The EC Experience Learning English abroad with EC is more than just classwork! The EC experience is about adventure. It’s about getting a taste of independence and discovering a new country, as well as an opportunity for students to learn things about themselves that they never knew. We help our students become more confident as they explore a city and make it their own. They’ll meet people from all over the world, build lifelong friendships and make memories that will last forever.

Our students at EC are part of our global EC family, and we look after our family from the very beginning. Students and their parents can feel confident in knowing that the EC team is fully trained to ensure the best possible EC experience. Our trained group leaders, staff and teachers are prepared to handle any issues in a quick, professional and organised manner. We constantly review and update our procedures at all our locations, because keeping students safe is our top priority.

In Class

At School

Our teachers make lessons fun, interesting and filled with the tools needed to succeed at EC and in life. To further ensure our students’ safety, we take attendance throughout the day so that we know all our students are accounted for and ready for the day’s exciting activities.

We love our efficient staff who make sure everything is running smoothly during students’ EC experience. You’ve got questions? We’ve got answers! Your EC family is ready to help with anything you or your students might need.

Our goal is to give our students a great learning experience that’s tailored to their needs. This is the chance to have an exciting adventure, explore a new culture, learn new life skills and further improve their language abilities, all while making lasting friends. Welcome to EC!

Learning and Life Skills Our goal is to help you develop key skills for your future learning and development. We have done years of research to find out exactly what our Young Learners look for when studying abroad and also to understand how today’s students want to learn. Our curriculum design specialists have designed courses that ensure students receive the most advanced learning methods and resources throughout their EC experience. We want to teach the skills they need to succeed in the future, both academically and professionally. Success is always our top priority.

That’s why in addition to teaching language skills, we teach life skills. Our research shows that students want and need these skills to achieve their goals and reach their fullest potential in life, education and work. Our curriculum design specialists and teachers make sure that the subjects are interesting, useful and relevant to the world we live in today.

Learning

Placement

The learning experience at EC is more than studying the grammar, vocabulary and expressions students need to pass a test. Our teachers are dedicated to helping students use English with fluency and confidence. They will receive the attention they need and be encouraged to actively participate in class. Teachers will use a range of tasks, including individual and group work, to help students improve their English, increase their confidence, and become fluent across the four core areas: Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening – all while learning some key life skills too! The lessons are interactive and linked with activities outside the classroom so students use and practise the skills and language they learn each day.

To optimise the time your students spend improving their English, we offer the option of an online placement test before arrival. This way we are ready to start teaching the students from day one in the classroom. The placement test allows us to ensure the materials prepared match the students' needs.

6

Life Skills

General English

These skills are a set of very important tools students can use to meet any of the challenges or demands of day-to-day life, now and in the future. Our Young Learner curriculum is built to teach English while helping to develop these four essential life skills:

All our programmes include a course in General English. The minimum length of the course is one week.

1. Critical Thinking This is the ability to analyse and evaluate a problem or situation in an objective way. Using critical thought, students will be able to form stronger arguments and come up with better solutions. 2. Collaboration This is an important skill to have at school and at work. Being able to collaborate effectively means working together and cooperating with others to create something or tackle a problem. 3. Creativity

• Lessons per week: 20 lessons (1 lesson = 45 minutes; 15 hours per week) • Students per class: Maximum 15

Success At the end of the EC experience, students will receive an official EC certificate that proves they have put in the right amount of effort and hard work to complete their course. Students will go home with greater confidence in their abilities, improved fluency in English, and the core skills they need to succeed in a global community.

Creativity is the act of turning imagination and ideas into reality. It’s the ability to think about and see things differently so that students can express themselves in new, interesting ways. 4. Communication The ability to express oneself and share ideas in a clear, effective and constructive way is a priceless skill that will take students far in life. Get ready to conquer the world – one conversation at a time!

7

Accommodation We offer a great choice of safe and comfortable accommodation in all our destinations. Students can live like a local with a homestay or stay in a local hotel in Malta to make the most of their English learning experience.

Homestay

Nutrition

This option lets students stay in a local home and discover a different lifestyle and culture. They will practise their language skills in a natural setting, while enjoying all the comforts and pleasures of a warm, welcoming home.

With days full of activities, it’s important that our students have the right nutritional balance. We make sure to offer the right meals to keep them healthy, focused and energised. All our programmes include hot and cold meals, and we cater for any special dietary requirements.

AVAILABLE IN: Brighton, Bristol, Cambridge, Manchester, Oxford, Dublin, Boston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, San Diego, San Francisco, Washington, DC, Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Malta

Amazing Activities Our action-packed activity programmes have something exciting for everyone, whether it’s their first time in the destination or the 100th time. Our Activity Leaders will help the students to explore the local towns and cities and will show students great places for exploring, sightseeing and shopping. They will also participate in the activities, so students can take full advantage of their knowledge even while they’re having fun. Students will spend time learning about the destination and its culture while making some great new friends and taking some of the best selfies! We offer personalised activity programmes for our Closed Group Programmes so you can mix and match the activities and excursions to create a custom-tailored programme perfectly suited to your students’ needs. You can choose from a selection of half day, full day and evening activities to suit the group's budget.

9

Off-Season Programmes Our Off-Season Programmes are aimed at students who have longer breaks at different times of the year. We offer programmes at EC Malta in the spring and autumn, coinciding with students’ typical spring and autumn break times. At EC, we work to accommodate students all over the world to help them achieve their fluency goals. These programmes offer the same excitement, fun and activities to help students improve their English skills, increase their confidence, and place them on the right path for success. This is a great option for both groups and individual students. We also offer Day Programmes for families travelling together whose children don't need accommodation. This is the perfect opportunity for younger learners to improve their English, while parents can either enrol in an adult course at EC or simply relax and explore a stunning destination.
