LEARNING AND LIFE SKILLS OUR GOAL IS TO HELP YOU DEVELOP KEY SKILLS FOR YOUR FUTURE LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT.
We have completed extensive research to find out exactly what our Young Learners look for when studying abroad and also to understand how you, today’s students, want to learn. Our curriculum design specialists have designed courses that ensure you receive the most advanced learning methods and resources throughout your EC experience. You will take lessons which build up to a weekly project presented on Friday. We want to teach you the skills you need to succeed in the future, both academically and professionally. Your success is always our top priority.
6
That’s why in addition to teaching you language skills, we teach you life skills. Our research shows that students like you want and need these skills to achieve your goals and reach your fullest potential in life, education and work. Our curriculum design specialists and teachers make sure that your subjects are interesting, useful and relevant to the world you live in today. Our unique set of Premium Programmes (see page 15) are designed to set you on the path to professional and academic success.
Enhance your learning
Learn important skills
LEARNING
LIFE SKILLS
The learning experience at EC is more than studying the grammar, vocabulary and expressions you need to pass your next test. Your teachers are dedicated to helping you use English with fluency and confidence.
Think of these skills as a set of very important tools you can use to meet any of the challenges or demands of day-today life, now and in the future. Our Young Learners curriculum is built to teach you English while helping you to develop these four essential life skills:
You will receive the attention you need and be encouraged to actively participate in class. Your teachers will use a range of tasks, including individual and group work, to help you improve your English, increase your confidence, and become fluent across the four core areas: Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening – all while learning some key life skills too! Your lessons will be interactive and linked with activities outside the classroom so that you use and practise the skills and language you learn each day.
Make new friends
1. Critical Thinking This is the ability to analyse and evaluate a problem or situation in an objective way. Using critical thought, you will be able to form stronger arguments and come up with better solutions. 2. Collaboration This is an important skill to have at school and at work. Being able
to collaborate effectively means working together and cooperating with others to create something or tackle a problem. 3. Creativity Creativity is the act of turning your imagination and ideas into reality. It’s the ability to think about and see things differently so that you can express yourself in new, interesting ways. 4. Communication The ability to express yourself and share ideas in a clear, effective and constructive way is a priceless skill that will take you far in life. Get ready to conquer the world – one conversation at a time!

PLACEMENT
GENERAL ENGLISH
SUCCESS
On your first day at EC, you’ll have time to settle in and take a placement test to find out your current level of English. This test determines your proficiency and helps us to place you amongst students at the same level and ability so that you will feel comfortable expressing yourself and participating in class.
All our programmes include a course in General English. The minimum length of the course is one week. • Lessons per week: 20 lessons (1 lesson = 45 min; 15 hrs per week)
At the end of your EC experience, you will receive an official EC certificate that proves you have put in the right amount of effort and hard work to complete your course. You will go home with greater confidence in your abilities, improved fluency in English, and the core skills you need to succeed in a global community.
• Students per class: Maximum 15

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a central part of life in the EC world. We believe it’s our duty to be actively involved in the communities that have welcomed us and helped EC to grow into the international presence it is today. Our Fundraising Policy allows us to match funds raised by our staff for global and local campaigns, and our centres are actively involved in local community projects for charities of their choice. From school-specific initiatives such as environmental clean-ups, volunteering and fundraising for local charities, to larger projects like our partnership with United World Schools (UWS) to build schools in the world’s poorest regions, giving back is close to the heart of the EC family. EC IN CAMBODIA In early 2016, we teamed up with United World Schools (UWS), an international charity dedicated to improving the lives and prospects of children in some of the world’s poorest regions by giving them the opportunity to receive an education. When we met with the charity, we knew they were the right organisation, and we agreed to work together to build a school in Cambodia. In February 2017, we sent a team of EC staff volunteers on a 10-day trip to Ban Houy, Cambodia, a remote village that’s home to more than 200 children and their families. We were all eager to see the new school where the children of Ban Houy would spend their time learning their national language (Khmer), as well as numeracy, music, arts and crafts. The EC team spent time with the local families and the children, and shared different teaching methods with the teachers at the new school. Everyone involved in the trip found the whole experience to be both humbling and very rewarding, especially after seeing the children’s joy in having a school to attend.
In June 2018, we completed our second school at Don Lo village, just a few miles from the school at Ban Houy; and in 2019, we plan to send a team to visit both schools to once again work with the children and teachers. We also brought Cambodia to EC by sponsoring two UWS team members to study English at EC Brighton for six weeks. The team members enjoyed their study time and not only took back several new ideas for the local teachers in Cambodia, but also a much-improved ability to speak English with volunteers. At our schools, we are introducing the work we do with UWS through a series of talks and the development of new teaching materials. By understanding the importance of ‘teaching the unreached’ – providing schools for the 60 million uneducated children around the world – our students, through awareness raising and fundraising, can truly help make a difference to young lives. This initiative is very important to EC and we want to continue helping to provide education to children around the world. We have once again pledged that for every student who completes a booking with EC, we will donate 1 Euro (€1) to our CSR initiatives like EC in Cambodia. Our goal is to keep working with dynamic organisations like UWS to build more schools and help more children to fulfil their dreams of an education. This pledge is our way of saying ‘thank you’ to every student who chooses EC to help them achieve their dreams of fluency. It’s how we will help change the world to a better place for those we may never meet. It’s how we give back.

STUDENT TESTIMONIALS
“It was amazing and interesting. I liked all activities very much! I had a lot of positive emotions and I like EC programme very much. Thank you very much for your work with us! I love you so much EC and teachers!” Kseniya, Russian
“The lessons are dynamic, and I liked to talk about different subjects. But what I loved was living together with people from other countries, because we learned about other cultures and how to deal with that. It’s good to have freedom to know the city and see the tourist points. The guides are respectful and friendly.” Ana, Brazilian
“I improved a lot in talking. I liked the nice people in my accommodation and my new friends came from Russia, Spain and Brazil. I will remember the friendship from my stay.” Beatrice, Italian “I picked up a little vocabulary, but I most improved in my comprehension. I very much enjoyed class because of the laid-back, not-like-school atmosphere. My favourite activity was laser tag. My host parents were great; they spoke no English, so communication was difficult. In the end I learned a lot of French just from talking to my host parents.” Harry, American Studied French in Montreal
“I had a great time due in part to the great staff employed who are very supportive and project a great attitude onto the students.” Justin, American Studied French in Montreal

“I learned a lot; all of the activities are cool. My new friends come from all countries around the world. I will remember everything about my stay.” Denis, Russian
“The things I most liked in the programme are about the friends I made here. Living with other guys at the residence frightened me at the beginning, but it turned to be amazing meeting everyone, knowing them and sharing experiences. The classes were engaging, the teachers were so patient and fun that got our attention during the classes.” Carlo, Brazilian
“The experience of living two weeks in a residence was one of the best things I’ve ever done. The lessons were involving… The extra activities were so fun. The team of staff were respectful and funny. The city is gorgeous.” Maria, Brazilian
