Game Notes Last Time Out: The Elmira College women’s volleyball team is coming off a thrilling five-set win over Hartwick College. After trailing 2-sets-to-1, Elmira rallied against the Hawks to pull out a 3-2 win. The victory over Hartwick gave the Purple and Gold their first Empire 8 Conference win of the season. Heiman’s Career Day: Ashley Heiman ’16 had one of her best weekends as a Soaring Eagle when EC hosted Nazareth College and Hartwick College. She totaled 27 kills and nine blocks in the two matches. However, it was her play against Hartwick that really stood out as she tied her career-high with 17 kills to guide Elmira to their first Empire 8 Conference win of the season. Career Day for Hawksley: In Elmira’s match against Hartwick, Samantha Hawksley ’16 made a career-high 17 digs, eight more than her previous career-high which was set earlier this season against Catholic University. Season High for Hanes: Third-year talent Sami Hanes ’16 continued her superb play as Elmira’s setter this past weekend. Against Harwick, the St. Mary’s, PA native had a season-high 49 assists. Her 49 assists marks the third time this season she has assisted on 40 or more kills and the 11th time she has accomplished this feat in her EC career. Series History: Elmira owns a decisive edge in the series history against Alfred University. The Soaring Eagles enter tonight’s match-up riding a 22-match win streak that dates back to the 2000 season. Looking Ahead: Following tonight’s match against Alfred, Elmira will play in their home finale on Tuesday, October 14th when the Soaring Eagles welcome the Wildcats of Penn Tech to Speidel Gymnasium for a non-conference showdown at 7:00 p.m.

Offensive Threats: Alfred’s focal point on offense will be Chelsea Pietrzykowski ’16 and Mary Lou Patnaude ’17. Pietrzykowski leads the Saxons with 115 kills this season, but Patnaude is not far behind with 100. However, teams have been zeroing in on the two hitters lately as neither player has logged double-digit kills in over two weeks.

Game Notes A Look at the Saxons: The Saxons of Alfred University enter tonight’s matchup 4-17 overall record with an 0-5 mark in Empire 8 Conference play. Alfred is coming off three consecutive losses to Empire 8 teams, dropping matches to Ithaca College, Stevens Tech, and St. John Fisher College.

Strength in Serves: There is no doubt Alfred has struggled this season but one area the Saxons have excelled in has been their ability to get easy points off their serve. Through 21 matches, Alfred has logged 126 services aces, just two aces behind Elmira College and St. John Fisher College, who are tied for fourth most in the E8.
