Another “Publisher’s Note” and once again it is the last thing I do before the issue is ready to be uploaded onto issuu. Perhaps, I should add “Writing my Publisher’s Note a week in advance” as part of my New Years resolution for the next year. Then again, such resolutions, at least in my case, rarely come to fruition. Regardless, I do hope you enjoy this issue. We feature the talented Vista Barnes on the cover of this edition, as I am a firm believer that part of what makes Second Life so great is the life we bring to our avatar. Additionally we highlight the creative mind of Redd Columbia, as well as the toddleedoo roleplay community in their fashion endeavors. What I have come to like most about ECLIPSE Magazine as it has evolved over the past 21 months is the regular monthly features we have. While each has their own focus, they continue to embody the spirit of this publication by showcasing resident’s and groups who have taken the concept of “your world, your imagination” to such great heights that they have impacted the culture and lifestyle of the Second Life community. This issue we welcome a new feature called, “The Art Perspective,” by Oema, and I look forward to the added depth she brings to ECLIPSE. Last but not least, congratulations to Rosemaery Lorefield as the winner of our November contest! She wins the mesh head of her choice. Be sure to Like our page on Facebook to stay up to date on all our other contests and giveaways. Happy Readings!

If it walks like a duck, it might not be a duck. It could be an avatar whose Animation Override detached. The horrors of our duck-walking Orientation Island experience would have given our avatars goosebumps if our geese could bump. Thankfully, for our geeseless, bumpless avatars, there are people like Vista Barnes who create animations that smooth our movements and give us life. Would you have come back to Second Life® day after day and year after year if we walked like a duck? Would Second Life even exist without the people who gave us dances, embraces, poses and sex? Perhaps, but it would be a far quieter and far less interesting. One of the people who brought life and movement to SL® is Vista Barnes who is soon approaching his tenth rez day at the end of December. In March, his Vista Animations shop will be ten years old. Even though it’s been almost ten years, Barnes has not forgotten the initial excitement of discovery. “I remember so well the first days. For me, it was something really exciting. I was completely amazed at how huge and complex the world was. So many things to do and discover, and the most amazing was that the feelings were so real. I still remember those feelings, in part with some sadness since they are not the same now.”

Page 40 | ECLIPSE November 2016

ECLIPSE November 2016 | Page 41

Page 42 | ECLIPSE November 2016

Barnes began his career as an animator by making some static poses for his male avatar. It was the first thing he ever made. He got interested in animation out of necessity. “I didn’t like the animations that were available around SL, especially the free ones. So I decided to try to create some. It was nice to learn and once i had them...why not try to sell them?” With nearly ten years, he still keeps his work fresh and interesting. “We are creating lots of different things. AOs are still our core business, but we are also creating couples dances and animated objects. Also we opened our own clothing brand “Absolut Vendetta” Like many SL creators, he finds inspiration in his first life. “I keep watching people moving all the time. Trying to get ideas for new AOs or dances.” He decides what to create by considering what they have already created recently and looking for gaps. They cast real life actors for their motion-capture work. They also do inworld research for new ideas.

ECLIPSE November 2016 | Page 43

As an oldbie, Barnes has a deeper understanding and broader perspective on our world. Asked what changes were most profound, he stressed how much better everything looks now. From the avatars to the landscape, everything is so much more realistic, in large part because content creators are constantly pushing the envelope and improving their skills. Barnes identified three critical technical advances that had the most profound effect on the SL experience, mesh, advanced lighting and the new Bento avatars with more bones. If he could wave a magic wand, he “would mainly modernize it to 2016 graphics engine. So, basically what I would wish for is that project Samsar was a updated SL” His long experience also gives him insight into the challenges for SL’s citizens. He believes that Linden Lab™ does not listen

Page 44 | ECLIPSE November 2016

enough. As he put it, “I always had that feeling of there being ‘nobody there’. The problems with copyrights, changes in the TOS, the inadequate promotion and how it seems they are orienting the Samsar project.” Barnes is looking forward to Sansar, the new iteration of virtual reality and community from Linden Lab. “We have made big investments lately to adapt the newest technology, such as adding hands and face mocap equipment, as well as VR sets.” He is disappointed that Vista Animations’ desire to be part of the beta has been ignored for the moment, but is still looking forward to seeing what will happen. “I don’t know so much how it will be, but for sure it will be different than now. The kind of animations we will have to create, and the way to distribute them may be different.”

