Another “Letter From the Publisher,” and another instance where words that usually come so easy… the English language fails me. Or I fail it. Who knows? At any rate, this will be the last issue, before a huge change in my real life. I have been at this pivotal but almost standstill point in life. For as long as I can remember, my life revolved heavily around my real life work. I took pride in what I did, relished the changing responsibilities and the promotions that came with it to the point where there is no more room for growth. The pinnacle of my career should not be realized at 24. I have become restless, my passion diminished, and this feeling of stagnancy has trickled into other aspects of my life. Thus, I have decided to go back to school. If I’m being pervasively honest, I’m mildly apprehensive. This is the first time in six years, where I will simply be a student. This is also the first time in eight years that I can no longer define who I am, by what I used to do. This won’t effect ECLIPSE, at all - so fear not. In other news, I am absolutely thrilled with this issue, and I am in love with the cover picture of Kess. Less does magnificent work, and it’s such a joy to be able to work with her. It’s a privilege and an honor to work with the entire team of ECLIPSE, and I definitely consider myself lucky to be able to collaborate every month with such an excellent group of writers, photographers and models. The August issue is jam packed, I do hope you enjoy it. Happy readings!

“Human nature is water, not stone.” Marty Rubin None of us are singular, we contain multitudes. We change and adapt. If we are the same person we were ten years ago, we have stopped living. Kess Crystal exemplifies that adaptability in her Second Life®. Whether she has been forced by circumstance or by choice, she has made big changes and what she learned has enhanced not only her Second Life, but also her first. Kess first joined SL® in 2006 on another avatar. She remembers total chaos and cluelessness. Like many of us, she focussed on getting her appearance in order. She remembers it with humor, “I was obsessed with dressing my barbie even on day zero) and I finally settled on what I thought was an amazing look of bright pink system hair, zebra textured flared system pants and a purple ‘boob’ tube. Shoes were still a mystery on day one...I think I was barefoot for a couple of weeks.” For her, the social aspect of SL has always been most important. She did not get much of that the first day, but she came back anyway, looking for connection and community. For Kess, it is people who keep her involved and coming back. She does not just mean her friends, though. She is confident that if SL disappeared tomorrow, she and her friends would stay connected. “People’s creativity keeps me here..the passion of people to achieve in SL inspires me and keeps me here. People like Brique of Feed a Smile who has focussed her passion on fundraising for Live and Learn in Kenya in SL and shown the power for good that SL can be outside in the first life.”
Page 42 | ECLIPSE August 2016
ECLIPSE August 2016 | Page 43
Asked how she would describe SL to those who do not know it, she said it is “a vibrant social VR platform where people can meet, collaborate and create or just shop and listen to music. I love live music in SL and I think that’s one of the best ways to introduce others to SL because even if they have never used a VR or even an MMO game most people already understand streaming music and how that works.” Kess is all over the social aspect of Second Life. She once ran a successful rock club, she has worked with MadPea the collective that produces the best in-world games, helped out with One Billion Rising, volunteered in support of the SL13B festival, and worked with other events and fundraising efforts. Her newest role is working with the team at FaMESHed as a Public Relations and Social Media Manager. So many hats and only one head. Meanwhile, she constantly strives to enhance her photography skills and keep her blog up to date and relevant. With so much to do, she sometimes feels impatient with those who say they have nothing to do. There is always more to do than there is time. Kess might be multidimensional, but she has not yet conquered the space-time continuum. With all she does, it could be easy to hunker down, styling, shooting, and blogging. But for Kess, SL is about the people, so what she most likes to do is spend time with her friends. “SL is a social platform so spending time with my friends and is Page 44 | ECLIPSE August 2016
high up on the list. I enjoy decorating my SL space, photography, exploring sims, shopping, playing dress up, meeting people and feeling a sense of achievement from my time in world whether that be getting a blog post out or completing a project of another kind. I enjoy working on anything that has a tangible result at the end of it.” Kess’ success in running the !Exodus! Club, a 24 hour rock club, for several years is evidence of her strong skills in organizing and working with people. We have all gone clubhopping and teleported to 5 empty clubs for every successful one. Is there some secret at work? Kess thinks it was easier back in 2009 when she opened her club with the help of a couple friends. The concurrency was much higher. Before opening her club, she did a lot of research by visiting other clubs to see what she liked and did not like. Her goal was to develop something unique, starting with a custom build. She focused on reducing the number of scripts, so there were no group joiners and sploders. By discouraging gestures that drown out chat and establishing strict rules for the DJ’s, such as not talking over songs, she maintained the focus on socializing and music. “We employed hosts that engaged people in conversation rather than gestured and we allowed any and all kinds of rock music. This meant we developed a social experience with great music from knowledgeable and keen dj’s in a modern, aesthetically pleasing environment.“
ECLIPSE August 2016 | Page 45
DJ’s are central to the success of a club. Of course, we all have different ideas of what makes a good DJ, so Kess is reluctant to say what does and does not make a successful DJ, but she, like most of us, knows what she likes. She points out it is obvious if the DJ is engaged and enjoying what they do. Their enjoyment and enthusiasm transmits to the crowd. She continues, “For me personally I like a DJ to take me on a journey through their playlist. Even if you don’t live mix, the flow and pace of your playlist is important. I like DJ’s who introduce me to something new, too, whether that be a song, artist or a whole new genre for me. My pet hates are Dj’s who talk over song vocals consistently and those downloading off youtube AND not changing their song tags so you see Now Playing: Blah Blah by Blah Blah (HD Video Quality with Lyrics) or something in local.”
