The Ministry of the Word

Old Testament Reading

Isaiah 42:1-9

Lector: Elder Rashid Walker

Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen, in whom my soul delights; I have put my spirit upon him; he will bring forth justice to the nations. He will not cry or lift up his voice, or make it heard in the street; a bruised reed he will not break, and a dimly burning wick he will not quench; he will faithfully bring forth justice. He will not grow faint or be crushed until he has established justice in the earth; and the coastlands wait for his teaching. Thus says God, the Lord, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and what comes from it, who gives breath to the people upon it and spirit to those who walk in it: I am the Lord, I have called you in righteousness, I have taken you by the hand and kept you; I have given you as a covenant to the people, a light to the nations, to open the eyes that are blind, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, from the prison those who sit in darkness. I am the Lord, that is my name; my glory I give to no other, nor my praise to idols. See, the former things have come to pass, and new things I now declare; before they spring forth, I tell you of them.

Lector: The Word of the Lord.

Response: Thanks be to God.

The Epistle - Lector: Evangelist Abbe Thompson

1 Timothy 3:8-16

Deacons likewise must be serious, not double-tongued, not indulging in much wine, not greedy for money; they must hold fast to the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. And let them frst be tested; then, if they prove themselves blameless, let them serve as deacons. Women likewise must be serious, not slanderers, but temperate, faithful in all things. Let deacons be married only once, and let them manage their children and their households well; for those who serve well as deacons gain a good standing for themselves and great boldness

in the faith that is in Christ Jesus. I hope to come to you soon, but I am writing these instructions to you so that, if I am delayed, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and bulwark of the truth. Without any doubt, the mystery of our religion is great: He was revealed in fesh, vindicated in spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among Gentiles, believed in throughout the world, taken up in glory.

Lector: The Word of the Lord.

Response: Thanks be to God.

The Gospel+

A reading from the Holy Gospel of our Lord according to Luke 10:1-8.

Response: Glory to you, Lord Christ.

Gospeller: Overseer Allan H. Gray

After this the Lord appointed seventy others and sent them on ahead of him in pairs to every town and place where he himself intended to go. He said to them, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest. Go on your way. See, I am sending you out like lambs into the midst of wolves. Carry no purse, no bag, no sandals; and greet no one on the road. Whatever house you enter, frst say, “Peace to this house!” And if anyone is there who shares in peace, your peace will rest on that person; but if not, it will return to you. Remain in the same house, eating and drinking whatever they provide, for the labourer deserves to be paid. Do not move about from house to house. Whenever you enter a town and its people welcome you, eat what is set before you;

Gospeller: The Gospel of the Lord.

Response: Praise to you, Lord Christ.

The Charge

My brothers in Christ: The Church is the Family of God, the Body of Christ, and the Temple of the Holy Spirit. All baptized people are called to make Christ known as Savior and Lord, and to share in the renewing of His world. Now you are called to work as Senior Pastor and Assistant Pastor, together with us, The WELL Church.

As Pastors, it will be your task to proclaim by word and deed the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to fashion your life in accordance with its precepts. You are to preach the Gospel, to declare God’s forgiveness to penitent sinners, to share in the administration of Holy Baptism and in the celebration of the mysteries of Christ’s Body and Blood, and perform the other ministration entrusted to you.

Bishop: May the Lord who has given you the will to do these things, give you the grace and power to perform them.

Answer: Amen.

André and Malcolm accept this Bible, and be in this place as one who proclaims the Word.

People: Amen.

André and Malcolm receive this Stole, and be in this place as a pastor and priest.

People: Amen.

André and Malcolm receive this Book, and be in this place as a minister of prayer.

People: Amen

André and Malcolm use this Oil, and be in this place as a healer and reconciler. People: Amen.

Bishop: André and Malcolm let all these be a sign of the ministry which is mine and yours in this place. People: Amen.

The Pastor: (kneeling in prayer)

O Lord, my God, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof; yet you have called your servant to stand in your house, and to serve at your altar. To you and to your service I devote myself, body, soul and spirit. Fill my memory with the record of your mighty works; enlighten my understanding with the light of your Holy Spirit; and may all the desires of my heart and will center in what you would have me do. Make me an instrument of your salvation for the people entrusted to my care, and grant that I may faithfully administer your holy sacraments, and by my life and teaching set forth your true and living Word. Be always with me in carrying out the duties of my ministry. In prayer, quicken my devotion; in praises, heighten my love and gratitude; in preaching, give me readiness of thought and expression; and grant that, by the clearness and brightness of your holy Word, all the world may be drawn into your blessed kingdom. All this I ask for the sake of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

The Hymn Of Praise “Lift Him Up”

Bishop: I present to you The Reverend André Miguel Boggerty, Senior Pastor and The Reverend Malcolm Jabbar Shannon, Assistant Pastor of the WELL Church.

Bishop: The peace of the Lord be with you. People: And also with you.

The Affrmation of Faith+ The Nicene Creed+

We believe in one God...

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, Eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sakes he was crucifed under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the Living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorifed. He has spoken through the Prophets.

We believe in one holy universal and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

The Hymn of Preparation Christopher Terrell Thompson Chambers

Therefore we praise you, joing our voices with the Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name:

People: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest, Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest, Hosanna in the highest.

Celebrant:

Holy and gracious Father: in Your infnite love you made us for yourself, and when we had fallen into sin and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent Jesus Christ, your only and eternal Son, to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all. He stretched out his arms upon the cross, and offered himself in obedience to your will, a perfect sacrifce for the whole world.

Celebrant: The Great Thanksgiving: Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith:

Celebrant: Through Christ and With Christ, and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, to you be honor, glory and peace, for ever and ever.

As we joint our prayers with those of the Church Universal, so we say each in our own language, the prayer that Jesus Christ has taught us, (sing)

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. A-men.