Nonetheless, he and his team of animators are not sitting on their hands while they wait. In fact, just the opposite. Vista Animations has released animated mesh hands for Project Bento. Bento adds new bones and attachment points to the avatar skeleton. As Barnes explains, “This means now the creators have all them to create and animate new gen avatars. These new Bento additions include: - 11 extra limb bones for wings, additional arms, or extra legs. - 6 tail bones - 30 bones in the hands (all 10 fingers!) - 30 bones for facial expressions - 2 other new bones in the head for animating ears or antennae - 13 new attachment points associated with the new bones

ECLIPSE November 2016 | Page 45

Describing the new mesh hands, which are demoed in a video from Vista Animations, Barnes continued, “In my case we have used the new hand bones to create mesh hands rigged to them. And then we can create animations in our studio with finger movement that can be played in world with our bento hands. The possibilities are endless, face expressions, fantasy avatars, etc, This is a huge improvement, the biggest since the mesh arrived to SL.” For Barnes, Second Life has become become more than an avocation. This leaves him little time for the old joys of SL. “I am ashamed to say i have so little free time. I am working at least 8 hours day. And in that time I take some time to chat with people, mainly other creators, customers and some old friends.” However, that loss has its compensations as SL allowed him to quit his first life job and create his own company in the town where he lives, saving him three hours a day in commuting. “It allowed me to spent a lot of time with my kids when they were born and allowed me to direct my own company. I’ll be always so grateful to Second Life.” He wants people to know there is a real person behind Vista Barnes and a team of great people behind Vista Animations. His company has five people now and can handle big projects like the Bento hands. They also have opened a MoCap studio that does work for other games, animation, and films. MocapBcn.com opened in 2013 and is expanding all the time. “You can see we are having busy time and have no time to be bored.” He’s adjusting to being in his forties and cannot guess where he will be in five years, “But I hope all is as good as it is now.”

One of the most amazing things about Second Life® is its residents can truly create anything that they can dream up. One in-world shopping trip or glance at the Marketplace will easily showcase some of these amazing things. Redd Columbia has been a Second Life resident since 2005. When she joined Second Life, she already had something in mind for herself. “I’ve always loved creating in SL,” Redd told ECLIPSE. “I knew within my first days of playing that I wanted to just make stuff, whether or not people bought it.” Redd’s store -RC- Cluster opened in 2007, shortly after she closed a roleplay sim she ran called Kindly State University. Although KSU has been closed for nearly a decade, Redd hasn’t stopped making her mark on Second Life, and in fact still seems to be going full-steam ahead with fun new products and interesting environments to explore them.

Page 58 | ECLIPSE November 2016

Items from -RC- Cluster are quirky and one-of-a-kind— unlike anything else you will likely find anywhere on the grid. These avatar accessories will make you smile, make you laugh, and make you yearn for more. Redd’s roleplay beginnings in Second Life can be seen in most of the items she releases at her store, each of which brings a little bit of imaginative fun to our virtual world. “A lot of [the items at -RCCluster] are inspired by the characters I’ve created that are kind of like the mascots of the store. Redd and her Nana are the main characters, and there are several supporting characters. Most of them are alts, but a few friends of mine participate, too. The characters are realistic and live like any old lady and her simple, but sweet granddaughter would. Their lives are chronicled in a story blog that I run, and the items I create are usually inspired by something that they would use or need in their everyday, mundane lives.”

