players in program history as her name can be found scattered throughout the record books. Her 106 career points are the seventh most scored by an EC skater and the 62 assists she accumulated throughout her career ranks eighth all-time. Additionally, Lamouruex will leave Elmira tied for sixth all-time with 10 game-winning goals and tied for eighth in EC history with 13 power play goals. The leader of the back line, Wilgosh did far more for the Soaring Eagles than keep opposing offenses at bay. She is fourth on the team in scoring with 28 points, coming in the form of eight goals and 20 assists. Wilgosh set careerhighs in goals, assists, and points, and also set career-highs with four power play goals as well as three game-winning goals. She had a knack for scoring when her team needed it the most, none more important than the game-winning, overtime goal at Oswego State on January 25th, which kept the Soaring Eagles in a first-place tie in the ECAC West standings with Plattsburgh State. Wilgosh asserted herself as one of the best scoring defenders in the country, leading to a First-Team All-American selection, a First-Team ECAC West AllConference selection, and the 2013-14 ECAC West Defensive Player of the Year award. The Regina, Saskatchewan native ranked third in the country in points 2013-14 AHCA All-American & ECAC West per game for defensemen and led the ECAC West in the same category. Defensive Player of the Year Brooke Wilgosh ’15 Wilgosh was part of a defensive unit that’s main focus was keeping opposing offenses away from senior netminder, and ECAC West Second-Team All-Conference honoree, Lisa Marshall ’14. Marshall, after sharing time with former EC great Lauren Sullivan ’13 the previous two seasons, became a full-time starter in 2013-14 and quickly established herself as one of the best goaltenders in the country. The senior netminder ranked amongst the best in the nation as she was third in goals against average (1.26), third in save percentage (.951), and tied for third in shutouts (6). Additionally, Marshall set a new Elmira College single-game record for saves in a game after turning away 56 shots in a 2-1 overtime loss to Plattsburgh State on February 8th. This season will go down as one of the best by an EC goaltender as Marshall’s season totals rank her in second in minutes played (1,333), second in wins (16), second in saves (548), second in shots faced (576), first in save percentage (.951), eighth in goals against average (1.26), and tied for sixth in shutouts (6). For her career, the Powhatan, VA native will rank in the top-five of several career categories as well. Marshall ends her career ranked first in save percentage (.947), second in goals against average (1.22), fourth in saves (904), fifth in shots faced (955), and fifth in minutes played (2,505). For only the fourth time in EC’s decorated history, the same player led the team in goals scored in consecutive seasons. This year, that honor goes to Ashton Hogan ’15, who recorded 17 goals after netting a team-leading 19 goals a season ago. Hogan added a career-high 14 assists to her 17 goals for 31 points, giving the Soaring Eagles three 30-point scorers for the first time since 2009-10. Eight of her 17 goals came on the power play, the most by any Elmira player in three years, which ties her for seventh in single-season power play goals scored. Hogan also put her name in the record books alongside former EC greats, Laura Hurd ’05 and Siobhan Edington ’06, with her four-goal performance against Neumann University on February 22nd, which ties her for second in goals scored in a game. The Purple and Gold received timely contributions from several other skaters throughout the year, including fourth-year defenders Ella Stewart ’14 and Katie Gaskin ’14. Stewart and Gaskin combined for 25 points on five goals and 20 assists, but their most impressive individual performances came on January 25th when the duo combined for seven points, on two goals and five assists, to down Oswego State in EC’s 5-2 win over the Lakers. Stewart tied career-highs for goals and points at two and three, respectively, while Gaskin notched career-highs with four assists and four points. The Soaring Eagles will say goodbye to the six graduating members of the Class of 2014, Lamoureux, Marshall, Stewart, Gaskin, Briana Saltstone ’14, and Jocelynne Hudgins ’14. Since their arrival to campus, the EC women’s ice hockey program has recorded an 81-24-5 overall record, made two appearances in the NCAA Division III women’s ice hockey tournament, and brought home Elmira College’s third NCAA Championship in 2012-13.