Page 46 | ECLIPSE August 2016
Moving with the flow of Second Life, she closed the club after a few years, changing her direction. One of her decisions was to join the MadPea team, working with them on their fundraising and social media efforts. The highlight, for Kess was the 2015 MadPea Celebrity Auction that raised 1.7 million lindens™ to build a classroom in Nakuru at the Live and Learn in Kenya School. Kess found it “an incredibly emotional and wonderful reminder of how amazingly generous SL residents are and what a force for good SL can be.” Kess loved working at MadPea. It seems to represent everything SL aspires to be, allowing creative people from all over the world to find a way to work together to provide amazing and immersive gaming experiences. They create huge, complex games and spend months, even years in
development. As she put it, “Working with a such a talented team of designers and scripters made me realise that the only bounds of what you can make happen in SL is your own imagination. We would ask the team to come up with solutions to what we thought were impossible or crazy ideas and they always came through.”
in, Kess is enthusiastic and inspired by the work other people do. “It’s been fascinating seeing the ingenuity of each of the creators and their enthusiasm for the concept too.”
A lot of Kess’ current focus is on photography and blogging. She had been in a long SL relationship that ended Kess also worked in developing SwagBag, badly. She found herself looking for ways a loot crate for men. Men are so to occupy her time and started the blogs underserved in the fashion community as an outlet to write about her thoughts so something geared just for them is and feelings, about general topics, not exciting. Monthly loot crate subscriptions just about her specific situation. “It was are a growing sales niche in real life cathartic and helped me process. I was and in Second Life. The aim is to bring friends with some other bloggers whom fifteen exclusive top brand products for I respected a lot and I was inspired by male avatars to the men on the grid, their work too and as well as finding it a with a good mix of products from hair, positive thing for me personally I started accessories, clothes and gadgets all to enjoy the process of developing the organized around a monthly theme. blog and my style of blogging.” As with everything she’s been involved ECLIPSE August 2016 | Page 47
For Kess, SL is no game though she understands how some might think it is if they only use SL for a pastime. For her, though, that trivializes the complexity of our world. “I’ve been fascinated by how closely we associate ourselves. There was a study done back when I first joined SL about social space and people’s behaviour in situations when engaging with other avatars. They talked about how people proportionally required the same amount of personal space in SL as they do in real life before starting to feel uncomfortable and crowded. I completely agree with that too and I play MMO games where I would not have that issue.” SL has changed quite a bit over the year since she joined. More powerful graphics, windlight, mesh and materials all make for a more beautiful world, but with a cost. They require more powerful computers so some people have been left behind. On the other hand, the grid is so much more stable than it used to be. It is a rarity when everyone is locked out because of asset server shutdowns when in the past, logins might be disabled more than once a week. All of this, though, makes the learning curve steeper and steeper. While working with MadPea, Kess has done a lot of thinking about that problem. MadPea worked with the Firestorm team to produce The Ghost Town, a new resident gateway game that helped people learn the interface, interact with objects and learn to move things around. Firestorm is doing a great job with integrating new residents and thinking creatively about how to do. However, there are more things to work on, Kess believes, “Jessica Lyon [Firestorm, see ECLIPSE Magazine Sept 2015] has spoken publicly about how often the missing piece of the puzzle for new residents is ‘SLetiquette’. So much of whether you stay and ‘play’ in SL is down how to your interactions with other people progress and a lot of that will be down to how you behave.” Page 48 | ECLIPSE August 2016
ECLIPSE August 2016 | Page 49
Page 50 | ECLIPSE August 2016
How many of us have been at a club or an event and encountered people who have asked for sex before introducing themselves and sent random friend request to all and sundry? Then there is the invasion of personal space, the bumping and shoving. Kess points out that it is rare for people in MMO games to be solid, so new residents may have no idea that they actually collide and shove people when they wander around. Laughingly, she continued, “I joked once that I don’t think newbies should be able to fly for 14 days...and though that’s extreme I do think there could be an argument for an integrated approach to the ‘abilities’ within SL as you would get in some MMO games.” Kess has also stepped forward into the sticky wicket of blogger and blogger manager relations, writing an article for SL Blogger Support, “The View from the Blogger