ECLIPSE November 2016 | Page 59

Page 60 | ECLIPSE November 2016

Hair curlers, notebooks, selfie sticks, specialty AOs… -RCCluster has a little bit of everything. Much of it is geared towards adding a little realism and hilarity to our Second Life experience. In a virtual world where so many of us are concerned with perfect prim placement and modelesque body builds, -RC- Cluster reminds us that life isn’t always perfect, but it can be fun, no matter what we find ourselves doing. Since many of the items available at -RC- Cluster are geared toward the avatar experience and inspired by some of Redd’s own characters, you can find just about anything that you’ll need…and perhaps even a few things you didn’t know you needed until you found them. Sometimes, it’s not enough to simply search the Marketplace when you’re looking for something truly unique. Shopping at -RC- Cluster is one of those times. While the store does have Marketplace listings available, not exploring the inworld location is definitely losing out. The store is different, constantly changing, and full of things to explore and fascinating little gems for Second Life residents to find. ECLIPSE November 2016 | Page 61

“Salchicha Township changes all the time, simply because I can’t stop myself from creating different places and areas for people to explore and hang out. I LOVE when someone IMs me because they found a hidden space or freebie that I tucked away somewhere. The best part is, the more events that come around, the more stuff I’m inspired to make to support the atmosphere. A lot of it is given for free.” Redd Columbia told ECLIPSE that one of her main goals when she created -RC- Cluster was to create a place that was all-inclusive. She wanted to have a store that could cater to anyone, no matter what community they enjoyed, or what they liked to do when they logged in to Second Life. To that end, beyond the freebies hidden around the sim, all items at -RC- Cluster are affordable. Everything that Redd Columbia does is aimed at making sure that everyone can not only enjoy the items at her store, but truly create a unique experience within Second Life for themselves.

Page 62 | ECLIPSE November 2016

“My favorite thing is to share stories and environments with people. I get so much satisfaction out of creating a space to come into and immerse yourself in. To have you *feel* like you’re really in this habitat that I’ve created, making you literally part of my world at that point. I even created a community called Salchicha Township, with different areas and environments, so that I could do this this, and the spaces I create there are supported by the stuff I make for the store. [One of my hobbies in Second Life] is creating these spaces for my story blog characters and holding events for people to explore them.” There is something truly magical about discovering new worlds to explore in Second Life, and new items to experiment with. Redd is a fun and friendly creator on the grid, more than willing to hold a new customer’s hand, laugh with them, and celebrate all that makes our Second Life community unique. This, perhaps, is one of the many reasons why -RC- Cluster and everything that you can find there are truly special. You’ll find nothing else like it on the grid, and with events and a constantly-changing sim, you’ll always have something new and interesting to explore when you visit. ECLIPSE November 2016 | Page 63

Page 64 | ECLIPSE November 2016

Redd, who joined Second Life over a decade ago and has truly worked since the beginning to make her own dreams of giving to the community here a reality, has succeeded with -RC- Cluster, a store which provides a fun adventure for its residents, reminds us that quirky is okay, and builds a bridge between our two realities, really giving us the best of both worlds in one neatly-wrapped package. Anyone interested in checking out some of the stories behind some of -RC- Cluster’s unique avatar accessories can find more information on the story blog that Redd Columbia maintains along with the story. The Proust Spotlight is our monthly feature where we highlight one of the many creative residents of Second Life®. Utilizing the Proust Questionnaire, whose namesake comes from the late 19th century French writer, we will offer a glimpse into what makes them tick. The talented model, stylist, blogger and photographer Carley Benazzi shares with us, “I first started modelingfor an actual agency back in 2010. Maddox Dupont cast me for MAD Agency which was my dream job at the time. At that point the fashion bug had hit me and I found I love to walk the runway in SL. I cannot name everyone that has helped me along the way but there are a few that always are there for you. Trouble Dethly also welcomed me into Penumbra and allowed me to become a more active model as a stylist for shows. Along the way I also have been blessed to be a part of Ferosh and all that is artistic and creative in SL. As I continue on in SL modeling and fashion, I strive to keep working diligently and intelligently within the industry. I believe hard work is recognized in SL. I am proof of that. Thank you to everyone that is there for me and I can call a friend.”

