On behalf of the Douglas County Agriculture Association and the entire Board of Directors (known as the Fairboard), I would like to welcome you to the 2024 Douglas County Fair! For many years the fair has been the event that brings people together. Not only residents of Douglas County, but visitors from throughout the state. Multiple generations of families have enjoyed creating memories at the fair. Each year our Ag Association challenges the Fairboard to make our fair bigger and better. We rely on favorite events that have occurred in the past while trying to keep the fair fresh and new. We are confident that the 2024 fair will include both. We are excited to announce that 2024 will include a whole new carnival. While our previous carnival served us well for many years, it was time for a refreshing change. Crescent City Amusements will be bringing a clean new look to our fair with new rides and games for all ages to enjoy. We are also excited to bring back our Tractor Pull on Wednesday evening. Red River Valley Pullers will be providing a great pulling event with large tractors and trucks. Adults will be $5 with children free. It will be at the Glenwood State Bank grandstand. Our other featured event will be our concert on Saturday evening featuring Chris Janson. This will be a paid event but should be a great experience for those attending at the Glenwood State Bank grandstand.

As a Fairboard, we want to provide as much entertainment as possible, and your entrance admission allows you to see and experience many things. This year’s free band lineup on the Alomere Stage includes Raised On Radio appearing on Wednesday evening, The Fabulous Armadillos on Thursday evening, The Holy Rocka Rollaz on Friday evening and closing out our 2024 fair will be the party band Verge on Saturday evening. There will also be music throughout the day including Rick Fiedler, Katy’s Swing Band, Nathan Neuman and the Peterson Farm Brothers. These acts will be on the Hubbard Radio or Knute Nelson stages.

Other entertainment will be the Sheriff’s K-9 demonstrations, A performance by Andria Theatre and demonstrations by the Raptor Center as well as the Chahinkapa Zoo. There

will also be the Quality Equipment Lawn Mower Demo and Bohemian Tractor Pull (free grandstand and competitor entry) and so much more.

Our senior citizens will be demonstrating their talents and also making ethnic foods to sell. There will be many other food vendors as well.

And we cannot forget a very intricate part of our fair: our very talented 4-H clubs. Along with their farm animals, they display many other talents through their projects. We are very proud of our 4-H members and all they provide to our fair.

You can find the entire fair schedule and much more about our fair by visiting our website at www.dcmnfair. com You can also purchase daily and season passes including the bargain season pass ticket for only $15 – what a great option! Ride wristbands and schedules along with Tractor Pull, Viking Speedway Demolition Derby and Chris Janson tickets may also be purchased online at www.dcmnfair. com.

We look forward to seeing you at the 2024 Douglas County Fair where Memories To Last A Lifetime are Made. Let’s share the fun!

Peterson Farm Brothers Peterson Farm ready to entertain fairgoers entertain

The Peterson Farm Brothers, who found fame through social media, will be at this year’s Douglas County Fair. Well, at least two of the three brothers will be there.

Their show will take place Friday, Aug. 16, at 5 p.m.

The trio was originally known for making ag-related parodies and music videos. Now, they share their farming lifestyle on their social media platforms. They regularly post educational and entertaining videos about farming.

Some of their more famous parodies include I’m Farming and I Grow It (I’m

Sexy and I Know It parody), Farmer Style (Gangnam Style parody) and All I Do Is Farm (All I Do Is Win parody).

The Peterson brothers farm together with their families near Assaria, Kansas. They produce their entertaining and educational videos on their YouTube channel and post farming and video updates to their social media pages – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and Snapchat.

Aside from their productions on social media, the brothers travel around the country to speak and entertain. They also blog about misunderstood

topics in agriculture and open up their farm for tours, weddings and overnight stays on Airbnb.

Their hope is to educate the general public on where their food comes from and what a real Midwest family farm looks like.

Their show is sponsored by Farm Bureau, JB Tractors, Stu WoodEdina Realty, Pro-Ag Farmers Co-op of Garfield, Douglas County Dairy Association and Douglas County Corn and Soybean Growers Association.

