Vertical City An Ecological, Resilient Masterplan for Hainan Man-Made Eco-Island Date: 2016.9---2016.12 Location: Haikou, Hainan Island, China Type: Research Urban Design Studio Collaborator: Tai Feng, Shuo Wang Instructor: Thom Mayne& Ung-Joo Scott Lee(Morphosis Architects) Size:27,000,000sqft Responsibility: Case Research, Combinatory form study, 3D-Modeling, Partial Drawing, Diagrams Specification: It's an ecological, resilient masterplan for Man-made Eco-island in Hainan province in China. It will be a destination prototype for international, cruise-based eco-tourism. The island's eco-design incorporates local and regional consideration by addressing local demands for additional leisure and recreational landscapes, by facing the challenge of the extreme weather condition in Hainan island, and by creating multiple transportation methods, including air train, transit cruise, ferry, and inter-island light rail. This Man-made island could be a sustainable city both in good weather and bad weather. And we would like to create a city not only for people to have a leisure during good weather but also during the extreme weather condition.

Combinatory Form Study The ideas of combinatory urbanism is to solve the urban problem with the support of combinatory form. It considers all urban systems as autonomous layers that organize themselves. When all the layers are added up together, new complex gesture of complex form and spontaneous coherence will come out to the urban space. The process of this method shows below.. 432 Park Avenue Revitalization Research New High-rise Typology for New York City Date: 2015.9-2015.12 Location: 432 Park Avenue, New York City Type: High-rise Design Instructor: Ali Rahim Collaborator: Jieming Jin, Yuchen Wen Specification: Designed to address the changing population demographics of new york city, this tower serves as a land-locked conceptual equivalent to the contemporary cruise ship, offering a hybird of housing and recreation to the city’s increasing number of people. Organized as a large scale mixed-use complex development in downtown Manhattan, the building is divided into a series of multi-functional parts with vastly different qualities that will create a comfortable life for elderly residents. The design thus creates opportunities for different types of programs to coexist. The program is different in each vertical section of the structure: residential units on top, entertainment and public areas at the bottom, coming together to form a hybirdized space in the middle. The tower would also provide medical clinics, recreation and fitness facilities, a shopping mall, a museum, theaters, and other amenities, including a hotel for people when family members visit..

SYMBIOSIS CITY The Adaptive Redevelopment Of Old Factory and Bus Station Date: 2012.3---2012.5 Location: Old Factory and Main Bus Station, Xiamen, China Type: Research Urban Design Studio Instructor: Shaofeng Wu Collaborator: Individual Specification: With the rapid development of the city, old factories are gradually deserted by modern city and people because they are usused with simple spatial quality and with functions unrelevant to surroundings. Based on the biological symbiotic theory symbiosis city develop it into an urban symbiotic strategy. It focus on the relationships between old and new buildings, built areas and outdoor space, the exterior and the interior, and functional sequence. Different from common urban strategy, our design aims to build up new buildings as new media with old factories and surroundings to create and enclosure new interesting outdoor space and road systems which we call symbiotic space. Due to that, the interface between old factories and surroundings could be Activated, and people will have the communication with it. Based on the systems of symbiotic space and different functiondemands and development pressure, the whole strategy are featured with sustability.

The project aims to reorganize the simple boring relationship of public space not only on the site but also around it by adding new buildings to enrich the original space.(image 1,2,3) Also, Under different purpose of development, the height, density, functionality of new buildings will be changed and the whole typology will be changed accordingly. Finally, New buildings and old buildings could connect with surroundings at different levels.

Urban Connector Research On New High-Rise Typology for Mixed-use Development Date: 2012.9-2012.11 Location: Jimei district, Xiamen, China Type: High-rise Design Instructor: Shaofeng Wu Collaborator: Nian Liu Specification: The site is located in the University City, where will be the busiest and most famous central area in the future. Also, it is the transfer zone for ground transportation, especially the bus and the elevated bus rapid transit. This project explores two questions. One is how to think about the relation between a commercial podium and outdoor ground area. Another is how to rethink the plan and space of the office tower. After researching on the economy, population, consumption, and comparison with many other cases in China, my proposal is to build up a transit-oriented, mixed-use, high-rise building that uplifts the commercial podium to return the ground to people. Also, the elevated podium serves as not only the part of the highrise, but also the connector that attracts and distributes people coming to this area. For the office tower, the tower space should not only be horizontal and is connected by the elevator, but also it could be vertical and is connected by stairs.

Organize Exhibition Space
Specification: The site is located within Xiamen Garden Expo Area where it needs a sulptural building with geometric figure. To design a symbolic museum in this area, we need to take care of the key elements in surrounding atmosphere as well as creating beautiful sceneries for tourists. I propose to initially manipulate and organize exhibition spaces so that the shape of the museum will come out.