What is your ideal of perfect happiness? I am still looking for that, but a good book, lemonade and a warm sunny beach to enjoy. What do you consider the most overrated virtue? Tolerance. Which words or phrases do you most overuse? “I know right. If you were to die and come back as a person or a thing, what would it be? DirtyDee Sweetwater is one of the many talented live artists with Whispering Sands Live Promotions, represented by the group for the past nine months. He shares with ECLIPSE Magazine how he was brought into Second Life by a group of friends, but did not find the music scene until his second year. In regards to how he became a part of the SL live music community, he tells us how he, “got into it as soon as i had an hour worth of material.” When asked if he could tell us anything our readers would find interesting, he simply states, “Dirty Dirty Di DI Di Dirty :)” A definite testament to how he is certainly one of the most engaging and charismatic singers on the grid. These are his top five favorite songs to sing: - Pumped Up Kicks - Sympathy for the Devil - If You Want My Body - Just A Gigolo - And last but certainly not least… anything Motown Listen to his music here. the art perspective oema sheds insight on Jarla Capalini and her realistic exhibition “Impressions. written by o

ema & photography by miele tarantal.

Jarla Capalini surprises us again with an elegant and engaging art exhibition, this time as a guest at Empusa Art Gallery. For those not familiar with the artistic environment of Second LifeÂŽ, Jarla Capalini, Italian artist, is known and appreciated in the best artistic salons of SL. Born as a photographer, Capalini began, like many, catching shots and trying to improve her technique, through the study and careful and scrupulous practice. Jarla has experience with art in real life, she learned painting techniques by attending the workshops of master craftsmen. For this reason almost immediately she deepened the art of manipulation of the image captured in the environment of virtual SL. In particular through the use of graphics programs, she gets interesting effects and a surprising result. The peculiarity of Jarla Art is the ability to transform a photo taken in Second Life into an artwork. Observing the work of this artist, it is hard to Page 112 | ECLIPSE November 2016

tell if it is an image of a real painting imported into Second Life, or a photograph properly worked. With the arrival of mesh, landscapes and human subjects have gained much in terms of realism. Now a photo captured in Second Life can easily be mistaken for a picture of a real environment. In addition, graphics programs have reached excellent levels of customization and processing, so the results in terms of verisimilitude with pictorial art are amazing. The combination of these two factors, together with her strong passion for art, allows Jarla achieve excellent results. Each show is a pleasure, because her style is reinvented, recreated, regenerated according to her mood and the exposure sites.n this last exhibition, “Impressions”, Jarla presents a “scratched”style. In fact, in addition to the image transformation into painting, Jarla also worked to find a painting style all her own.

ECLIPSE November 2016 | Page 113

Viewing her artistic work, you have a chance to observe her “scratched style” (I call it so).The central part of the painting seems to have been “scratched” by hand, after being painted, before the color dried. It is an interesting style of painting, which made from an image in Second Life, makes it appealing. The overall effect of her artistic exhibitions in the various gallery shows I visited, is always delicate and engaging. I really like her way of seeing things and the way she allows the viewer to see them.Viewing the world through Jarla’s eyes is good for the spirit, it lifts the mood and gives a shot in the arm.

Page 114 | ECLIPSE November 2016

I personally asked Jarla some questions to understand how this passion for art was born and why she decided to express it in Second Life. Jarla has always been fond of art and studied with a painter for several years. Since she never realized her ambition to be a painter in her first life, she decided to pursue her art in her Second Life. She is inspired by the landscapes and the human figure in SL. She does not choose her style, letting it come organically from the materials she uses in real life, oil colors, acrylics, and watercolor. She tries to render those effects in her virtual artwork. Art is, for Jarla, the medium by which she gives life to its reality.