Manager’s Window.” There has been a growing chorus of complaints about blogger managers and her article is a healthy dose of common sense. Because Kess is both a blogger and a blogger manager, she sees both sides of the issue and thinks the controversy and conflicts are overblown. She points out that most designers and creators highly appreciate their bloggers and that the criticisms of bloggers seem to rest on singular examples that are generalized to the whole by people who are neither creators, bloggers or blogger managers. “Speaking from my own experience managing blogger teams I can honestly say I’ve never met a blogger that I would describe as either demanding or entitled...People criticize others when they either don’t understand or have had a personally bad experience. Over the years I’ve heard criticism of Designers, DJ’s, Venues, Models, Roleplay Communities, Events...you name it someone somewhere will have a negative opinion and that’s just human nature.” ECLIPSE August 2016 | Page 51
Nature it is. Research shows that people are more likely to post negative than positive reviews, more likely to share their negative experiences than their positive ones and to share them more often. People are more motivated to vote against someone than for someone. This is true in all walks of life. People speculate that saying something negative is motivated by fear, a deep survival instinct common to all species, while saying something positive is motivated by altruism, an instinct found only in a few species, one of them humans. She does have opinions though and with her broaders perspective, they are worth listening to. Asked what makes a good blogger, Kess emphasized that no matter what kind of blogger they are, it is important that they love what they do and always strive to do better, to improve and develop their skills and experience. She continued, “They will be challenging themselves and inspire others and always be seeing their blog through the eyes of the viewer (and if they have them the stores that they work with) rather than just their own.” The more engaged people are in Second Life, the more likely it is to have an effect on their first lives and Kess is no exception. She joined at a low point in her professional life—reeling after a blow to her confidence and struggling to work her way through the negativity. However, that is not why she joined. “I didn’t join in search of an escape...I joined in search of Duran Duran...but in hindsight the escape of SL back then did help me get through that.” Kess believes that her experiences in SL, including her bad breakup, have made her a stronger, more emotionally resilient person. She’s also met several of her SL friends outside of SL and their friendships have enhanced her life, enriching her with memories and experience that will stay with her forever. Individual expression is the core of what Second Life represents for those who use its interface. Whether their inspiration and expression rests within the realm of photography, fashion, or social interaction, the foundation of what this virtual reality represents is the freedom of individuality and expression. It only stands to reason that those who live uncommon lives as well as the LGBT community have grown strong roots within this environment. Naturally, the same educational needs and misconceptions which exist outside of SL arise within it. Second Life serves as not only a cultural melting pot but as a conglomeration of ways of living and individual forms of social and emotional interaction. Content creators provide the tools with which these forms of expression can take place, the animations, the furnishings, the costumes and the settings that allow for everything from social interaction, engaging roleplay, conversation, to artistic manifestation. There are entire markets which cater to not only the LGBT community but to alternative expressions such as BDSM and the practice of polyamory. While the physicality expressions are usually understood, often the emotional and psychological makeup is Page 64 | ECLIPSE August 2016
more elusive and often misunderstood by those who are on the outside looking in.. This article serves to address elements of these ways of expressing our sexuality and identification from an informational standpoint, written by someone who is actively a part of these communities both within SL and the world which lies outside of it. Gender-bending, genderfluidity, and gender-swapping are all elements familiar to others within Second Life. These representations often result in a lot of negative backlash from those who do not understand the centrality of gender identification as opposed to plumbing issues. , It is often viewed as “dishonest if it is discovered someone’s biological gender is different than how they portray themselves within SL. This virtual environment allows its users to adopt whichever gender (or combination thereof ) they desire. For people on the outside, it is easy to assign ulterior motives, but not all people are the same and neither are their motivations. For members of the transgender community, the ability to choose a gender outside that of their biology is often psychologically crucial for them along their journey outside of SL.
