Game Notes Last Time Out: EC moved back to .500 in 2014 after falling to St. Lawrence University, 2-0, last Saturday. The Saints scored twice in the opening half and despite Elmira’s increased offensive pressure throughout the game, kept the Soaring Eagles off the scoreboard. Gabe Carmona ’18 made 13 saves for EC in the loss. Empire 8 Opener: Today’s game against Hartwick College marks the first Empire 8 contest of the 2014 season for EC. The Soaring Eagles have been a .500 team in E8 openers since the 2000 season, going 6-6-2, but have been stronger as of late, going 3-1-1 over the last five years. The Purple and Gold have also gone 4-2-1 in Empire 8 opening games played at Campus Field. Kaz Plays Hero: Sara Kazerouni ’18 picked a great time to score the first goal of her young career as she netted the game-winning goal against Clarkson University last Friday. Kazerouni came on as a substitute in the 75th minute and made her presence known almost immediately, capitalizing on a perfect cross from Allie Olsen ’16 to bury home to game-winner with just 4:05 left on the clock. Looking Ahead: EC continues along their Empire 8 schedule with a road trip to nearby Ithaca College on Wednesday, September 24th at 4:00 p.m.

Empire 8 Opener: Today’s match is also the Empire 8 Conference opener for Hartwick. The Hawks have not excelled in conference-opening matches over the last five years, going 1-3-1 since 2009, but Hartwick does have a 1-1 record in E8 openers played away from home. Offensive Threats: Hartwick has scored 12 goals in five games so far this season, with a third of those coming from Casey Boucher ’18. Boucher also leads the team with nine points, coming in the form of four goals and one assist. Coming in behind Boucher are a trio of Hawks who each have scored twice in Kylie Thayer ’15, Allyson Daniels ’17, and Cami Cleaveland ’17. Millar or Maurer?: The Hawks have two goalkeepers in Annie Millar ’15 and Alley Maurer ’18 who, up until Hartwick’s previous game against Bard, had split time evenly through the first four games of the season. Millar started the game against the Raptors and played all 90 minutes, surrendering just one goal while making four saves. Of the two, Millar owns a better goals against average at 1.67.