ECLIPSE November 2016 | Page 115

Page 116 | ECLIPSE November 2016

From the artist’s words you understand that working with these pictures is for her opportunity for recreation, time cut out for herself among the different commitments of the day. It is a precious time to devote to herself and to share with others at the exhibitions. Jarla not promote her work very much. She’s not interested in marketing. She is dedicated to the art and occasionally has a show. In the interview she criticizes those who take themselves too seriously, not for taking the work too seriously, but for the arrogance of taking themselves too serious, who do not challenge themselves. especially in a virtual context where it is rare that the work or activity that takes place in real life coincides with that of Second Life. I really appreciate (and a little envy) the ability of this artist to go where the soul leads at the moment, this means letting herself free to express herself, without a target, a predetermined result. Even her exhibition opportunities are born by chance, without a specific timetable. This is experiencing art and Second Life in a very relaxed and pleasant way that allows you to see beyond the visible, beyond the ordinary level of attention (or should we say “distraction”). I advise to those who have the pleasure of visiting this enchanting exhibition, to take her artistic book: is also full of images of previous works and is organized chronologically. This way you can also learn more about the artist’s stylistic evolution and appreciate it fully. Jarla Capalini’s exposition will be open until 27th, November. ECLIPSE November 2016 | Page 117

If you have been keeping an eye on the Second Life® fashion world, you may have noticed the growing selection of Toddleedoo™ mesh avatar clothing and accessories now available. As a Toddleedoo myself for almost five years now, I am sometimes amazed at how far our fashions have come over the years. Being a Toddleedoo is awesome and the sky’s the limit now in 2016 when it comes to fashions and accessories to show off your personal style or roleplay without the hassle of “aging up” to do so. For a long time, we kids were overlooked in the fashion world of Second Life. Penumbra Fashion Experience has been doing an excellent job of showing off some of the best fashions on the grid. Recently Penumbra Fashion Experience hosted Toddleedoo Fashion Week, which consisted of seven fashion shows featuring outfits from eight Toddleedoo designers with each show having from eight to sixteen outfits. It was truly a must see and a lot of top names in the Second Life fashion community came out to watch the show. They had a chance to see for themselves just how serious we kids are are about fashion in Second Life. I had the pleasure of interviewing Penumbra CEO’s, designers, and new models about the whole experience. I was moved and inspired by the level of professionalism and dedication shown by the Penumbra Youth Division managers: Stasha (Stasha Benelli), Kiley (Pennywised Resident) & Jourdy (JourdainRose). During our interview, Stasha was very forthcoming about all the preparations needed for the show to go on. “It all starts with contacting designers, making a timeline and the most challenging part of all: Making sure the models are ready to walk the runway by making sure the new models have all the basics down before the rehearsals.” Page 148 | ECLIPSE November 2016

All of the preparation was worth it as the models put on a fabulous show, making this event the highlight of TD fashion this season. When asked if Penumbra Toddleedoo Fashion Week affected her personally, Kiley said, “It opened my eyes to how many talented and gifted designers we have here in SL. From TD sizes to adult sizes. I love it.” It was an amazing event for all and everyone is eager to have another chance to see so much raw talent and positive energy on the runway. This year Penumbra welcomed two new models: Yadielle (Master Qendra) & Rayna (Rayna Summerwind). Even though it was their first Penumbra fashion show, they rocked the runway with just as much style and confidence as the pros thanks to training from Penumbra Youth Division management. When interviewing Toddleedoo boy model Yadielle about his thoughts on being involved in the fashion show, he put it best when he said; “Once upon a time, It was like

Page 150 | ECLIPSE November 2016

we as kids were in a box and were very limited when it came to fashion, now it’s like we can do anything. Being in this event was a true blessing for me”. Rayna expressed similar feelings when she said, “All the people involved were awesome to work with and it was just a fabulous experience all around. I learned a ton and also laughed a ton the whole time.” Being a blogger for the event was an awesome experience for me as there were so many wonderful and creative designers who were very friendly and easy to work with. Among the designers I had the pleasure of blogging for were Archer (8isGreatDontBLate Resident) of Bo Willow and Samantha (SamanthaFaye Resident) of Baby Burp. Both designers are very unique, offering everything from classic cute to fun themed costumes that were featured the Penumbra Toddleedoo Fall Fashion Week and wowed many with the style, range, and level of creativity shown in their clothing designs.