ECLIPSE August 2016 | Page 65
Page 66 | ECLIPSE August 2016
Second Life provides transgendered individuals with the ability to adopt the gender they identify with and live their lives within this environment without as much fear of the judgment most members of this community still face. It allows them the anonymity to pursue their lives without risk of being viewed or treated differently by their peers for their biology. This opportunity for organic self expression often assists transgendered individuals through their personal struggles with gender nonconformity and often provides a sense of grounding for them on the “bad days. This virtual platform not only allows for personal therapy, it provides members of the transgender community the ability to connect with others like them in settings which provide safety, allowing for support structures to be built which can assist them on their personal journey of transition. BDSM is a lifestyle practice prominent within SL. There is an abundance of information available concerning this lifestyle, role-play options, and educational bases for those who practice BDSM. Entire events are dedicated to the support of the BDSM community and networks existent outside of Second Life have integrated portals in-world for those who wish to connect and learn more about the practices, ethics, and nuances which are present within the community. This virtual platform provides an endless array of options in order for others to explore BDSM, engage with it in ways they may not be currently capable of behind the screen, or immerse themselves within something which strikes them as exotic and separated from their daily life outside of SL. There are a lot of misconceptions which exist concerning the BDSM community and the motivations of those who engage within it. Often labeled as abusive, unhealthy, or otherwise improper, there is still a lot of misunderstanding which exists regardless of the amount of information available to educate to the contrary. ECLIPSE August 2016 | Page 67
For all the dangers present in engaging others within BDSM principles over distance and internet based mediums, it is important to recognize the protection Second Life offers for these and other ways people express and practice their sexuality and relationships. Second Life allows for the concepts of consent and acknowledgment to take place. Even with the use of the embedded Restrained Love Viewer, those who use it give their consent for these activities. A simple click of a button withholds consent and ends the activities, practices, conversation or requests which prove uncomfortable for those involved. It is important to realize (and often overlooked) that the BDSM community is comprised of healthy
Page 68 | ECLIPSE August 2016
principles that create a nurturing, empowering and satisfying foundation for those who engage within it. Like anything in life, there is the potential to encounter situations and individuals who do not resonate with another’s life goals, interests or ethical codes. As such, it is important to recognize that the community itself is not responsible, but rather each individual within it is responsible for their own actions and behaviors. If you are interested in information concerning the BDSM community, seek out the many available educational resources inworld as well as outside research reading material. For reading lists or additional information concerning educational sources, the author of this article may be contacted inworld under the account name Azram Belwraith.
The last community this article will address is comprised of individuals who practice polyamory in its various facets. Polyamory is the ability to “love many, the capability to engage in multiple romantic and/or sexual relationships simultaneously. Polyamory is usually misunderstood. It is difficult for individuals outside of the community to comprehend the practice itself. Life is made more difficult for polyamorous people thanks to a combination of social and cultural standards, and the lack of education about polyamory. It is often more difficult to dispel misconceptions and educate others because there is no set of codes or guidelines which must be followed by all polyamorous people. For as
many individuals are involved in polyamorous relationships, there are as many different ways for them to live them. Like any other relationship alignment, there are both healthy ways and unhealthy ways in which these practices may be pursued. Much like with BDSM, Second Life provides polyamorous individuals with a platform which allows them to explore and practice their way of life in an environment which provides more safety than the world outside of it may allow. It allows a safe platform for others to explore their own interests with polyamorous practices and even goes as far as to provide a medium where someone can decide if the lifestyle of polyamory is something which suits them as an individual. ECLIPSE August 2016 | Page 69
Page 70 | ECLIPSE August 2016
Communication is the foundational cornerstone of any healthy relationship and is key in understanding the people we choose to engage with no matter how traditional or untraditional our relationship. When engaging in any long distance relationship, caution and communication are vital to personal growth, safety and relationship evolution. Polyamory - just as any other relationship orientation is healthy, rewarding and fulfilling for those who engage with others who resonate with themselves and their life goals. It is only through the continued production of educational information and the sharing of personal experience will the acceptance of those who live their lives in ways that fulfill their needs and those communities which may be considered “different” from the societal norm be understood. Each community mentioned in this article is far too intricate and layered to summarize within a few pages, but it is the author’s hope that perhaps these words can serve as a starting place for those seeking education, a grounding point for those who are members of these communities, and a source of support and understanding from an individual who lives each and understands both the struggles and rewards that come with each. C’est le ton qui fait la chanson.

