Practical Skills • The visual language tasks have played a key role in making me practice and open my eyes to new methods of image-­‐making.

• Through this I found a real interest in using shape, combined with texture, to make images. I feel like I have now found a process that I really enjoy and would like to pursue.

• On the other hand I will not remain stuck on using shape, as through these tasks I have deBinitely seen the value of experimentation and taking risks – something I will strive to continue doing.

Practical Skills • Using roughs throughout Visual skills briefs, as well as drawing exhaustively in early visual language tasks has deBinitely improved my practical skills – not only in terms of drawing, but also being more relaxed in producing drawings for the purpose of practice rather than making everything perfect.

Practical Skills • My practical skills have also improved due to the general better understanding I have gained of different digital and analogue image-­‐making processes in workshops – these include Photoshop, InDesign, screen-­‐printing and digital printing.

Practical Skills • Evaluating all of these developments I have made in my image-­‐making skills makes me realize that all of this can be seen in my most recent Binished work – the visual narratives picture book.

• It seems that the visual language tasks in shape and texture, drawing more and learning how to using roughs, and taking part practical workshops have all led to a point at which I can produce work that is at a much higher standard of crafting than any of my previous work on and off the course, and therefore that I am much much happier with!

Personal Development • Before I was not very conBident in talking about or presenting my own work, but now through taking part in crits more regularly and having tutorials, as well as talking to my peers in the studio, I feel I can give people a more coherent understanding of my work and therefore beneBit more from this type of feedback.

• Generally I feel like my use of the blog has improved greatly. From my initial feedback of it being too ‘wordy’ and needing to be more visual, I feel like I have gained a better understanding of what holds relevance and deBinitely transformed it into a more visual representation of my development and progress during briefs.

• Using my blog more regularly has also helped my better evaluate and reBlect my own progress, and played a key role in helping me solve problems throughout recent briefs.

Personal management skills • I feel like I deBinitely improved in my time management, as well as balancing work and play.

• Making timetables of the next couple of weeks/month, has deBinitely helped, as well as making regular lists of the work that I need to complete that day, or the next day.

• Spending more time in the studio has also helped me stay more productive, and has allowed me to go home some nights and rest without having to worry about work.

Study Skills • The Cop study tasks have helped me to develop my study skills, through these I have learnt: • How to effectively analyse, summarise and evaluate text.

• How to source my own images and research in reference to a particular subject.

• How to analyse images with relevance to their social, political and historical contexts.

• About the harvard referencing system, and therefore how to create an academic bibliography and appropriately cite quotations within an essay.

• How to effectively structure an academic essay.

Illustra)on • In general through studio prac)ce, PPP and context of prac)ce I have gained a be9er and more rounded concept of what we can call illustra)on. As well as all the different contexts, purposes and visual forms it can take.

• In the ini)al PPP sessions it was make clear that illustra)on is not just drawing but image making. I have been opened up to using other methods other than just pen to paper in order to communicate my ideas like making masks, using shape, crea)ng 3D illustra)ons…

• I also now feel I can iden)fy the difference between just drawing or pain)ng ect. and a piece of illustra)on. It has to communicate something, or solve a problem and oEen this is best achieved through using your own visual signature, or a specific aesthe)c to reflect a certain tone or atmosphere – not by just drawing what you see and crea)ng a photo-­‐real or highly representa)onal drawing.

Professional Practice • Through PPP I have been able to reBlect on the kind of work I like on the basis of a number of different criteria: context, purpose, product, aesthetic and process. I think through this I have been able to better understand my own personal taste in illustration, and how I would like my own work to look and work within a professional context.

Professional Prac)ce • Through Big Heads, in combina)on with PPP I have also gained a be9er understanding as to my own ambi)ons as an illustrator and what I would like to be producing beyond the degree.

• I have a lot of interest in editorial work, as well picture books and zines. Something I am also exploring the idea of is illustra)on within the context of a product – such as t-­‐shirt or plate. I enjoy the playful and func)onal nature of this type of illustra)on.