Verge to keep the party Verge party going on Saturday night on

Verge is a rock/pop band with eight musicians. They bring the songs to life with multiple costume changes, and some are even lighted.

This high-energy group will keep the party going after the Chris Janson concert.

They will perform on the Alomere Health Main stage beginning at 9:30 p.m. Their concert is open to all fairgoers.

The band’s members are as follows, according to the band’s website:

Cherry (lead vocals): She hasn’t stopped singing since her solo performance of God Bless America at age 8. Among a lifetime of performing, she’s toured Europe in the Sound of America Choir, played the lead role of Maria in West Side Story and has won many singing awards before joining Verge as lead vocalist in 2021. Cherry loves singing everything from classical to heavy metal.

Becky (vocals/dancer): She joined Verge as vocalist and dancer in 2018 and has an award-studded career as a middle eastern dancer and figure skater, including performing with Ammala Dance Company, Sisters of the Sahara Dance Troupe, Le Cirque Rouge Performance Troupe and Ansari’s Mediterranean Grill.

Freddie (vocals/dancer): She started her singing and dancing early with school choirs and The Grand Avenue Dance Company in St. Paul. She’s had a love of performing ever since. She joined Verge in 2018, dazzling in 6-foot lighted wings as “Freddie Gaga.”

Tom (bass/vocals/band manager): He started playing the stand-up bass at age 8 before starting his first rock band at age 16. He took some time off from his rock band career to be a nuclear submarine officer, which included surfacing through the ice four times at the North Pole. He resurfaced and was a founding member of Verge in 2012.

Bob (country rock vocals/rhythm guitar); His love of music started with the British Invasion and went on to include southern rock to metal and everything in between. This cowboy was brought in for some good ol’ country flair and acoustic rhythm. Lately, he’s been spotted with a sweet little red hot rod strapped around his shoulder. He joined the group in 2021.

Matt (lead guitar/vocals): He honed his unique and impressive playing style in numerous bands, including Lemon Trophy, Affect and Good Question before founding Verge with Tom in 2012. He’s a master surgeon on the guitar, with blazing solos, two-handed tapping and a rocking charismatic stage presence.

Shawn (drums): His first kit was his mother’s tupperware set upon which the tunes he played were inspired by Bam Bam Flintstone and Chris Partridge. His recorded original music has been broadcast on 93X, KFAI and KFAN. In the early 2000s, he switched to cover bands including Slapshot, Triple Dog Dare and Hitfaced.

Dave (lead guitar/vocals): His dazzling skills on lead guitar are surpassed only by his magnetism on the stage. He is a lifetime rockstar who has performed hundreds of shows including national tours and published albums in bands prior to joining Verge in 2021.

Fair offers plenty of activities for kids

From face painting and balloon art to a rock climbing wall, book reading and a sensory play area, there are plenty of activities for kids at the Douglas County Fair.

Here are just a few of the many things that can be found during the four-day event:

FFA Barnyard – Children love to see all the different animals at the fair each year. Join the local FFA groups in the barnyard to learn about agriculture and participate in farmto-market activities.

Rock climbing – A free rock climbing wall will be set up on Saturday, Aug. 17. Kids can climb free from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Water wars – Free water wars water fight activity will take place Saturday, Aug. 17, from noon to 4 p.m.

Bike giveaway – Daily bike giveaways including the Hubbard Radio Great Kid’s Bike Giveaway at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 15.

Kidway – Many rides for a variety of ages are available on the Kidway. Enjoy the ferris wheel, the slides, the merry-goround and more.

There will also be daily K-9 demonstrations and of course, all the animals to look at in the 4-H barns.

Staff from the University of Minnesota Raptor Center will have a presentation at this year’s fair.

With an owl, hawk, falcon and possibly an eagle, the presentation will take place Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 2 p.m.

The Raptor Center’s mission, according to their website, “is to ensure the health of raptors and the world we share.”

Their specialized hospital admits around 1,000 birds of prey each year with a goal to rehabilitate and release them back into the wild.

They also train future generations of veterinarians and wildlife rehabilitators, conduct ground-breaking research on raptors and the environment and educate and inspire thousands of people each year through their unique educational programming.