Phemie Alcott is one of the many talented live artists with Whispering Sands Live Promotions. Her singing career in Second Life began in 2007, when she heard Linus Redford perform and realized that this was virtual world platform, where she could perform. She credits Redford with helping her begin her career, “I asked him to help me get started and he was wonderful in helping me learn how to stream and booked me at his friends birthday party and it was so fun!” From those early beginnings to now, she has maintained her SL music career, as she continues to perform 2 or 3 shows a week in the evenings and weekends. Her passion has transcended into real life through her EP, Raising the Black. She shares with ECLIPSE how this was only possible, “through a Kickstarter i started where the citizens of SL donated over 2K US Dollars!!! It can be a magical place of support for the arts and i will be forever grateful.” These are her top 5 favorite songs to sing: - Youth by Daughter - Elastic Heart by Sia - Gravity by Sara Bareilles - I Found Love by Amber Run - Hey Now by London Grammar Listen to her EP here. The Proust Spotlight is our monthly feature where we highlight one of the many creative residents of Second Life®. Utilizing the Proust Questionnaire, whose namesake comes from the late 19th century French writer, we will offer a glimpse into what makes them tick. Fabio Kenyon owns the male fashion blog, “Boss Closet.” His favorite hobbies in Second Life are blogging, photography and modeling. He shares with us why he enjoys being a blogger, “I love decorating scenes for hours and creating fashion looks. I’m always searching to grow my knowledge about fashion to bring a good content for my blog and my followers.” He is most grateful for his followers because without them he would not be here. His greatest hope is to, “continue making my work well done with honesty , informativeness, seriousness, humility and good fashion sense.”

What do you consider the most overrated virtue? The sincerity. I don’t know how to live with people who play games and wont go directly to the point. Also artificial and manipulative ones makes me tired, so sincerity is the base of everything. Which words or phrases do you most overuse? I say, “Amazing,” and “OMG” a lot. What do you most value in your friends? To be truthful this is not the amount for me. There are not many that I really can consider “friends.” This title has a big meaning. I think I have few real friends, but I know people around the world. I just believe that friends are those who really would care about us for real. People are complex, and relationships in any stages have changed. Nowadays, love is fast and rare, friendship lost the real meaning, everything is easy, and comes fast and goes fast. I feel like everything had become superficial. Which historical figure do you most identify with? Nikola Tesla. He was creative. He invented and reinvented, and he was a machine of new ideas, and I simply don’t know how he found so many new inspirations that are essentials for our lives. We would be a chaos without that person that once lived here and was also a human being like us, but too much motivated on an atomic level. Of course his idea of a free electricity was great and that “free” part of the plan is not happening but he is a genius, and it demonstrates that for him it was only to help, not for the money. And thats incredible, anyway the “free” thing is not possible, we all need money so.. But he is simply the best for me. What is your motto? “If you want to be the Best, You have to do it better.” This phrase for sure I took for life, for me to never forget to do my best. It’s not that I’m the best, but I’m a step ahead of the ones who have not worked hard. This is about making sacrifices, “no pain no gain” so whenever people wants to be on the place you are, to live the life you live or to have what you have, they never stopped to think what you have faced in your life, and the battles you won to gain success. I mean, theres aways a price, sometimes a high one, so I have a daily battle. What is your most marked characteristic? I think that is the fact that I try aways to do things differently, I try to brake the normality and be creative. For years male bloggers were not so creative, also there were not so many events and stores to sponsor us like now, but male bloggers had almost the same style. I’ve aways tried to have something to make me unique. Check out his Blog here. Check out his Flickr here. Check out his Facebook here. Page 104 | ECLIPSE August 2016

Looking for Love? Try AvMa

In today’s society, people are in a hurry to get where they’re going. They want to get things done. They have commitments to deal with. Sometimes, they’re just simply busy. Unfortunately, this sort of lifestyle often leads to love taking a backburner. It’s the same in Second Life ®, where the ability to do just about anything with the click of a mouse often leads to the same sort of go-go-go lifestyle. Sometimes, when you find yourself able to do just about anything that you can think of, you also find yourself doing a little bit of everything. While people find love in Second Life all the time, when you’re busy meeting the right person can be harder than driving a nail through a block of concrete with a rubber hammer. In real life, most people who don’t have time to meet people on their own or go on that blind date their cousin’s best friend arranged with that guy who is absolutely perfect for them turn to the internet. Answer a few questions, upload a few photos, and you’re set! Then, even Page 138 | ECLIPSE August 2016
if you’re busy, you can simply check your phone, swipe left a few times, hit that ‘like’ button, and continue on with your busy day with little more effort than answering a text message. Theoretically, in Second Life, this process should be much easier, but there are still those of us who seem to have difficulty meeting our perfect match, even in the virtual world. That is where AvMatch comes in. AvMatch is an online match-making service reminiscent of many of the popular online dating platforms that some of us use when we’re looking for love in real life. The main difference is that AvMatch is, of course, geared towards our avatars. Looking for a fun new friend in the furry community, or are vampires more your thing? Want someone to join you in that fantastic new fantasy roleplay sim you’ve heard so much about? With AvMatch, you can find all of that and more. You personalize your profile. It’s all about your avatar and what you want in your fabulous new friend. ECLIPSE August 2016 | Page 139
Anna Mynx has had an account with AvMatch for about a year, and sat down to speak with me while I was completing my sign-up process. “I haven’t met anyone special yet,” Anna told me, “but it’s been a positive experience so far. The best part is that first initial meeting after you’ve been chatting with someone for a while.”