Toddleedoo designs in general have came a long way. Gone are the days when we had to struggle to find an outfit then edit the outfit’s prim items like shirt collars, pant legs, and sleeves to make them look like a decent outfit. It was hard to come up with a unique style as there were not many designers focused on making Toddleedoo clothing and accessories. Now as a Toddleedoo, fashion can finally be used as a form of expression. we have so many options in styles of clothing it is amazing. Mesh has been a blessing to Second Life in general and a breath of fresh air for toddleedoo designers especially. Archer said “I think just having so many new designers and new mesh creators has forced everyone to step up their game and to really go for it! So it has come a long way from flexi and basic prints.” As you look on the Second Life Marketplace™ you notice more top adult brands have become more size conscious as they see more Toddleedoos purchasing their accessories. They are now offering a smaller size or taking care to put resizers in their items. We have finally been accepted as valid customers. It is great to know that adult designers have listened to our requests so now we can get everything from hats to hairbows and beyond to complete whatever look we are going for that day. The future of Toddleedoo fashion is bright with the coming of Second Life Bento skeleton which has extra bones and will provide more of creative design options for us Toddleedoos. The most exciting is that avatars will have the option to have mesh heads that can be customized with shape sliders. Mesh is a mixed blessing when it comes to mesh heads because, while they enhance your avatar appearance, they took away the ability to have a unique face as you will have the same face as the other thousands of avatars who purchased it. The creator of the Toddleedoo mesh avatar released their Bento head this week to public beta for us kids to try out. An astounding number of kids came in on the first day to get theirs so they can once again be individuals. Beyond customizable mesh heads, Bento offers fluid hand/finger movement and most Second Life Residents big and small are eager to see what new items are on the horizon. While we are pleased by the progress inToddleedoo fashion, there are many things we kids would love to see more in the future. We need more unrigged hair and hair rigged for kids, such as the longer ponytails and braids as we can never have enough hair options. We want more animated mesh heads as we love variety and not everyone is comfortable making their own shape. I personally would love to see more tasteful matching parent and child outfits in a wider variety of style options from costumes to formalwear. ECLIPSE November 2016 | Page 153

When asked what item she would love to see in the future in the world Toddleedoo fashion, Kiley explored a different option for meshes when she stated, “Maybe adult’s and TD’s getting together to create something together that both TD’s and adults can wear. But so many things have changed, I can’t wait to see what is in the near future and the designers keep up coming up with so many great ideas. Collaborative groups keep forming and wowing the TD industry. I hope to see more of this.” She brings up a good point because the only way that the fashion industry can improve is for mesh creators and designers to collaborate and make it grow.

Page 154 | ECLIPSE November 2016

Let us hope one day in the near future someone will explore universal rigging and animation for kid hair, but that is wishful thinking from this tiny hair addict. For now all we can do is watch, wait, and see as every day we have new options appearing and hope for much more to come. The Penumbra Fashion experience and the events like it show us that there are a lot of passionate creators and designers willing to step up to a challenge, so we may not be waiting on better options for long.

Voices from the g

Voices From the Grid is a monthly survey of opinions and ideas of Second LifeÂŽ residents on the salient issues of the day. For this month, we asked various people in Second Life if they could master one skill they do not have right now, what would it be. This is what they had to say.

Chic Aeon Chic Aeon Artist, teacher, machinimatographer and content creator, Chic Aeon has worn her share of virtual chapeaus and enjoyed each one. Her nearly nine year history in Second Life includes a few art awards for film and 3D installations and some scattered kudos in other realms. In early years she was best known as a blogger, out each day watching for a “C” on lucky chairs, saying hi to fans along the way, sharing tips and landmarks. Machinima became her second love leading to the creation of the Machinima Open Studio Project which was supported by the Linden Endowment for the Arts for three years. With a constant need to create, retail has been a permanent theme in her storyline with shops featuring everything from jewelry to clothing -- poses to prefabs. Currently ChiC buildings specializes in original mesh Home and Garden items including houses. I can answer the question in one word: “Rigging”. That doesn’t really explain much -- unless of course the reader is a 3D modeler. Rigging is the part of clothing creation that let’s garments move with you -- or not as the case may be. Fashionistas of either sex will relate immediately. When you put on a new outfit and don’t have to worry about alpha layers or slots? THAT is good rigging! I have spent the last four years studying mesh creation for use in virtual worlds. This last year and a half has focused on using Blender Cycles to make textures within the program, then using carefully crafted lighting setups to bake subtle ambient shadows that give a three dimensional look. Learning all this has been difficult, but I am now at a place where I look forward to starting on my next modeling adventure; it is finally FUN not work. Rigging and weight painting? All attempts have failed. I don’t particularly want to make clothes; a huge number of very talented clothing creators happily fill my closet. I would simply like to have that “ah ha” moment; you know the one -- when the pieces finally come together and you can see that it really wasn’t that difficult at all. Of course it WAS most assuredly a monumental effort, but looking back we happily forget a lot of the frustration and angst. I just want to know that I can do it; then I will be able go on to discover and perfect another skill. Photograph by Chic Aeon. ECLIPSE November 2016 | Page 163

