WHY THE UNITED STATES?
welcoming international students from all over the world
Bright lights and big cities... Many people dream of life in the United States, a life with possibility and choice and variety. For students, it’s the experience of a lifetime that’s rich in opportunity with institutions from the east coast to the west coast waiting to welcome you and help you on your pursuit of educational growth.
4
HUGE RANGE OF STUDY OPTIONS
LIFE ON CAMPUS
Whether you want to study the most common, or the most uncommon subject, you can be sure to find a range of options in the US. Opportunity and imagination are in rich supply in US colleges and universities. All you must do is take advantage of them.
American campus life has been made famous by the movies, and it’s every bit as exciting in reality. There are so many groups, whether you’re looking for something recreational, such as Ultimate Frisbee, something creative such as a Camera Club or join the college magazine team. There’s something for all interests!
TOP UNIVERSITIES
OPPORTUNITIES AND FLEXIBILITY
American universities are famous all over the world for their standard of education, excellence in teaching and a distinguished, learned faculty. It’s no wonder than students not only dream about but strive to one day be among the alumni of these brilliant institutions.
With the opportunity to study minor and major subjects, students can study two or more unrelated subjects to build towards their qualification. They may also choose related subjects if they wish. This allows students control and independence over their own education.

USA PATHWAYS what is usa pathways?
With the USA Pathways program, we give you focused learning and academic support for your future progression to a university or community college within the US. You will be assessed before you begin the English course to determine your current English level.
1
This enables us to give you an estimate of the number of weeks necessary to bring you to the required level for your college or university. You will also be regularly assessed to ensure your progression is going well. To compliment these classes, some EC schools also offer Special Focus Classes in Academic English. You can add these classes to your English classes for 1 to 10 weeks and become versed in the academic language. This course gives you the tools and know-how to combine intensive English language learning with academic study skills training, so you will be able to understand and respond confidently and efficiently in your education.

ENTER A UNIVERSITY OR COMMUNITY COLLEGE WITHOUT TOEFL OR IELTS When you reach the college or university’s required English level with EC, we will prepare your academic report and letter of recommendation. This means less stress for you!
GAIN INTERNATIONAL LIFE EXPERIENCE Besides the academic improvements, you will get international life experience. You will develop professional contacts within the industry, practise the knowledge you have acquired and live like a local in America.
LEARN HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR ACADEMIC SKILLS Amplify your professional English skills and boost your vocabulary. You will learn how to improve your grammar points and how to be confident when speaking in public. All this will help prepare you to succeed in the global community.
AMAZING OPPORTUNITIES America is a multicultural country, with a thriving economy, which means there are lots of opportunities to work and do business there. Optional Practical Training is a temporary employment which may be available to students on an F-1 visa, if the employment is related to their major. This can apply pre- and postcompletion of studies.
COMMUNITY COLLEGE TO UNIVERSITY TRANSFER With the Transfer Admission Guarantee, you can begin your studies in a community college and transfer to a university to finish them. This place can be secured a year before you join the university and is discussed more in 2+2 Agreements on p.34.

BENEFITS OF A COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND 2+2 AGREEMENTS Community colleges are a popular choice for students studying abroad. This is because as well as having an open and friendly culture, community colleges satisfy many other needs of foreign students. Many of them also work with your progression to college in what is known as a 2+2 Agreement.
the benefits of a community college
the 2+2 agreement
IT COSTS LESS
The 2+2 Agreement is where students study for 2 years at a community college and 2 years at a university, earning a 4-year bachelor’s degree at the end. This route to a bachelor’s degree is very popular not only with foreign students, but with American students also. In fact, American colleges and universities are famous for the ease with which their students can transfer from one to another.
The tuition fees at a community college are lower than those at a university, often costing as much as 50% less. Moving abroad is already a big investment, and college or university is another expense. These can be eased here while still obtaining an associate degree.
THE STANDARD OF EDUCATION Due to smaller classes at community colleges, students benefit from greater attention from their tutors. This makes it easier to ask questions, find solutions and thereby progress quickly and smoothly through your course.
INTRODUCTION TO COLLEGE LIFE The smaller classes have an added benefit. They provide all the pros of college life on a smaller scale, allowing you to slowly get used to life and learning in a foreign country. You will adapt more easily to speaking, listening and understanding lectures in English every day.
SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT As you will get to know your classmates and faculty, you will notice the level of support present also. The intimate nature of the community colleges means that the attendees naturally want to help each other and see each other succeed. This is a great base for later moving on to a career path or university.
WHAT IS IT?
WHAT COLLEGES ALLOW THIS? There are over 1,100 community colleges in the US, so you will have plenty of options. You can study 2 years at a community college in the same city as your future university. Or perhaps you wish to do 2 years at a community college in one state and move to another for university. The choice is yours!
IS IT A COMMON THING TO DO? Yes! Thanks to the nature of relatively free movement between higher education institutions, and the added cost saving benefit of the 2+2 Agreement, it is very common. Your EC admissions contact will help you with your university selection process and the application process, making it easier to navigate.

FAQ Q1 Is there a fee to use the EC college and university admission service? No, if students go to our partner community colleges, there is no service fee from EC.
Q2 Can students use EC’s admission service without booking an English course? No, this service is for EC students studying for a minimum of 8 weeks or more.
Q3 Can students have an I-20 issued by the community college? No, the student needs to apply for a F-1 visa with an I-20 issued by EC first, then transfer their SEVIS after finishing their English course at EC.
Q4 Can students receive an original CLA? Yes, students receive the original CLA once they arrive at EC school. However, if they need to receive the letter upon Visa application, EC can send it together with I-20 by courier. Agents/Students must inform EC before the I-20 is sent out.
Q5 By when do students need to reach required English level? It's always recommended to finish the EC course 1 month before the community college or university semester start date, in order to facilitate the SEVIS transfer.
Q6 Can students change the semester start date? Yes, if students decide to change the semester start date prior to arrival, agents need to inform EC Admissions. If they decide to change after arrival, students need to speak to EC school staff or the community college. Most colleges only allow one free deferral per student.
Q7 What would happen if the student does not meet the required level before orientation? Students can extend EC English course and postpone the semester start date.
Q8 Can students go back to their home country for vacation before the semester start date? Yes, but students need to complete their SEVIS procedure before vacation. They need to get a new I-20 from the community college before leaving USA. (it is same as standard SEVIS transfer procedure)
Q9 Can EC students apply for conditional acceptance without a TOEFL/IETLS score? Yes, students can speak to EC school staff and get advice to choose and apply for a community college or university program.
Q10 When should a student start the application process? Most community colleges promise EC a quick turnaround time but we still recommend students to start the preparation at least 2 months before the EC start date.