“Wow!” I thought. “The process works, and it works a lot quicker than I thought it would, too!” Unfortunately, I soon discovered exactly what Anna meant when she said that the free profile was “severely limiting” to her AvMatch experience. Instantly, I understood her frustration. AvMatch doesn’t allow you to put your display name into your profile, and in fact, has a list of approved words that may be used there. Here I was, face-toface with a nice handsome guy after finishing my profile, and I read his message and went to reply, and…
Anna was wonderful to talk to, and was very positive about her overall AvMatch experience. She did mention, however, that having a free profile on the website was very limiting. I wasn’t entirely sure what she meant until I logged into my own newly-created It wasn’t going to happen. account and saw that a very handsome avatar had sent me a message.
Page 140 | ECLIPSE August 2016
Free users on AvMatch can’t send messages. Instead, they can pass ‘notes,’ similar to winking at or blowing a kiss to someone on some of the more popular dating platforms in real life. There are several notes to choose from, but none that allow for any real conversation to take place between two avatars. Like most dating platforms, AvMatch has a paid account option that gives users access to more features.
and to-the-point, and if you’re careful, can still allow for a bit of interaction between interested parties.
It’s not a bad system, and it’s not too expensive, but it can be limiting to free users. Still, if find yourself a little too busy to handle meeting people on your own, or if like me, you are a bit shy at first, this is an amazing platform that really allows you to browse and meet people in your free time, and in a safe and secure environment. Users can also buy tokens to send AvMatch’s policy about not including your messages back and forth if they wish. avatar’s name in your profile may seem Sending a message instead of a note frustrating when you’re looking at your allows for a more personal response dream guy’s profile, but it also protects instead of the generic options that passing you if it turns out that dream guy is really notes offers. There’s even a note option a nightmare. Like most dating platforms, that allows you to alert another user that AvMatch wants to give you the anonymity you will reply to them when you have the to browse and chat safely while still being tokens to send a message. Notes are simple yourself. ECLIPSE August 2016 | Page 141

AvMatch user Anna ran into me while I was confirming my account through AvMatch’s registration kiosks inworld. Something that Anna said as I was exploring my new AvMatch account really stuck out to me: “Like anything in life, it has both good and bad qualities,” she said. “You just have to decide if it’s your cup of tea.” If you think that AvMatch might be your cup of tea, you can check it out here. Give it a shot! Creating a free profile is a guided process that takes less than ten minutes to complete. Free users can upload photos, browse profiles, and send notes to other users. Who knows what you might find if you give it a shot!

Shazzy Valentine Shazzy Valentine started blogging in 2013 and from there started to enroll in several modeling academies. She received her first certificate in June 2014 and actively started casting for agencies in June 2015. That’s also when she entered her first competition pageant in SL, Miss Virtual World and placed 4th Runner up as MISS V ARUBA 2016. Besides modeling, Shazzy is also active as a Designer Liaison for SCALA™ and is one of the Instructors for Miss SL Academy. Just one thing? Gosh I have so many things that give me happiness in Second Life. Working in SL is one of them. I have had the pleasure to try a lot of different jobs. I started out in a country club as a hostess. I think I lasted no longer than 2 weeks until I knew, this was not my thing. I’ve been a blogging manager as well, sim manager, store manager, I’ve even been a COO shortly for a jeweler but I wasn’t happy in jobs where I constantly felt like I had to chase people. Since I started being active in the Fashion Industry, I feel like I’ve landed in the right place because I’m able to use RL skills (sales, customer service etc) in SL. It’s something I’m passionate about and being able to work as a model but also behind the scenes in Show Productions & Shopping Events is exciting. The people that I get to work with in my current jobs are all professionals and share that same passion. Last but not least, I want to mention Ivyana Szondi, my best friend in SL. She and I share so much laughs on a daily bases, either silently behind our pc’s in IM’s, or on a phone call. She gives me a great deal of happiness too and I’m very thankful to have such a loyal and sweet friend. Check out her Blog. Check out her Flickr. Check out her Twitter. Check out her Facebook. LouLou Teichmann LouLou Teichmann is a life long resident of Second Life. Feisty, full of life, and bratty, she is the creator and owner of Bauhaus Movement, The Liaison Collaborative Creative Director, and part-time photographer, which will always be here first love here in SL. She has been an Industrial/EBM/ Electro music DJ, an active fashion blogger for 5 years and a set designer for Tableau Vivant. When she’s not taking photos or creating, you can find her hanging out with her very few friends.