Mareea Farrasco Mareea Farrasco: “The pictures I create are small steps into the indefinite journey to myself. Join me and, who knows, you might find yourself” says Mareea Farrasco, defining her art. Mareea is a SL artist whose diverse projects take the form of digital reflection and pure emotion. Her photography covers a large field: from portraits to landscapes, from concrete to metaphoric images, from simple forms and shapes to narrative scenes. She is the owner of IMAGO Art Gallery - an art & culture area, displaying highly talented artists and organizing art and fashion events. I am constantly amazed by the people’s creativity in SL. Myself, I discovered my so-called photography skills here as well. I started from nothing and I learned a lot about photography, lights, angles, colors, and photo editing in the last three years. So if I could do this, I believe one can learn almost everything and improve their skills with good will and perseverance. Looking around, exploring SL in everything it has to offer, I wish I could express myself in more than one artistic way - from machinima to fashion design or even to more complex buildings, such as sim design or architecture. Learning to use 3D graphics technology would be necessary for achieving such performances. Not to mention some talent and aesthetic experience. For now this is just a dream. I am afraid that accomplishing it takes a lot of time and my RL is quite demanding. But who knows, maybe one day... with good will and perseverance... Check out her Flickr. Cheyanne Luik Cheyanne Luik joined Second Life in 2008 not knowing this would kick start her passion for photography and creativity. Her creative side took the front seat for a while as she build a tiny accessory store called .K-Otic. She was determined to aim to the “little people” within SL. Making each “barbie” affordable. After a while the pictures she was taking for .K-Otic. were not feeding the flame fueled passion of photography within her. So she started a fashion blog called “Cheys Pocket Sized Pixels”. A look into the fashions of second life. This is where her passion becomes alive. Striving to make each picture better than the last one. Slowly teaching herself step by step the confusing world of photoshop. Her individual style is not like everyone’s. She loves being her own individual. And it shows in her styles. She struggled with the flickr game that has become ever so popular to play. And was determined not to join in the competition. Each picture she puts out is a work of her...and each like and view she receives she is very grateful for. Recently her struggles have paid off and is now growing. This pushes Cheyanne to push a little harder. For her passion has just kicked into overdrive. If I could master one skill that I don’t have it would be to be able to communicate better...I am often found alone on a platform in the sky somewhere. Many people have tired to push me out of my zone and get me to “communicate” or be social with them, but the walls that I have created are thick. Second Life is a place of communication.. and I am very much aware of my lack of a skill to communicate with people. Check out her Store. Check out her Flickr. Check out her Blog. Magic Maker Magic Marker (squarepegroundhole69) is a devoted Second Life shopper and photographer whose interests are as vast as her inventory. I’m not entirely sure I have any skills mastered a’tall. Wait...not true. I’m an exceptional booster of the SL economy. I am the master of my inventory, while all the goodies inside are the master of me. I have several designers I cherish for their brillant works. Azoury. Pixicat. Del May Poses. Zibska. These people inspire me to tap more into my imagination and creativity. I gravitate again and again to the beautifully peaceful sim Furillen, by Serene Footman, a place where I’ve met many wonderful people I proudly call friend. Many folks ask me about my name...I’m a Magic Marker. It is not one I gave myself. A close friend bequeathed it to me. As for squarepegroundhole69 (resident moniker), that is a title I’ve always felt suited me throughout my life. Second Life has become a place for me where I do not feel so all alone. I’m a little more rounded on the edges here. It is also a place that I found something of a keen interest in photography. So much so that I was asked to show some pieces in a RL exhibit. I find at times the telling of stories through images to be cathartic. Second life is a place to let your imagination soar. As a child, I would escape into books...adventures of Alice in Wonderland and the influential women in the Mists of Avalon. I have fun in dressing up my “doll”. I love masks, the more fantastical, the better. I love collaborating with other artists, the synchronicity of ideas. Its very exciting to me. I have been contemplating possibly maybe wanting to blog. I already take the pictures. Why not say a few snippets of intel about what I’m wearing....mhmmm....yes, maybe this is what I can master in Second Life. I was asked to submit a photo of my own, if I wished, but I’ve chosen instead to ask a friend, who’s work I admire greatly. ....fitfanatic! I would like to use this platform to thank everyone who supports me, artistically and emotionally. And also to thank Eclipse magazine for asking me to participate here. I am excited to see where my (Second) life will lead. Namaste. Check out her Flickr. Page 170 | ECLIPSE November 2016

