ORGANIZATIONS ENVIRONMENTALISTS OF COLOR COLLECTIVE AT UCLA (CJF PARTNER)

The Environmentalists of Color Collective at UCLA was brought together as a means of challenging the white-dominated conventions of the contemporary environmental justice movement by co-creating a healing space to amplify and prioritize the narratives, experiences, and needs of Black, Indigenous, and people of color environmentalists. We hope to expand the discourse past race and connect the intersections of class, gender, ability, nationality, and other backgrounds as it relates to environmental justice and sustainability. Our body works toward providing a platform for other marginalized identities within the environmental justice movement by inviting local environmental advocates for speaking engagements, co-creating toolkits for other environmental groups to utilize, and attending/co-sponsoring other events that emphasize inclusion and equity within the environmental justice movement. UC CARBON NEUTRALITY INITIATIVE (CJF PARTNER)

In November 2013, President Janet Napolitano announced the Carbon Neutrality Initiative (CNI), which commits UC to emitting net zero greenhouse gases from its buildings and vehicle fleet by 2025, something no other major university system has done. The initiative builds on UC's pioneering work on climate research and furthers its leadership on sustainable business practices. UC is improving its energy efficiency, developing new sources of renewable energy and enacting a range of related strategies to cut carbon emissions. To achieve carbon neutrality by 2025, UC will need to take bold steps to expand its energy efficiency efforts and dramatically increase its use of energy from renewable sources. UC is moving forward on several different fronts. The UC President’s Carbon Neutrality Initiative Student Fellowship Program funds student-generated projects that support the UC system’s goal to produce zero-net greenhouse gas emissions by 2025. All 10 UC campuses plus the UC Office of the President, UC Agriculture and Natural Resources and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory are participating in the program. CNI was a funding partner for the Climate Justice Forum.

THE GREEN INITIATIVE FUND (CJF PARTNER)

The goal of The Green Initiative Fund (TGIF) is to enable and empower students to take an active role in making UCLA a leader in sustainability. TGIF supports and provides much needed funding for projects that promote the mission of UCLA sustainability, which is to create a culture in which the entire UCLA community is aware of, engaged in, and committed to advancing sustainability. We define sustainability as "the integration of environmental health, social equity, and economic vitality in order to create thriving, healthy, diverse, and resilient communities for this generation and generations to come." The practice of sustainability recognizes how these issues are interconnected and requires a systems approach and an acknowledgement of complexity. TGIF was a funding partner for the Climate Justice Forum. Fund Applications are open! Deadlines are: Main Fund: Friday, 11:59PM, Week 2 each quarter. Mini Fund: Friday, 11:59PM, Weeks 2, 4, 6, 8 each quarter. Capital/Infrastructure Fund: Rolling. Instagram: @tgifucla