She doesn’t care whether people like or dislike her. She isn’t on earth to win a popularity contest. she here to be the best human being she possibly can be. True popularity comes from acts of kindness rather than acts of stupidity. I love Second Life, because it gives to me the possibility to expand my creativity, challenge myself, and helps me constantly to improve my skills. I am also my own biggest critic, but this has never stopped me to continue to do what I love. My passion has taken me to another
level because now it has evolved into my RL income and means. I still need to grow in the future, but I am lucky because I do have great support from people who have trusted in me these past years. They have pushed me to start my own business and helped me to never give up when obstacles came in my way, These people are: Aida Ewing, Marilyn Magic and Sissy Pessoa. I can never thank them enough for their support.
Of course my biggest passion will always be photography, and I will never stop even if my time is limited. Taking photos is the thing that makes me the most happiest and is my greatest artistic outlet. Check out her Store. Check out her Flickr. Check out her Blog. Photograph by LouLou Teichmann

Malena von Dash Malena von Dash arrived in SL as Brittany Resident. She spent several years getting to know the SL design world and honing her own skills before taking the plunge herself. She took the name Malena von Dash and to use that name for her business. In her spare time, she like to take photos and blog, always striving to be better. It makes me feel very happy to be surrounded by good friends and talented people who influential in the world of fashion in second life, and thus also my day to day growth in the profession. I love working on my designs and being aware of new trends and styles in order to adapt them to my line. It makes me happy to know that my line is accepted. This encourages me to continue creating new collections and unique pieces and trying to innovate and risk to offer originality and novelty. Constantly working on my products to offer people a new, different essence, new life for the woman who wants to feel sensual, special, erotica, etc. Producing products with fine fabrics, delicate lace and small inlaid stones that make the woman feel like a real star. Gradually I have been introducing new products such as accessories, shoes ... etc. I never expect the impact it has had my signature and my products and is what makes me feel alive and work harder to offer the best of me. It makes me happy that my style and my way of being bring admiration. I really enjoy when people show my articles feel good about it and have nice words about the quality of my product encouraging me to continue designing and not to give up. It flatters me when I log each day in second life and I receive lots of notecards and IMs with wonderful words like those mentioned above. Check out Enlace. Check out her Flickr. Thanako Thanako is a blogger and creator in Second Life. She works together with Runa (Tsurine) on ALTAIR* to create cute and girly original mesh for 2 years now. Whenever she has time she likes to take pictures and blog her favorite creators. One thing that always makes me happy in SL is hanging out with my friends. After a long day of being tabbed out in Maya or Photoshop knowing that I have something waiting for me always brightens my day. Even when everyone is working at the same time and we’re all keeping quiet. The fact that there’s always someone around when I need them is really reassuring. Something that makes me equally happy is seeing people love our work. Nothing excites me more than teleporting to a random place and spotting someone wearing something I created. I’m also so happy and blessed to be able to work with my best friend Runa on our store Altair. We’ve known each other for years now and working together has definitely strengthened our friendship on various levels. I know these are multiple things but they all make me equally happy so it was hard to decide on just one! Check out her Store. Check out her Flickr. Check out her Blog. Photograph by Thanako

Roberteroicadupea Roberteroicadupea took his name from an old Jack Nicholson film, and happily entered SL in 2011. He admits that he had an earlier avatar, with which he spent endless hours shaping and pushing prims around, and now he uses the skills he learnt back then to create sets for photographs when he needs to. Having almost no interest in RL photography, he was introduced to it a few years ago and has, surprisingly for him, become a keen photographer in SL. He spends his time between this activity and meeting people, as well as exploring the clubs and sims of SL. Although he hasn’t visited the live music scene for some time now, he used to be an avid follower of SL musicians and would spend many hours at their live concerts. The question made me think hard, because while there are many things in SL that make me happy, they can become a little tiresome and boring after a while However, having recently come back from a longish break from SL, I did realize that I do have something I can mention. One aspect that I enjoy while being in SL is the meeting of new people. SL gives us a great opportunity to meet people with the same interests and outlook on life, as well as those who are very different from us, and they can all be just a click of a button away. During my time in SL I have met a lot of friends, as well as had many more intimate relationships (some longer and