Hikaru Enimo Hikaru Enimo began his journey in Second Life on 3rd October 2010. His interest in fashion and styling soon lead to him modelling runway and print. The popularity of his blog HIKARU ENIMO brought him opportunities and soon he embarked on taking on the helm of a publication, L’Homme Magazine SL and since then for two years now he is the Editor-in-Chief. Hikaru Enimo’s portfolio also includes Costa Rica SL Hottest Bachelor (August 2011), CRSP Top Model of the year (2011), and MR. VIRTUAL WORLD 2012 ♛ NORWAY. He is a Model, Photographer, Stylist, Blogger, Brand Manager, and Blogger Manager, for several well-known brands like ::GABRIEL::, GizzA and Nikotin. And not forgetting Party Maestro, many who has attended and witnessed the extreme crowd impact on the venue of a Hikaru Enimo party, would agree to bestow him that title. Speaking of titles, the Avi Awards winner of the 2015 Favorite Male Fashion Model is once again nominated this year and for several categories! The on-going voting process of this year’s Avi Awards, L’Homme Magazine has been nominated for Favorite Magazine, Newspaper or Periodical (vote here), and Hikaru Enimo, the Editor-in-Chief is nominated for six categories (vote here and here)! If I could master one skill I don’t have, it would still be associated with my passion for photography and fashion. I would love to create a fashion line of my own one day. Making high fashion mesh clothing, accessories and hair to my taste in style. Most definitely there will be a touch of avant garde mixed into my designs. I do have the programs, Blender and Maya. I have so many fashion design ideas that pop into my mind constantly as I do my work, be it when I am styling, or taking a picture.. All the time, I would have an image in mind, and know there would be an item that fit in so well and make it work, but yet to be found inworld. To master the skill to make high quality mesh takes hours of researching, reading and practice. It will be a long process to master mesh creation, a refreshing new project of learning to look forward to. It would also mean changes and sacrifices are necessary weighing against the work that I am involved with currently. To do both would be a feat, as every minute, my full focus would be required for both. And I am a perfectionist, haha.. no slip shoddiness allowed. I do what I love and love what I do, and I will give a hundred percent and more into any project that I undertake and commit to. It is pure hard work and dedication over many years that got me to what I have now. It is an ongoing learning process, and I do appreciate the success in L’Homme Magazine SL and the recognition in the fashion world of Second Life. My mantra is to maintain a no holds barred attitude when my input is in request. No sugar-coating. I will, tell you what you can do to improve if you are on my project team, and make sure the task at hand will be delivered at its best. And hence, I am even more demanding on myself. To add building and mesh creation to my skillset, I want to do it well. I will chase this new dream one day. Check out his Blog. Check out his Flickr. Check out his Facebook.