some much shorter!) and obviously there may come a time when the good old clichéd ‘SL drama’ hits you. It’s natural that with so many people around us, there will be time when disagreements happen, people get hurt and so on. After such times, I like to get away from all that, take a break and not log in for some time, until the emotions die down. Like I mentioned earlier, I recently took such a break and when I came back, as always happens, the warmth and acceptance back from my friends was absolutely humbling and overwhelming, as well as the thoughts and best wishes of the new people I started to meet on my return, and the old friends that I may have lost contact with in the passing of time. This is what always makes me happy in SL, to feel the love and kindness of other people here, who make me forget the bad times that have passed, help me to feel wanted and liked and accepted, every time I come back from my time away. Sabyrmoon and Spice Sabrymoon has been in Second Life for over three years. She is a fashion model , blogger and poses creator. Spice has been in Second Life for over two years. He loves to take pictures, create poses with Sabyrmoon and manage the fashion blog, Two Too Fashion. Second Life allows many activities that can give satisfaction, cultivating own passions and exploiting personal attitudes. We have created just for fun a fashion blog called Two Too Fashion since one of our favorite SL pastimes has always been looking for clothes and accessories, also very special, trying to make cool mix and personal styles. Sabrymoon has also graduated in a models academy, thus acquiring an additional baggage of technical information and experience, while Spice has tried to refine more and more the photographic technique and post-editing for emotionally engaging shots. Our “blog journey” started on April 2015 brought us to acquire many sponsors over time, that we try to satisfy with our professionalism, because that’s what makes us really happy! The sponsors entrust us their creations and we want to present them in the best way, to promote their characteristics and peculiarities, to make them attractive to the visitors eyes. For each post we put all possible efforts and our gladness is to see the results that get the picture made by us!! It is a constant work, to which we devote all our time on Second Life, we are proud of what we have created, but we still want to improve because we always see new goals to reach!!! Biabi Meili Biabi Meili has been in SecondLife for 9 years and from the first instant she was very active in this virtual world. After several jobs (Fashion Shows Planner, Land manager, Fashion Designer and posemaker) now she is an esteemed blogger and a host in some clubs (Energy Club & Peak Club) I think that Second Life is virtual, not real and for this I try to keep it very very easy. I’m happy when things go as well as possible. I work in some clubs of SL and I worked in several of the most important, but often there developed a situation from the disorder in the organization. There is one club, where I worked for almost 1 year that is fantastic in its organization of the team. It is a pleasure to work with people who work with passion and loyalty and this makes me really happy. When a designer sees in my pictures some features that meet his or her own style, I’m happy because I love my work as blogger, but often it’s not so easy as it seems and it’s really important that the designer is happy. I’m happy if they are happy too. And…. last but not least I’m happy when my man and my best friends are with me. There is no such life, neither real nor virtual that works well without love and friendship. They are so important for me, because they encourage me and they are always there for me when I need it. Roxaane Fyanucci Roxaane Fyanucci is a model and blogger who loves to take photos and keep up with the latest fashions. She has competed in several model competitions. She is also on the marketing team at Penumbra and works as a stylist for The Edge and ECLIPSE Magazine. Among her titles, are MISS V ANDORRA 2016, MISS MVLA ARGENTINA 2016, and MISS ROYALTY FRANCE2016. What makes me happy on SL it is not one single thing, but a whole set. My passion for modeling and photography, the discovery of magnificent places, the wonderful relationship which I have with my partner, this sensation of total freedom and of no limits, this faculty being able to discover and learn in numerous domains and sometimes, to meet fantastic people. But if I really had to choose what returns me the happiest in this game, it is to have met finally a man with whom I share the same values and which makes me rediscover the Second Life in a different way and with whom I can give free rein to my passion of modeling without any constraints. Luane Meo Luane Meo is a creative person who uses SL as a place to relax and recreate. She spends a lot of time on her passion for photography and making poses for the pictures. It relaxes her and gives a break from a very stressful RL. Through this passion she has met some great people and developed a small circle of friends who share her passion. Having had success with her pose shop, she decided to create a beautiful place, where photographers can come to take pictures or people can just come to relax, cuddle, chat, dance and so on. It has expanded to two sims: Luane’s World and Luane’s Magical world. Both sims are covered with various themed spots both for photography and recreational purposes. Page 170 | ECLIPSE August 2016
